Hi guys, first i would like to introduce myself.

I recently just really get into bikes suddenly, dont know why (maybe because of my friends having bike transport etc.)

I am still studying thou, and still pursuing into getting 2b..

Now i have a question to all of you out there, does your parents nag at you or scream at you when you wanna take a bike license? Yea mine does..

Reason why i want to ask you guys is because i want to see what you actually "argue" back. In a proper way. No violence.

This conversation happen to me between me and my father. (no i not those kind of boys that fist fight with parents lol)

Me: i want go get bike license.

Father: (give angry face in 0.01seconds) WHAT? I SAY NO BEFORE ALREADY RIGHT, YOU ASK ALL YOUR AUNTIE AND UNCLE SEE OF ALL OF THEM GO AGAINST IT.

Me: It is cheap and really very good transport for me

Father: (when long lecture comes. i still remember.) DO YOU KNOW HOW DANGEROUS RIDING A BIKE? CAR BANG YOU NOW YOU BANG CAR, YOU KNOW WHAT IS THE MEANING OF SWAY OR NOT? SEE THOSE OTHER BIKE UNDER THOSE HUGE TRUCKS? THE BIKE DONT PROTECT YOU. AND YOU BETTER LISTEN, YOU ARE ONLY MY F*CKING SON, YOU DONT KNOW HOW I FEEL.

Me: (diam diam lor lose liao)

Now current situation is.. I did not mention that i will ownself pay in the future. I already enroll myself at CDC already, working part time also.. maybe my father was thinking that i would want him to pay for me a bike and license.

Tell me how should i tell my parents when i got my 2b license or when i want to buy a bike. And i will tell you how i always got argued back..

P.S: Tell me your experience against your parents, when first time you got your bike!

Edit: 25 Oct, Enrolled and finish 1 - 4 theory lesson. 24 Nov RTT. Parents caught my CDC student card and force me to throw away and i refuse.. saying that i am stepping over this head..

Edit 2: Started Prac 1, (4 Dec 2011), finished Prac 8, (11 Jan 2012) waiting for DRT (21 Jan 2012), earliest TP(28 March 2012), going to lay up Kawasaki.. and saving up insurance..

I got my license and bike, then told them. Of course all hell broke lose.

There was no room for discussions. Therefore the drastic action.

18 years later, they are still nagging. So there.

I came from a family, 3 generations up, left, right, no one rides a bike, so when I showed up home with a bike one day, that freaked out many.....and even now

But then, I was already 21, so it was like beyond parental control :p. The nags will never stopped but having said that ulysses_sc deserved to be nagged since he compounded his problem by owning not 1, not 2, not 3 but 4-5 bikes :clapping::clapping:

Anyway, try to conduct yourself in a responsible way to earn their trust but the nagging will not stop.

The type of bikers you mix with is very important in earning their trust.

You need biking friends like ulysses_sc because he is hamsom, clean cut, no visible tatoo, speak Engrish eloquently, gainfully emloyed, can hold an intelligent conversation anything from ozone layer to how to save Greece from bankruptcy. Never mind that deep down inside he could be a hard-core porn addict with pierced nipples.....etc......just kidding....... So family members see you keeping with such quality company, will feel relief but the nagging will no stop.

There are two golden rules when in confrontation with parents

Rule No. 1 - Parents are always right

Rule No. 2 - When Parents are wrong, refer to Rule No.1 :lol::lol::lol:

Never talk to me for 2 weeks. Threaten this and that blah blah blah.

It will be a good idea to bring Demon home to meet your parents. You will be hardpressed to find a more decent looking dude who owns landed properties, fast cars and trick custom bikes. Many young bikers aspire to be like him (and his gang of mis-named misfits).

Parents nagging will not stop, even when you have kids and settled down. It helps heaps to demonstrate responsible behaviour and not being rebellious just because it's the in thing to do.

I took bike licence in the army, paid for it myself, passed myself, bought a scooter myself, 15 years later got married, still riding and my parents still don't have a clue..... ;p

I'm assuming you are still a teenager, 20 odd or so. Let's do it the peaceful way.

I also assumed your parents afford a car, so enrol in a driving license to appease them first. Ask them to pay for the fees, trust me, high chance they are willing to pay for you.

