Some sports bike riders like to do this esp on expressways. I got it once too on my drz. Got balls to go in straight line, but when i challenge him in the corners suddenly they disappear.

I squeezed in between lane 1and 2 before in the rain. In front was a Class 2 sportsbike. He was fast at first but soon was moving at a snail's pace. There was space at times for me to overtake him but he quickly swerved abit to closr up the gap. From then on I never split lane with a Class 2 bike in the lead.

Don't like that. I don't challenge ppl as a habit. Haha. Only some people like to use their power and show off to smaller capacity bikes.

Sometime ago, a guy riding a scrambler with a female pillion was riding behind me, it was heavy traffic along cte n i was already lane splitting at a fast pace (not road hogging pace) but tis mangkuk was tailgating behind me.. Halfway he switch lane to e left n lane splitting but in e end change lane n still behind me n still tailgating !! In my heart was saying if im to brake, sure tis mangkuk gonna b in trouble n true enough whilst lanesplitting suddenly a car (mangkuk driver) juz close up e gap n ive got to brake to slow down n when i saw my mirror e guy had fell.. Stopped my bike at lane 2, switch on e hazard light n went to help e guy, after checking that he n e pillion r ok, i help to push e bike to e road shoulder after stopping all e vehicles... Then went back to my bike n continue my journey... The result of tailgating is very bad if ur not alert or for wateva reason dun tailgate, only asking for trouble.. Cant imagine if he's infront of me n that car juz swerve into his lane, think e damage wud b worse..

Precisely. Never tailgate. If you need to let it be of a safe braking distance. If you are riding in front and someone is behind you please move aside and let them pass no matter how big and powerful your bike is. Time to throw your ego away. You may think you are not road hogging but someone else would. Its subjective. Let the vehicle pass you even if it is of a much smaller displacement as compared to yours. Ride safe and at the same time with courtesy.

well said..

be it lane splitting or normal riding in lane.. if there's a vehicle behind you, lane change left and let it pass.. even if you are riding above speed limit..

the roads are for us to share..

i always try to find a spot to cut from lane 1.5 to lane 1 when i see another bike closing in fast on me.

and usually will give a wave to them to signal to overtake me. and always get a thank you wave in return.

no point pushing yourself to go faster than the bike behind while lanespliting when you are at your limit.

wat if its peak hours packed with cars, im going at a normal pace n some biker behind me close in fast. do i have to specially find a spot in between cars to squeeze so that the bugger behind me can overtake me?

i will just hog the damn bloody lane and make sure im safe..

riding fast closing in behind in 0.5 lane.. if ur not comfortable and find no way to squeeze in between cars. dun be pressurize to let ppl overtake and risk endangering urself.

sometimes its better to be a **** then smashed meat.

Only merge with the lane if the situation allows. No one is expecting u to endanger yrself by forcing yr way into the row of cars. I'm sure any real biker will understand that in heavy traffic, they can't expect ppl to anyhow siam for them.

But if they r asswipes who really tailgate u despite all logic, then by all means hog them.

Well said bro, dats wat i mean.. E situation was as such n im already go fast (dun flame me for saying im fast) which at a speed i can still react if some mangkuk driver/rider juz go bonkers n wanted to change lane.. Btw its not bout ego juz coz i ride big bike but safety.. So wat ur in a hurry, means ive to gv way n endanger my life by merging to another lane when there's gap ? If that rider feels that he's late to send e gf or for wateva reason he have then go out early coz he have to expect that cte is jam packed during morning peak hours..

Oh btw, i do gv way to other riders if situation permits :)

Btw even though i rode big bike, im not ego towards e small bike rider coz that's where i started from :) .. But seeing how some of them ride (be it big or small bikes) i juz shook my head in despair...

no offences, but sometimes small bikes on 1.5lane, dun even bother to check their mirrors when i am behind them for a long long while, happily cruising in their own world.

small bikes relatively have wider clearance compared to big bikes with side boxes. i see the gap in front, it's clear-able by my judgement, but the bike just brake and wait.. and the chain reaction behind follows, brake brake brake.. :sian:

Obviously you have the right of way. But TBH, if he hits you on the side, both of you will probably not survive being run over by the other cars.

I also encountered something like this yesterday on the PIE towards City around Eng Neo. I was following behind a Super 4 in a line of bikes on lane 1.5. A P-plater in the lead on a Phantom was crawling through traffic, so at the next given opportunity, both me and the S4 splitted to lane 2.5. I followed right behind him.

After clearing a couple of cars, and the line of bikes on 1.5, I decided to switch back from 2.5 to 1.5. For me, I checked clear and made the switch, then throttled up once I was in 1.5

Mr Super 4 decided to switch back a couple of cars ahead, but without really checking back for me.

Meh, whatever. I just throttled on and whooshed past him with about half a lane to spare. I was by then too fast and too near to brake anyway.

I would like to know what to do to avoid them scarring people suddenly.. i dont think every small bike meet this everday, i think fr every 1000mile i ride, i will encounter about 2 of this big bike. :/

I must agree with you on some of the bikes dun tend to check their mirrors regularly while on the expressway.. And also encounter those that check their mirrors but just be ignorant about the vehicle behind dat is going faster.. And i cant understand thise that fold their mirrors or worst without any.. Make bike more aerodynamic? Haaaaaaaaa! To anyone who is guilty of road hogging and reading this, GIVE WAY! GIVE WAY! Be considerate! For me, be it any vehicle which is going faster i will always give way. No such thing as big bike, small bike or my bike is bigger den urs or not so i will not give way.. That is pure selffish! Ptuiiii!

I've encountered numerous of such riders of my years of riding n their reason ? Easy to lane splitting so dun kena e side mirror of cars.. Well fair enuf if they dun road hogging.. One time a guy with his jack a** gf was lane splitting w/o both side mirrors n was literally hogging e road.. Pulled up beside him at e traffic light junction n tell him off in a "nice way".. Lolz ... Sorry to say tis but those riders riding without e side mirror r a total Tttuuuutttttt n a PIA !!! Those reasons bout not having/folded side mirrors r juz lame excuse... Its not coz of side mirrors but coz of poor judjement ...

The bigger the displacement the bigger the ego. Just look at the ego of those that drive big cars. They will not let you overtake them even when you are able to. Taxis should be honked at coz they always have the habit of sudden braking to alight or board passengers. Hazard light used by them is to change lane from lane 1 to lane 3 or to make a turn. Basically taxis have their own sets of made up rules.
