Hi guys. I need your opinions on the riding gear you rather wear in spore's road and weather. You see, currently I'm using a mesh jacket and its in need of replacement. It's good cos it keeps me cool when riding especially on a hot sunny day. It can get quite warm if I'm stuck in a jam but it isn't as bad after you get use to it.

Past few times, I have been caught in freak showers where by I had no chance to stop and wear my rain coat or I was just mins away from my destination and I thought I could make it but I couldn't. Thus end result I got soaked. There were also cases where I thought it was gonna pour, put on my rain coat, and end up it didn't rain or pour as much and I end up wet in my own sweat cos of the rain coat.

It's about time I buy a new jacket and question I throw to the floor is; would you rather get a waterproof jacket and suffer in the humidity of spore and its wonderful traffic but the convenient when it rains (tuck in and ride on). Or you rather get a mesh, cooling and if it rains, stop at 1 safe spot and put on the waterproof liner (if it comes with any) or put on a really pricey pair of rain coat and try to wear them the best you can before you get soaked.

I welcome recommendations of brands and models of jacket too. I personally have been eyeing waterproof jackets but most of my friend advised me against it cos its ridiculously hot. Haha I would love big pockets to keep my passes for the security check. Currently eyeing stuff from speed and strength, joe rocket, Thor, fox, fly racing and rev it.

I've been using mesh jacket for 8 years already and no complaints from me so far.

The problem with 'waterproof' riding jackets is that when it does not rain, it is too warm to wear even with all the vents.

For those jackets with waterproof liners, the outer shell of the jacket still gets wet and you cant wear it without drying it, so kind of crap there. And those liners wont be as good as a rain coat. Those showers we have in SG will probably soak it.

The best bet for me is still a good, breathable mesh jacket with an oversized raincoat to wear over when it rains.

It does not rain everyday, and when it does not rain I prefer not to get heatstroke. :)

And anyway, we still need to stop on put on the rain pants anyway when it rains.

Thats the thing, at times when it's going to start to rain, I can't really filter left and stop at a safe place to wear a rain coat. Hahaha traffic is bad to go to my workplace most of the time. So by the time I manage to don my rain coat I be already somewhat wet. And there were times too I tried to,put in the rain coat in advance but end up it didn't really rain and it got hot wearing the rain coat. Maybe cos I buy those cheap rain coats with no vents haha.

And agree with those mesh with rain liners, they get soaked too and you still need to stop to put them on. What rain coats are you guys using

I used the tachi drymaster rainsuit (RSRR02). Subsequently, I bought the drymaster team jacket (RSJ297) for my daily wear. The outside of the jacket is waterproof and comes with the CE elbow and shoulder guard and back protector.

I have been using it as my daily jacket when I ride and it gets hot at times when I stop at junction but I am getting used to it and that's a trade off for having a water repellent jacket with protection.

I'm a new 1 month old rider and I have yet to try both during rain. There was only 1 occasion when I am exposed to a light drizzles with the jacket, hence I cant really comment on the reliability of the waterproofness though friends have been giving positive feedback on the brand.

really depends on ur commuting. if mainly highways, can get the waterproof types so u can dont have to stop and change. but if alot of start-stop traffic, mesh is the way to go. dries fast as well if caught in the rain. and cooling once on the move. just get a larger rain jacket to wear over when it does rain.

A ride a day, keeps the doctor away!

The dry master has always gotten mixed reviews for me. Some said for the amount you pay, it will still leak after 6 mths to 1 year. I have been the user of cheap raincoats ever since I started riding cos mine don't last no more than 6 mths, haha could be the way I fold and the strong heat and UV and humidity during storage.

My commute is a mix of both highway and start stop traffic (bad jams at certain locations). Worst is when the radiator fan kick in and all of the hot air goes to your legs and what not hahaha.

Been using those normal $40+ raincoats every since I started riding.

Dump those in the box and are subjected to the heat of the sun, so I suppose it does not matter whether you use a $40 or $200 raincoat which will degenerate anyway.

Each raincoat last me about 2 years, so I guess its worth it already.

For most of us when it rains, we need to stop somewhere to put on the waterproof over-pants anyway, so it does not really makes sense to me to buy a waterproof jacket.

Just get an oversized raincoat to wear over the jacket will do.

hmm that made sense. base case your pants will be wet and you need to stop and put on over pants. hahaha unless you dont mind getting your pants wet.

now im looking at a hybrid mesh jacket, combination of leather and mesh material for added protection yet good cooling air flow. im really swaying to that options now. hahaha thanks man. btw which brand of rain coat? 2 years is really good.

When leather gets soaked it is bloody heavy. If it is mesh then water will get in anyway. Those mesh jackets with liner are not very breathable so you will still steam up inside. Even goretex waterproof breathable will be hot under direct sun.

wow hybrid mesh jackets.

so have u saw/found any ?

Mesh jacket with armour. Add on raincoat if it rains. And don't wait till you feel raindrops to put on your raincoat. Put them on when the clouds seem heavy. With weather like that it won't be too hot to have your raincoat on anyway.

Waterproof = windproof. Even if it isn't raining you'll be soaked. With sweat.

Icon compound mesh. Mesh textile in the chest, leather on the shoulders. Looks promising.

I think what I hate when I wear rain coat early and it hasn't rain is when you're stuck in traffic. Even though its cooling, the heat from the bike gets to you still after a while.

Yeah waterproof is wind proof. Vent design very important but once you stop, it gets warm. Haha

Progrip.

Been using this brand for years. Don't really think there is a huge difference between the different brands for the price bracket, I think.

I am also in need of a riding jacket. I dont need it to be water proof. But i need it to be able to provide me a decent amount of protection in an accident. It must also be cheap.

Suggestions guys?

You could try Dainese Spedio

http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-spedio-d-dry-jacket

Mesh with removable waterproof liner

I think Dainese is over-priced. I've had their boots and raincoat but the quality wasn't superior to other cheaper brands.

I wouldn't go for waterproof liners. Firstly you will have to remove your jacket to zip in the liner when it rains. More troublesome than just putting on a raincoat over your jacket. Secondly it will most likely leave your front wet because the liner doesn't cover the zip and rain gets in there. Thirdly you still end up with a wet jacket even if the liner does keep you dry.

Any tall n skinny rider here wearing riding pants? Ive been searching for a daily/casual pants (with knee n hip guards/padding ofcos!) but seems cant find a nice fit for me. Went to motoworld but couldnt get my size. I hv trouble with the length. Waist ok but too short.

Any particular brands to recommend for skinny tall guy?

Always thought Daniese as one of the better ones hahaha but ya some said inner liners just don't work in heavy rain. I too don't feel like taking out the jacket to zip up the liner so I think it's either mesh with no liner or waterproof jackets.

Raincoat over the mesh is easiest. Liner under - the jacket still gets soaked and when you remove it is very heavy with all the water soaked in.
