yes

it is very capable of hurting yr engine parts especially the piston

do it more and be prepared to spend $$ to change piston

tink basically a larger amt of fuel is deposited into the cylinder when u twisted the throttle but it doesnt get combusted completely due to engine being subsequently cut off. when u restart the engine, this previously uncombusted fuel suddenly gets ignited and an abnormal explosion happens in the cylinder causng the pop sound

:btw: why do u wan to backfire at other vehicles on the road? i'm concerned abt the disturbance caused to other innocent parties who happen to be ard u as well

Haha... Alex, almost anything that is not intended to be done on the motorcycle is harmful/detrimental to the bike.

dOn^ is correct. The uncombusted fuel is being pushed out into the exhaust valves and remains on the exhaust pipe until air is being sucked in again and combusted by the next available ignition. It's capable of damaging your engine parts but I don't think it's the pistons though, most likely it's the exhaust valves and your exhaust seal gaskets.

Backfires not only forces combustion/explosion out into the direction of the exhaust pipe, but the combustion also blasts the pressure back into the engine. So on the next round of available ignition, the back blast will ram pressure back into your exhaust valves, and also causing back-pressure on both the exposed combustion chamber and valve wall. Just analyse how the engine works and you will draw the image of what are the potential engine damages.

backfire is shiok. hear the sound, see the fire, can clear carbon.

No more regrets.

Doing this is no-brainer and anyone can do it. The problem is that in a public place the noise generated gives bikers a bad name. The response u get from the general public is not admiration but something much less flattering. Save this infantile addiction for a closed environment such as the track.

cheers.

Dude, Harleys backfire because their air/fuel mixture is lean (most probably). The bike will backfire if they close throttle from mid or wide open. The only way to solve this is by jetting the bike correctly.

Backfire can also occur if the jetting is too rich (actually this is known as after fire), or have leaky exhaust gaskets.

This is very different from folks who purposely use the ignition cut-off switch to induce a backfire. These riders are more of a public nuisance.

You will seriously damage your engine. Don't turn off the key. You might even crash. :giddy:

I have no clue why people want to backfire. It is a serious nuisance. If my bike backfires, I bring it to my mechanic to fix the tuning so that it doesn't do it!

IMHO, use your bike as it is meant for. Enjoy your ride, enjoy the sights. Try funny things on it and you may regret. Sounds like common sense? It is. Just my $0.02 worth..
