i personally am a newbie on track & IMHO all corners are important.

E.g. Before entry to turn 1, think of exit which will conclude how to turn & maintain in turn 1 as after turn 1 is a long stretch so got time to think. Before enter turn 2 think of entry turn 3 which will lead to exit turn 2 which will conclude how to enter turn 2 & goes on...

really need time, effort & finance before able to maintain race lines which i only started...

Details, details, details. Lotsa us needs em! :hungry:

Anyhoo, I most certainly agree. Understanding how to do track riding is like connecting the dots.

Going out and really doing it is worth a mention too -- having a good go at the corners yourself to find out whether your final position right before you execute the turn will give you a good curve around the corner, and especially whether when you come out of it that your bike position is already good for the next one.

Concentration is a factor to this as well. Sometimes I find myself fixating my focus too close and that makes me corner in an unstable manner.

Up till now find myself reluctant to give up my comfortable lines for a 'race line.' or any other line. More so if I was being made to change my throttling styles or cornering positioning when I enter the corner. Even a frequent trackgoer like me with some basics still have this problem due to uncertainties -- the what-if's when I begin trying something else. I agree, sometimes it's not good being narrow minded as this kinda closes doors to improvement. And when it comes to small races such as the 5-lap fun race, it becomes a problem, from what I've observed.

Comments welcome.

Of course, all corners are important. But there must be one or 2 corners which is of importance to u personally coz maybe u feel u need to improve on that particular section, or maybe wrong exit of that particular turn will affect the entry of the next turn which will result in a slower lap time.

Most important for me at PG is Turn 2 coz it's the first turn that I got my knees scrapped way back in 1995, which leads me to buying my first full suit. At that time, it's quite common for track goers to wear jeans and leather jackets.

2nd reason is that I crashed heavily in 1996 and not returning to track for a year.

So, Turn 2 will always be the most important corner for me.

20 years of riding:-

Bikes:

1986 - Yamaha RX100

1987 - Yamaha LC125

1988 - Yamaha LC350

1995 - Suzuki GSXR750

1997 - Kawasaki ZXR750K2 (race bike)

2002 - Yamaha FZR1000

2003 - Honda VFR800Fi

What's next?

Cars:

1996 - Nissan 100FA

1997 - Hyundai Elantra

IMHO..It should be how to steer the bike into corners.

If you can steer your bike well..any corner in the world u can tackle..

In theory I knew the 5 steering inputs..but putting it to use is a challenge..its about making it a habit even when u ride on the street..then on track its 2nd nature.

To answer the TS ques..according to a book I read, King Kenny said that the worst thing to do is to go fast on a very slow corner and risk low siding or worse high siding..So its important not to push too hard in the slow corners or risk losing everything!!
