Hello seniors,

Anyone of you wear any of the brands for riding?

How do you view them? Especially safety wise..

Dainese

RS Taichi

Komine

I know like Dainese is much more expensive but i was comparing a good dainese jacket and a good komine, it seems that komine has alot of hard armor like chest and neck support brace while the dainese uses some leather and have composite armor on the shoulders, which i may add, the komine also has.

Though i am not to sure is the composite component the same.

Any can advise?

I will chooise the one with the adequate protection with the smallest price tag. Frankly speaking if 2 jacket "K" and "D" have the same amount of protection, I doubt a higher price tag will help in making it more safe.

it's like buying a Japanese car vs a continental car..

both will protect you to a certain extent, just depends on whether the cut/styling fits you and your wallet.

Stock is good...Choose your weapon wisely and enjoy it...you can have all the $$$$ to mod and in the end you can't make full use of it....

in my personal experience, the jap brands tend to fit the standard small asian frame better & the ang moh brands tend to be a loose fit for skinny riders. they're all made in china anyway, so i'd advise on choosing based on budget. if saving up for more expensive gear means riding w/o any for 1 mth, i'd say get what you can afford now, then continue saving for what you want.

Another point to note besides the armour protection, is the material of the jacket, whether they are high abrasion resistance or not. For example, some jackets are 200D poly cordura while some are 600D (eg. alpinestar). If I am not wrong, I think the both Komine and Dainese are 200D... but don't quote me. :)

Hi Forge, I agreed with most of the advice given. Just to share my experience. I've tried quite a number of riding gears before, Taichi, Komine, Dainese, etc. Most work the same concept to protect you from injury during a fall. Taichi and Komine seems to have good protection and waterproofing material. Dainese surprising do not seems to match their quality for some reason.

Couple of years back I bought a Brand new Dainese Waterproof riding pants. I wore it for the first time in a very light and short shower already water started sipping from the groin area. I brought it back to JR (to cut the story short), they refused to honor their warranty they keep claiming nothing wrong but I wear it every time water keep sipping from the same area. Therefore, I tell myself never to go back

to JR again. I'm paying so much more just to get a quality not even matching the japanese brand and their service sucks.

1991 - 1992 = Yamaha RD125LC YPVS

1992 - 1993 = Suzuki GSXR 400 K

1993 - 1994 = Yamaha Vmax1200

1994 - 1995 = Honda Magna 750

1997 - 2002 = Honda ST11 Pan European

2002 - 2010 = BMW R1150GS

2010 - ------ = BMW R1200GS

Hi riders!

Thank you so much for all your input..yes Dainese really is one very expensive brand. Personally i have decided that i am going to go for komine, will go to try them out and get a good protective gear. Thanks for the advice on the resistance material too..will definitely take it into account when i get it.

Appreciate all your advise and willingness to share!

Btw, just got back from japan..oh man, i think its a great place to ride. Lots of cool riders there too...
