If you think the Monster gets hot, wait till you try Superbikes.

My 999 gets super unbearable in slow traffic. I get very easily frustrated whenever theres a redlight.

Its so bad that I usually take detours with lighter traffic. Moving at a constant ~20km/h (Typical squeezing between stationary vehicles speed) is enough to raise temperature to 100+. If this is kept up for like 15 minutes, the entire bike including the fuel tank can feel hot.

It takes forever to cool down even at expressway speeds. Tried and proven. Keys in my pouch are very warm to touch when I take them out.. :giddy:

Mine actually gets heat up pretty fast even while waiting at the traffic lights junction.... can gets really hot till I almost cannot endure the heat from below and wanted to turn off the engine and park aside to cool off....

Have encountered once tat bike cant move off when its getting really really hot...... Luckily not much traffic around & i managed to push the bike up kerb, let i cool down for hours ... :giddy:

Hi Jess1717,

What do you wear when you ride? Jeans? I wear jeans and boots when I ride. Can only really FEEL the heat sometimes during hot weather or slow traffic. I don't have any problem with the bike heating up so far even in traffic jams (yes I stay behind cars like a dummy. Unless it's a very bad jam). Woah you let your bike cool for hours! So what did you do to kill time during that few hours?? Read bike magazine?? Hehe!

You pple must be dam skillfull to be able to kick to neutral during stops. Through-out my riding years (though not a lot), I have never done that. I always stop in 1st gear with the clutch lever pressed in. You all should know how tiring that is for Ducatis. The clutch lever is dam tight ..

ah lam,

About servicing cost of Ducatis, it really depends where you go to. I sent in my bike to Minerva last Saturday and will be collecting it this Saturday (riding up to Cameron Highlands next weekend!). I don't know how much poorer I will get but I sort of prepared a lump sum. To make things worse, I am taking taxi to work and back home for the whole week! But I prefer to let authorised pple do my bike. So that is the price I have to pay. But common things like changing of tyre, engine oil, spark plug etc you can do it at other places. So be prepared for all these. Part and parcel of owning a Ducati!

BTW rehdeer,

How come you are taking 2A lessons? I thought you are already riding a Monster??

Wah !! so jialat ar take cab go work for one week? hmmm... if i want to mod the whole exhaust system higher would be around how much? higher exhaust looks much more nicer to me. thanks for your info anyway.. 7k not that expensive.. still can consider. cause i rather pay more to get a lesser problem bike then getting a cheap and problematic one. Tremis pipes is not street legal right ? but heard that many say the sound rocks! how much is a pair ?

As a highmount pipe user, i have to be honest, i am still in favour of low mount (round, not oval) exhausts. They have a classic look which IMHO suits monsters much better. Highmounts look a lot better at first, but after awhile, you start to prefer lowmounts. I used to run lowmounts (staintunes) but switched to my current gpr high mounts because they are relatively cheap ($1350 for a pair) as well as streetlegal (my old lowmounts are illegal), and just to try something 'different'. If you are using oval cans, i think high mount looks better though. If ovals are lowmounted they look a bit 'pancake' to me, not as nice.

Termis is not street legal for sure, but popular with many duke owners. I've only heard one on a duke 748 zooming by once recently, damn fierce. But i think it wont be as fierce on a smaller M400 lah LOL.

:giddy: wow... so most prob m4 had a more minor heating problems compared to bigger dukes due to it's smaller cc?

anybody tried those big bore kits from 400cc up to 500cc/600cc? i heard it's possible, but at a price & dunno bottom end components needed to be changed or tuned boh.

and the gps exhaust system for the 999 looks damn swee! 3undertail pipes! wonder how the gases got channeled from the header to the pipes... maybe a 2,1,3 exhaust system? as compared to hayabusha's 4,2,1 exhaust system? :cheeky:

Hi yohji, I'm usually in pants and boots (if work) or jeans with sports shoes (leisure). Can really feel the heat from the bike while waiting at the traffic lights and so I try not to go to places where the traffic is heavy..... could say I'm quite kayu coz I'm not good in manoeuvring in between cars and many at times will b staying behind cars..... then the heat goes up as I waited....waited.... then like nEO too will b frustrated..... Imagining heated up in between legs.....

How I pass my time for tat few hours :cheeky:

Go nearby shop shop loh! LOL

Well, tat happened only once when I was attending a wake... so park my bike then walk to the wake... luckily not far.... :cheeky: return back hours later to pick her up :cheeky:

Well, batt totally flat now, have 2 buy new batt..... :sian:

Any1 got good lobang for cheaper batt:confused:

IF the battery is flat, try recharging it.

If battery water low, re-fill it, then recharge it.

