i was recommended by racewerks to get 12v35/35w. cos i told them my batt charge is always very low. prob is due to the HID bulbs. if i unplug just one, the charge will b higher. for stock blub, still ok compared to the HID. so was wondering if i can change to a lower wattage bulb to solve this prob.

Did you make a headlight switch? If you have HIDs, you have to have a headlight switch. Make sure that the HID is off before you turn the key or start the bike.

The ballast, when started, sucks up a lot of voltage and you don't want to strain your battery by feeding both the starter motor and ballast a lot of juice.

Turn on your HID only after your motor's running.

Actually LED has more lumens than an equivalent wattage halogen bulb.

The problem is light throw. For that you need a focusing lens.

The new Audi R8 has an all-LED headlight and it throws out light just fine because of the focusing lens.

Problem is where to get the focusing lens if you decide to do an all-LED headlight. :D

oya... forgets abt that even that day i was playing with some LED fog light assembly... hehehe...

Hi! Bro superspeed123,

I have not changed my spark plugs, milleage 13k already. if changing to Iridium, (changed to BMC & Akra slip on liao). Need to do throtte body syn? Can you advise where is recommended and cost incurred? Thanks.

Maybe for a start, de-cat and remove the thermostat so that your bike will run cooler and less hot. Throttle body syn is important too if u want your bike to have better throttle response and run smoother.

Best to change your spark plugs before u go for throttle body sync. Clean your air filter if needed too. If u dun do throttle body sync, your bike will run rough and throttle response will be a bit jerky.I did two times throttle body sync on my one year old bike. I did it at Bikeworkz for $30.

hi fz bros, really need your help and input here. for the second time in 2 months, my bike's batt gone flat again :(

initial running voltage this morning was 14.3v, but after work i rode home it was 11.1v and i sensed something amiss. by the time i got home it was 10.2v. after i parked, i tried to start the bike but it couldnt even crank.

wad could be the problem? i can only think of 2 possibilities:

1. Spy alarm draining the batt

2. Rectifier problem?

looking to seek advise from the more esteemed bros here.

Peace out :)

no idea lei... i tot u said racewerks recommended u 35w bulb?

ballast is part of your HID... all HIDs should have ballast... if yours no ballast, it could either means yours is not HID or u got it installed wrongly...

they recommend me to get a 35w bulb. they didn't sell this bulb i think. if i want that bulb, i need to source it myself.

haha... i blur liao. i'm so dumb when it comes to electric. grrrrr.......

How old is the bike and battery? Old batt drains fast and can't hold charge. Defective rectifier can't charge your batt effectively too. Check if there are any 'leak' in the electrical system. Alarm drain batt too, but a good (new batt) normal can tahan about coming to a week.

Check your rectifier and magnetic coil. Most likely culprits.

not possible for the alarm to drain so much from the battery if installed correctly.

as i would do to my bike, change the cheapest part and from there work up. replace battery first, it could be that the battery is too old and is not capable of holding a sufficient charge. if that doesnt help, next is to change the rectifier, charge up the battery that you just bought, and leave it alone again. if that still doesnt help, then be prepared to replace the magneto coil.

i assume that you got your reading from a digital volt meter?

before you do all this, i would advise you to ask the mech to check whether you may have grounding issues. though i doubt that is the problem, since you were able to crank the bike in the morning.

good luck.

bro, i thought for FZ1, the headlight will turn on only when the engine has started. when you turn on the ignition key, only the pole light lights up then when you crank it, then only the main headlight will light up, right? so there is no problem that the headlights is draining your battery off.

thanks for the advice bro.. i just hope its not the magneto coil coz it costs a bomb to replace right? i've onli just replaced my batt at the end of Jan '11 because the previous batt got drained too. my bike's an '07 model.

now when i try to crank the bike there's this weird buzzing sound coming from the tail section. will probably bring it to a bike shop to get it sorted...
