Heya,

I'm thinking of getting a bike for convenient's sake instead of taking the public transport.

One which is able to zip around the city, doesn't have a huge fuel consumption like a camel as well as easy/inexpensive to maintain. Nothing flashy or fancy of sorts for a 200cc bike.

So I was thinking a vespa would do justice to my needs.

Hope you guys can provide your comments and guidance to a newbie.....

Thanks!!

Hi all

I new to this forum and motorcycles. I wish to purchase a Vespa after getting my license. So I wish you guys can enlighten me and give some advice on which Vespa or scooter to get with consideration of the points below:

1) I have got zero knowledge on technical aspects of motorcycles.

2) Cost. My mum is paying but I do not wish to splurge on my first bike. Preferably less then 5k

3) A bike with low maintenance fee would be preferred

4) Last but not least, MUST LOOK COOL!

I'm thinking about a PX150. Please give some advice guys. Thanks in advance!

Personally, i would advice to grab a sprint. Slightly over 3k then slowly restore it to how you want it to be.

the PX has no storage space under the seat. it may not be practical if you don't like bringing your helmet around or are afraid of leaving your helmet clipped to the bike.

automatic vespas have some space under the seat. if you buy a lemon, be prepared to spend thousands and thousands repairing it.

the PX is ALOT of fun to ride, but comes with the hassle/joys of a 2 stroke engine... it's easy to maintain too - even a lemon is cheaper to repair than an auto vespa.

if you can find a px200 with disc brakes, i would recommend that.

if the bike you buy is NOT COOL, you can make it look cool after buying it.

Thanks for the replies guys.

@Sharpey I read the wiki before posting the thread.

@Hydher The wiki, states that Sprint might need lots of care, and I'm afraid I can't do that but I like the sprint look better than Px though.

@taxico Sorry but what is a lemon?

The PXs (150 or 200) are kool by themselves and pretty low cost motoring. However, in all honesty, they are not the safest.

If in doubt, you can pay a little for reputable mechanics to look the bike over before you buy. Consider Tong Aik.

bro..vespa LX model bike look small i recomment you gt200 bigger more powerful around 5k but hard to get cause its limited unit..

maybe u need to take working off go around sg bike shop to find..

Check out Piaggio for any deals available atm. They might be able to give you some recommendations.

5K is abit low even to get a 2 year old Vespa. Try comparing the newer ones and the older model.

Sadly nowadays scooter comes in 125 and jump to 250 or 300. 200 scooters are quite rare already.

If you are not familiar with bikes my advice is to just get a scooter and ride for awhile to get used to it first.

Most of us is love at first sight while some might have 2nd thoughts after riding a scooter.

Went to Piaggio SC already? Which part the fuel leak from? Did you check your fuel pipe?

if you are looking for the thrills of owning a scooter without the frills of breakdowns and high costs, a PX would be the most ideal. its retro in its own way, though i must say the sprints or supers are the ultimate in retro coolness. i've talked to some sprint owners who fit PX engines in their machines cos of its reliability. pros and cons to everything bro. something's gotta give.

Of course I trust my skills. I ride alone cos I don't trust the competency of the driver next to me.

Hi Ilzafron, the Vespa GT200 has gone obsolete. They have stopped production about 2 years ago.... however if you still wish to own one and manage to get a hire purchase of a 2nd hand. You'll be one of the few on the roads.... the displacement of the engine is exactly the same as the Gilera VXR200 with a promising mileage of 25/30km per litre of petrol. Consumption like a camel? Probably you might wanna go for the newer models of LX150 with fuel injection system... it consumes 36km per litre of petrol. Hope my descriptions are good enough for your reference... if not... you could go to Piaggio's official website or google about these 2 models... the LX150 and the GT200.

Warmest Regards,

Mark Yeow