If you're using the water type battery, chances are its mroe than 2 years old. Get a sealed maintenance free one, noneed to be same size.

If the bike is not cranking at all, might be the starter motor relay. If it cranks but wouldn't start, then check the spark plugs. A starter motor costs around $400+ i think... :giddy:

Mine is a FQ plate and I have to start the bike about 4 to 5 times every morning when I go to work or returning from office.

Then, I have this fella whom diy some 'cable grounding' for me at a hdb void deck.

Till today, even if I didn't ride for 3 to 4 days, the bike start by 1 click.

Maybe you might want to do this diy as well?

Cheers!

cool! i think the m6 have almost the same power as other inline 400cc bikes... at least if they tease u by cutting ur lane, you got the power to makan them back wit a monsterous roar! haha.

how does ur m6 sounds like? i heard a m9 wit stock exhausts dat sounds very very quiet. no audible deep & bassy thumping sounds eh hahah. or stock monsters are sounded like dat? gotta change to illegal termis then the sounds'll come out? :cheer:

bro ur duke looks very swee wit the undertail gpr exhaust  how much do they cost? does ur pillion complain of heating problem? most important... are they st legal? heard a black m4 duke at lavender st wit same gpr exhausts be4... wow sibae loud, almost like a 999 & 996 i heard be4, though not as bassy or low. heh, but nice!

hey johnathan thanks for the kind words, but you are too kind, check out motocafe's bike for an example of a REAL undertail exhaust system lol...mine is just regular highmount (although mounted a little higher than normal)

The pipes can be bought for 1350 from Kallang Cycle. The pillion doesnt have any trouble with heat due to the carbon fibre wrap which really insulates against heat very well. No matter how long you have been running the bike, you can always put your hand on the exhaust and it will only feel very warm at most. The sound was quite soft at first, but lately it just keeps getting louder and louder, it's almost scary. I was told that mufflers need to burn-in a while before they really produce the sound they are meant to and in this case, it was very true. Now its so loud that i have trouble believing it's still street-legal heheh....yes, they are 100% street legal (have the certificate and everything), this was the main reason i bought them...anyway i have a review of these pipes somewhere in the previous pages of this thread..you can go check it out if you want more info...cheers

Hi everybody,

Got my bike back this afternoon. Let me do a cost break-down for the benefit of those who wants to know the cost of servicing a Monster at the authorised workshop. Here it goes ...

Parts replaced

------------------

Front sprocket change - $72

Rear sprocket change - $116

Oil filter - $20

Front brake pad - $100!! - I can't believe this. Can anyone enlighten me on what kind of brake pad this is??

Timing belt x 2 - $160!! - Seems like price went up.

15% discount for original Ducati parts - $70.20

DID chain (don't know if it's X-ring but it's golden in colour) - $125

Castrol R4 engine oil x 3 - $60

Spark plugs x 2 - $16

Motul fork oil - $23

Motul brake fluid - $8

Workmanship Charges

----------------------------

Engine oil and filter change 0.3hrs - $15

Front fork oil change 0.7hrs - $35

Fork overhaul 2.8hrs - $140

Final drive (dont know what's this) 0.8hrs - $40

Front brake pads change 0.2hrs - $10

Add everything up - $913.29 w/ 5% GST

Is there a need to do some adjustments after changing the timing belt? I don't see any adjustments stated in the receipt. I heard they will wash the bike after servicing? Mine was more dirty then when I sent it in (I washed my bike before sending it in). I am bloody poor now. Going to ride the bike softly and pump Shell95 for the rest of the month. No more V-Power.

Update:

Just now I was washing the bike and I noticed scratches in a few areas and one quite bad scratch that is near to the rear sprocket area. Can even see the bare metal. I guess they must have scratched it when changing my chain and sprocket. Sigh .. so much for AUTHORISED workshop. There is also a greasy thingy on my rear tyre (all around the side wall. Don't is it tyre polish or grease). So dangerous.

Hmm why must my paint job take this kind of abuse when I sent it in to a so-called AUTHORISED workshop. I took great pains to maintain the paint job and now it has a deep scar. This is the thing I hate. Send bike for service and bike comes back with screw driver and spanner scratches.

PS: I am not asking you guys not to go there but I just wanna say I am quite dissapointed. :nono:

Sad to say thats the standard pricing from minerva......

as for the timing belt ..... did u ask to be replace ?

and for the brake pad .... it shud be much lesser ...... Are u using single or dual disc brake ?? single pad cost $50 bucks

but in general ..... their workmanship already Kills you let alone the price of a parts.

Some swear by minerva .....till death... if so ..... you have to swear by ur money too.
