below is the only major injury I got other than a sore right bum, aching left shoulder, 2 slight scratches on my left calf and a slightly stiff neck. Really must thank the protective gear (protective jacket, knee pad and gloves), altho the gloves could have done better.

The entire gear above cost me

I hope more Singaporean bikers would consider wearing protective gear when riding. It is a psychological trauma to your loved ones and yourself (now still riding like an old man after the accident). Until now, I still don't dare to tell my mom, haha. :cheeky:

No medical bills to contend with altho the bike repairs did cost me >$250, sigh.

But overall, I am very lucky to be alive......every accident you can walk away from makes you realize just how fragile we motorcyclists are. To all bros and sis, may luck always be with you and ride safe!

Sorry to hear about your accident, but glad to know you're alright. What are you riding?

Gear matters but not totally, first you must understand why you skidded.

That stretch of curvy road I also skidded once on a rainy day but managed to recover. Part of the road is actually red bricks or bricks painted in red as it is before a heavily used pedestrian crossing....so some "keh kiang" LTA officer think it is a good idea to highlight this fact with a red brick road that is also more slippery. You can see vehicles' skid marks all the time on that stretch of road but I believe it is my fault as I should have known the danger by now and go real slow when going on that stretch, sigh.

I only know this about protective gear, bro....when rubbing tarmac with my whole body, I am so happy there is something between my bare skin and the road. :cheeky:

skidded about 2 mths ago, only injuries is knee cap abrasions.

wearing FF helmet + leather gloves + long sleeved jacket and jeans with covered shoes.

To ride on the road, You need skills,Stamina, or even luck.

But to be a good rider, you have to change with your environment, and adjust yourself to its rhythm.

Cultivate the confidence to face the different situations. Don't let yourself to be subdued by the environment :thumb:

yeah. and some people still like to comment "SO HOT WEAR FOR WHAT?"

1 accident. Just 1 accident, and they will understand.

Your tyres? Brand? Model? How fast?

Actually this is more of a your body, your problem sort of thing.

Stock tyre for phantom Metzeler Lazertec. Aiya, phantom is heavy for a 200cc bike and its stock tyre has relatively poor traction. Even in straight road, good weather, brake also will skid wan. But I have this bike for a few years liao, how fast then altho i didn't see (don't have habit of looking at speedo when turning) but whether it can take that kind of cornering at that speed, i know by now.

But no excuse, stupid is as stupid does. I know that stretch is dangerous, still want to play with fire, sigh. Totally, my fault. :slapforehead:

Back to the main topic, my point is not to push blame away from myself but just to share the importance of wearing protective gear. I am a believer for the rest of my life. :thumb:

I using knee cap padding but it is quite old, velco not as sticky and lots of scratches after the accident. Asked Ah boy whether got new ones but he don't want to sell me, he suggested go get those paddings for roller skating, cheaper and comes with elbow pad as well. He's really quite a good chap! :thumb:

imho bro.. i think red bricks means school zone.. perhaps thats why they purposely use red brick and compromise on the traction and force ppl to go slower when they are there.. just wondering can ask how did u skid and what lead to skidding under the wet road?

the last time i skidded i locked up my front brakes but managed to roll away without injury.. and the gloves prevented me from further road rash on my wrist! (its the cheaper bell gloves i bought from ah boy..)

That other time when I skidded it was raining slightly and I was turning and suddenly lost traction at the rear but speed then was slow. Logically, I would have fell but somehow I didn't. The whole thing happened so fast then I also don't know what happened.

Hmmm...maybe some of the lao jiao here know this better than me. When turning and the bike slipping do you guys counter-steer to right it? Does it happen instinctively or heng-suay only?

Anyway, there is a big church there so maybe that's why there are red bricks on the road.

eh.. i saw this in another thread on red tiles - looks like they are very slippery =X

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/113783-Red-tiles-on-roads-in-school-zones-slippery

personally when i feel it slipping ill try to nudge the bike to regain back the traction.. to me its instinctive.. cos i think when it happens especially the front wheel i dont think you have much time to think..

i feel its best not to get into such situation.. =X my butt will always gauge the amount of traction i have from the 2 wheels.. if not enough i better dont try leaning the bike over so much during turning.. i will also down shift to lower gear for power to the rear wheel and avoid using brakes or sudden brakes to avoid traction loss.. traction is shared by cornering+braking+acceleration.. so must balance!

last time i skidded, it was wet at the concrete flooring. those you see at MSCP. freaking slippery when wet, dunno why the govt still uses them.

anyway, turned too fast i guess, and just skidded. good thing it was low speed so no major injuries except for bruised knee. wasn't wearing leg armour.

crashbar saved my bike's paintjjob. i love my crashbars. i love crashbars.

i love crashbars too. my crashbar saved my right leg during a front wheel skid.. the crashbar got bent and protected my leg.. giving me enough time to roll..

I once skidded on my pulsar in my office MSCP. I was coming down the concrete slope, it was wet. Then I applied the front brakes as I was turning and boom in the next couple of seconds I was on the ground. My speed was only 20km/hr, yet I fall, but no injury.

Basically the killer combination is:

TURNING+MSCP+WET+JAM FRONT BRAKE = SURE FALL, 100%, even bridgestone tyres wont help you.

After that now whenever I see water even on normal roads, while turning, I am super super slow and keep my right hand completely off the brake lever.

oh. but u shouldnt be applying front bike at turning, just press the rear brake slightly or down gear.
