during the long "wait", save up your cash haha.. remember to set aside some funds for upgrading (e.g termignoni!)

i am too, yearning for a 695 or 696 entry level monster. who knows maybe we can purchase together and get good discounts?

Dear fellow Ducati lovers,

I believe this would be the best place for me to enquire about ducati's Monster S2R 1000. I'm contemplating on getting one myself but have found some negative reviews that is refraining me from owning one! But guess the ducati monster lovers here may perhaps be able to solve my following problem:

1) Suitability/practicality: I am looking for a reliable bike that allows me to go touring up North south highway....this bike being air-cooled, will it pose a problem like overheating or the wind-blast may be too strong since the fairing seems a lil small....

2) Fuel consumption: I heard that the 12L tank can only do abt 200Km max...that would be quite a number of stops to be made if i decide to ride up to cameron highlands?

3) With the new 696 due to arrive, would that affect the resale value of the S2R in future....

Hope that some of ya can give some honest opinions that could perhaps help so that i can solve this dilemma to go ahead to get one or not? :cheeky:

The s2r doesnt pack as much power compared to the liquid cooled s4r series which is running 134 bhp. The bike being air cooled doesnt constrain it in any way with regards to touring. Reliability is undoubted and monster's have been running air cooled engines since forever. As for consumption,12 litre doing 200 km is a wrong figure. reserve light comes on at 3L left in the tank and the mileage would be approx 180km-220km depending on how u ride. With regards to touring, mileage u get would always be much more definitely due to the more constant rpm when eating the highway. Unless, u are flatting out all the way, u could go a good 240Km without any worries at all..

As for cruising speed, wind blast is definitely an issue for naked bikes and i would say the front fairing is purely cosmetic. ive seen s4r's go 180-200 average (crazier dudes), wind factor is high but its manageable base on ur comfort level. But going up nshw at 180kmph on average is NOT a problem for an S2R.

The bike has more than sufficient punch in its engine within its range and has quite a big difference in price compared to the s4r. But its worth its value. The 696 is already in town but these are 2 different bikes, anyone who's ridden a monster more than 900cc would know the big difference in overall performance and power so i don't think resale would be an issue.

humble 2cents :)

humm...i thought i read somewhere that the S2R 1000 is air-cooled and only the SR-4 and SR-4S is liquid cool stock (i may be wrong aniwae, wat do i know of ducati's as this would be my 1st intro to the world of wonderful italian technology....forza italia! Sound real tempting to get one already! :cheeky:

Gracias fweddy for your feedback. I would very much love to get the sr4 but due to financial constraint, the S2R would fulfill my fantasy of owning a ducati finally!

Just llike to post another qtn, i've heard how sweet the sound of thermy pipes on ducati and would love to get a set, do ya know what's the damage for the slip-ons and would it consume more petrol should i put one on the bike?

I'll be going down to the show-rm tomorrow....if all goes well...will finally own my 1st italian beauty! Can't sleep just thinking how it would feel like riding the s2r up cameron....hope to meet fellow ducati owners for ride once i get my machine! Cheers!

s2r got 2 version, 800cc or 1000cc. for 800cc is wet clutch, 1000cc, is dry clutch.for me, i feel dry clutch is more fun, u will feel the different. anyway its depend on yours budget. if cant get 1000cc, get 800cc, better then none. u wont regrets, if u know how to appreciate italian beauty, just my 2 cents.

I agree......Highly recommended.....EXCEPT they don't strip your bike. You need to get your mechanic to strip your bike. They do (purely) paint jobs

Dood its between 1.3 to 1.4 k for carbon or titanium pipes. I prefer ti. Carbon is bassier but less punch. I got mine at KC ordered through Mike. Waiting time is about 2 weeks tho and you have to send it for inspection yourself. Hope it helps.

wha hann, everyone's changing their pipes. tht's wad i hate abt other ducati riders! haha.

rubber_duckie: gald to hear u managed to get a m400! btw i think tht should be abt e price. coz strippin e engine n all is not easy work. paintjob on tank+front mudguard+rear seat cowl already costs abt 250-300. so yea. do join us on e weekly gathering!

thanks. gulp! costly... i wonder how much the termis and akrapovic slip ons cost then.... i reckon some amount of tuning will also be required after the GPR exhaust change?