Their current mentality might be that you prefer riding bcos you never drive before. So be it, go learn driving first.

While learning to drive, go for riding lessons at your own fees. Riding is your own business now, never borrow money from your parents to learn riding since they already opposed to it.

You can just say you want to experience both worlds and make your decision later, rather than regret later. Never ever in front of them insist that you die die must ride after getting the license. Say you will decide later.

After getting both license, try driving first, then complain here complain there. Eventually, suggest to "try" riding instead.

thanks for tips.. im 19 this year. Theres also problem me getting fees from my parents to get class 3. Yes i did asked money to go and get class 3 but his reply was.. "YOU ONLY GO FOR THEORY CLASS THATS ALL." from then on, i stop thinking of driving. but you mention.. never borrow money to get 2b. I have done that.

But you also said. "Never ever in front of them insist that you die die must ride after getting the license. Say you will decide later." when i get license.. how to burst the news. or when i actually get license + buy a bike then say.. thats the stress part..

because being young ,father scared wait son scratch , knock or accident with his car,

then poor father need to fork out more money , pay for damage and the other party damage..

then cannot drive to work

then how ???

but to TS question

well , if u have been to wakes of your riding friends....

take a good look at the parents..

I would still suggest TS to go learn riding first. Take it as learning a new sport. Try putting it that you want to start young rather then wait old old then go learn.

But after getting the license it's another story. Having the license doesn't make you 100% must have a bike. You must be very clear of this.

Another path you can try is climb up the 2B -> 2 ladder first during these few years.

Frankly speaking, I would suggest you to wait 2 more years before owning a bike. Your age factor is going to burn a big hole by your insurance. By then, your parents should also know that you are mature enough to make your own decision.

You have to be very frank to yourself and ask yourself next time - do I really need a bike now?

Heh, just what I did! "Learn only lah, better to gain a skill than do nothing at home." After finish go see bike, and buy le. Lucky thing is my father told me he rode a bike in his younger days as transport when e couldn't afford a car. Good luck to you too, but for me, without my parents consent and blessings I wouldn't ride at all. Respect your parents decision. They worry for you, even my mother still worry now when I go out to ride... Especially when its dark outside. So yeah... just my 2cents. Btw, I love the Mark X!

and I like this part. Agree that insurance is a killer. Now with the COE situation, even worse. To be honest, I still take public transport and squeeze with people in MRT sometimes, and most of the time when I go out with my friends and there are too many of us to squeeze into a car or pillion on a bike.

Told my dad that i want to learn bike.

My dad threaten to burn my bike if i ever get a bike.

My dad told me that he is willing to pay for my class 3 if i learn it.

I enrolled the bike lessons, Paid everything myself.

But now when i want to learn class 3, I think i have to pay for myself

To ride on the road, You need skills,Stamina, or even luck.

But to be a good rider, you have to change with your environment, and adjust yourself to its rhythm.

Cultivate the confidence to face the different situations. Don't let yourself to be subdued by the environment :thumb:

Wah. After reading all of this ah, i come to realise i am kinda lucky.

My parents like bo chup like that. Dad say cannot. Mum said cannot. I went with it anyway. But i took my class 3 at the same time. So i told them everytime i took motor licence. They of course dont want to believe me. Being the middle of a family with many kids, parents tend to give less attention to you. But i didnt mind anyway. Less attention = less problems for you.

Cut the long story short, TP test i told my mum, she wished me luck. On the day before my class 3 TP, my 2B licence came to my house. My dad thought it was my class 3. Haha. Then he saw. He also like bo chup. Then i took my TP for class 3. Paste the sticker behind my licence, show my parents haha. Both also okay la, good la, bo chup.

Then i buy motor. My mum say okay ah. Ask for loan from her. Don't want. As usual, my parents thought i got no money pay for motor. Then when i bought my motor, i told my mum. Then when come back, my dad saw my motor, he give me angry face. But few hours later, he okay liao. 2 weeks later, he ask me to send him here and there haha.

So my advice is not to psycho your parents, but to reason out with them. Lucky i can talk to my parents like my friends like that. So understanding my parents one. :)
