nice ninja ..
thanks dude....

btw ninja's are always hot bikes....

haha

You know what, in fact, he took his bike to a place where it received a well deserved washdown after today's trackday and he himself and was gleaming ear to ear today. :D

Great read guys. So for a weekend rider and a once a month PG rider (intend to but not yet ... still virgin), Racetec is sufficient rite?

IMHO, I think that by buying Racetec for that kind of use, you probably aren't exploiting its intended purpose (ie) these tyres are made to provide traction for track environments and is good for track riders who want to push to their limits.

(P.S.) I may be wrong as I have gathered information from my track friend that uses Racetec slicks. He refused to take his bike out for normal riding BTW.

Correct me if I am...

funny how there isn't much rave abt the alpha 10s..

for the fellows who ride on the road 2... they have doubtless track grip.. are like superbly dual purpose.. likewise for the after-market qualifiers.. very good value for money.. But the 10s far outshine the qualifiers in profile.. no need to fight so hard to turn in and stay down.. guess thats y cost so much more..

Think its a viable option for some of us who also ride in sg roads..

Wen>> u can try racewerkz.. they got good dunlop prices.. and sometimes other brands too when they go crazy.. haha..

there u go.. hope they go mad again soon..

In my opinion the Pilot Road 2 is sufficient for track use. Correct technique is more important than sticky tyres. I've had Malaysian ZX14s ride circles around me at Sepang, using BT-020 Touring tyres while I was on softer, stickier BT-014s.

I'm doing 1:57 on Pirelli Diablo Rossos on my ZX14. It seems to offer slightly better grip and stability at maximum lean angles compared to the stock BT-014s, but nevertheless nowhere near the grip and confidence available on Diablo Corsas.

Buy the tyre which suits your overall needs, not one which suits your occasional trackday while it gets wasted most of the time off the track.

I was just thinking about it....sorry slightly off topic though.

If one does not go to the tracks... what is the point of putting on DOT race approved tyres like the dual compounds etc etc and just riding the bike on the roads only.

Even if one has money to throw....the tyres will never heat up on the roads to be performing at their optimum.

For those tyres to grip at an optimum... the pressures need to be lowered, and the bike ridden at higher than normal speeds to allow the tyres to flex and generate heat. Nobody rides on the streets with track pressures...especially those who have pillions.

What really scares me are those who do not lower the pressures, heat up the tyres first and yet can suddenly on impulse, when get challenged by some other rider, go and play corners on public roads. What gives them the confidence to do so is... they think they have the stickiest brand of tyres on and they feel invincible.

Track riding teaches one alot about tyres, pressures, heat and traction.... and maybe that is why I ride like a pussycat on the public roads coz I have experienced how things can go so wrong and so fast.

I dare say that most track junkies here in this forum would agree with my sentiments.

Ride safe everyone.

Agreed. But just take a look through the threads, and you will see many posts about how riders claim DOT race tires are so much better on the roads, say compared with street biased tires like BT014, M3, Pilot Powers, etc.

No matter how much expert opinions we read from various other sources, riders' mindsets and opinions seem very hard to change.

Using DOT race tires on the roads is something I can never understand. It's simply paying more for lower performance on the roads.

My personal solution is simply to have 2 sets of wheels, one set on track tires, and the other on road tires. Best of both worlds.

my stocks were dunlop alpha 10s,great tyres but not brilliant,i was setting n preparing my bike n also getting use to it n bring it to tuas once a week, mostly 10 laps rest n another 10 again.after 5 weeks, when i lean in,the front end threatens to tuck in gives me the feeling of a low side coming on n it wears out pretty fast, the side were already fading so no choice gotta change(wasted as the centre portion like brand new) im now on michelin pilot power, when first tried, the front felt strange, when lean in,the front lean in faster, but i ask around n it seems like its the characteristic of the tyre because of the design (it looks oval n sharp from the front).bros i know using it tell me its normal,im use to it now n its from wat i observe frm the pilot power, the wear out rate is more durable than the alphas, wam up faster so good for street use n it sticks better,

Have you tried stiffening up the front suspension? The Pilot Powers are the best tyres I have on my DRZ so far, really value for money.

hi raptor,im on stock front suspension setting but lowered to 10mm,n yes totally agree with u abt power race..i feel the tyres can last for few races n track days..or else i be broke by year end..lol..

will try yer suggestion but mine a baby 125,not a 400 or higher,,sud be same right?n stiffening it up wud be a heavier duty oil ?n also does it mean i have to stiffen the rear too?so that when i get on the bike, frnt n rear will sink evenly..meaning the sag thingy u guys dicussed which i read till blur

If you have dropped the front forks by 10mm... the bike will be quick to drop into a corner.. its abit too much.. should not drop by more than 5 mm.

Stiffen up the front means to turn the compression and rebound damping adjusters harder, mebbe by a click at time and test out.

All the guys I ride here with drop by a max of 5mm only. Mebbe Singapore fashion is 10mm... but some of these here are pro racers who live and breathe supermotards. This is what I learn from them...am sharing sharing this info with you.

Try changing to thicker and adding more oil.. like a 100cc more for a start to slow the fork compression at the last part of its movement.

Its a trial and error thing. No one method will suit all.

Am not recommending that you follow what I have said but do so at your own risk.

anyone tracked using pilot power 2ct??

hows the grip in the corners??

it gripped very well when i was coming down from cameron highlands n normal road bends n corner as i flattened the side arrows n tireman logo..

was told could only be used for 1 or 2 track sessions due to 'heat cycle'??
