we were just discussing this just now..and u kena it..can i ask u, is ur key hole screw intact?

yep.

the mechanic double secured it for me because it dropped out on my old FJR before, so it has that history.

the key thing was intact, the securing thingy when u push the handle of the box down, was UP. which means it should be secured.

so i think it really shook until it came off.

Actually the panniers to fly off is a safety feature. Applicable to GTR and other tourers that come stock with them. Just imagine you dropped the bike (stationary or at any speed), the panniers doesnt bounced out? The weight of the bike will crush on the cover totally. I am speaking from experience. ^_^. It has to bounce out from the latch/catch.

Of course there should be a limit too.

Anyway ideally we are not supposed to go very fast on those less than ideal unpaved or filled with port holes road.

In my opinion, everything designed and developed by Man always has their pros and cons. There cant never be the perfect bike. There cant never be an all rounded bike too.

i have locking pins inserted on each of the panniers.got them from a forumer :andrea.just an assurance not to pick up the panniers if they go air borne!

probably the unpaved road shook it off.

i always make sure my panniers are secured so that would mean that if someone wanted your panniers really bad, it would still come off. hahaha.

i can barely see the panniers in my mirror... luckily i stopped for a drink instead of pushing 200km.

i was tired after 60km due to the heat, the temperature showed 36 degrees on the bike!

seen one fazer1 using cable tie to secure the original FJR pannier since it came off b4

Hullo guys . . .

Talking abt panniers . . . . I lost my left side pannier on sun at the junction of pulau sibu n tanjung leman . Was traveling abt 170 to 180 kmh . I only realize it was gone when I was abt 20 km away from e junction . It was only me n my Fren . So when I overtook him than he started to horn me telling me my left pannier was missing . We back track n came to e junction n met wif 2 uncles who infd us dat a black car driven by a male Chinese n 2 male passengers had picked up my pannier n drove off .

All my stuffs inside the pannier was gone ! I was very sure it was secured properly when we stopped for a toilet break abt 30 mins from e junction . Prior to dat . . . I was traveling on uneven roads n a few times went airborne at the bridges . Went back to spore wif only e right side pannier ! Look very stupid I must say !

So now I'm not using any panniers except a top box .

Guys , moral of e story . . . Dbl n triple n more cnfd to check ur panniers are fully secured n once in awhile turn back to look if they are still there after traveling on uneven roads !

AnywAys , take extra precaution guys n safe guard those panniers cos I heard e price for both panniers is a killer !

Ride safe !
