Hey guys, any tips for doing u-turns?

Ask coarse...

the best gear to do a u-turn is 2nd gear.

you can try half-clutch in second gear first if you're not so confident.

actually it's somewhat same as the starting part of crank course.

practise more and you'll get the hang of it.

good luck.

In my eyes, you are the one.

In your eyes, im none.

pardon me, are u an instructor?

cos u sound like one

but having said that, i would definitely like to hear ur long winded story about riding

upz

Yes i am.

I appreciate the listening ear. Post any questions and i'll do my best to give u the answer from the best of my knowledge and experiences.

Hmm.. Corse if changed bike liao dun wana work @ SSDC liao huh.. going other places to be instructor ah? :p btw, does SSDC hv refresher course for bike anot ah? forgot all about it liao~ :sian:

To me, i wanna earn more, SSDC pay is too little for my interests. Have to changed job 1st, then can get change bike.

defensive riding course i suppose, serve the same purpose

You can choose for a defensive riding course.

Or if u're riding is bad to the extend that u cant change to 2nd gear, u can sign up as a student and start from scratch. But only until lesson 5.

Some prefer 1st, some will prefer 2nd.

Try not to use half clutch on 2nd gear. In fact when i'm on 1st gear, i dont use half clutch (this is after many correct practices).

If u're stationary and abt 1 car length from the U-turn junction, use 1st gear.

When u're moving off, dont realease the rear brake completely, try to use it slighty when u're moving off.

Make sure u maintain the accelaration and the clutch control. Get the right speed when u're moving becuz it should be the same speed for ur u-turn. if u're moving off is toooo fast then u will close throttle during the u-turn which will make the bike wobble. Unless u can close and able to open the throttle gently. If u find urself getting a little faster during the u-turn, tap the rear brake gently and hold it there, along with ur throttle still on(or better still if u know how to close throttle by a degree or so without closing completely), till ur bike nearly completes the u-turn.

Relax ur posture, holding the handle bar to firmly makes u open the throttle to hard and make the bike harder to turn as well, grip the fuel tank(but not too hard) to put more body wieght on the fuel tank,(centre of gravity) and not on ur arms and handle bars. lean ur weight slighty to the right if necesary. Eye point should be looking the lane u wanna be in.

2ng gear... Is when u have abt 2 cars lengths away from the u-turn.

when u have changed to 2nd gear, make sure u accelarate enough speed to enter the u-turn with deccelaration. That mean, accelarate, close throttle when u r turning, open throttle when u're abt slightly more that half way thru ur u-turn. rear brakes can be use if necessary.

After riding for 3 years, before working at SSDC i thought at was skillful in my riding. But only as an instrtuctor, i really start to understand how to ride a bike confidently with better skill. (I think some of u guys might know i went for advance riding/driving training in Japan). If can, i'd love to teach u guys how to do a u turn with 1 hand and not to be afraid of u-turn's anymore.

Ride Safe.

sorry to say that corse but me and my girlfriends really dislike ssdc instructors. they seem to be more in favour of pretty ladies. I even saw some asking for girls numbers...doesn't look professional at all lor. some are real nice but the few buayas really spoil ssdc instructor's image...

I don't disagree with u.

Of course not all instructors are buayas.

Let me share with u on my part. I try to be nice to every student i take for lesson. If A student seems too unfriendly and doesn't show an interest to learn but only think abt passing the lesson, i myself will find it difficult to coach. If a student is friendly, shows keen interest to learn, i can and try to go the 'extra mile'. If students are friendly, instructors will be friendly too. I've seen students too friendly with us and some of us dont like it becuz sometimes the respect is gone for us. There's so many different pple around and i can take the whole day to explain to u different stories.

Customer Service... Our management is particular abt customer service.

Back in the 90's SSDC instuctors can say things like, "my grandmother can ride better than u."

But now cannot, with better customer service, hopefully students enjoy our coaching and will spread the word to others to learn at SSDC.

Getting numbers from students or vice-versa may seem unprofessional to a certain minority/majority. But did u know that many Class 3 students do that in order to fix their instructors and to know when they are working?

So some 2B students need personal help from certain instructors they feel comfortable with.

Maybe u or ur friend might had some bad experience with some instructors who are/were interested in ur or ur frens. But to some students, they might find it ok becuz its just making frens only. If things happen to go any further, then its both their personal issue.

Maybe those instructors they get numbers from students are old time frens and lost in contact?

I'm 1 of them, i've seen some friends(students) i've not seen for years and we exchange numbers.

I guess its normal to always complaint abt the bad stuff. But we hardly talk abt the good stuff.

I hope pple wont think that exchanging numbers is wrong. There are instructors whose wives are ex students from SSDC.

When i 1st join SSDC, i had lunch with the Managing Director, and we had conversation abt the life at SSDC. He mention about some instructors have wives who were their students, and he said, ''maybe 1 day, u might also meet ur future wife from School".

Getting to know pple around u has very good advantages(pple in working life should know y). That's another story.

Erm...the particular instructor I was talking about asked for her number, not the other way round and he knew that she worked in a pub and said something like will go find her..ask her got boyfriend or not...

Sorry to make you guys sound so unprofessional. There are some instructor that I like though. I had difficulty doing my ebrake and they were very patient with me. Can you believe I did my lesson 3 about 4 times before I managed to get my ebraking technique right?

But then again...I've not gone for lessons for 5 months already. Will be doing circuit some time this week before doing lesson 5. Good luck to me!
