Actually backfire is due to the tuning of carbs or carbs prob. Normally pple do it "manually" while riding. If nt will be the tuning went haywired liao dat the intake of petrol or wadever is too much liao dat y will caused the sound or backfire.

So far mine is a new bike too only 3 mths old & had already clear my meter couple of times. But hav nt met into any probs yet & definitely wud nt wan to face any probs too.

Might be during the assembly of ur bike b4 collection or ur riding style dat causes the tuning to be off. U might wan to check wif ur mechs & solved the probs b4 it worsens. Make sure u r there to supervise the mechs when they touches ur bike, cause u might nt knw wad they will do to repair ur bike.

Juz hav to be careful.

I have this problem too. Mine is a new spec III, around one month old. I thought the pop was okie cause it happens only when we start the bike and not when we are riding it.

Posted

Wa i didn't know so many spec3 riders have this prob...I also have this prob for my spec3 which is now clocking 20k km. Sometimes loud, sometimes soft.

Changed plugs - no diff. Never throttle before switching off bike. Could be carbs not perfectly synchronised.

So i m not the only 1

I haf tis problem after i changed to aftermarket exhaust. No prob with my stock pipe. But happen once in the blue moon, so i guess is okay n cant be bother abt it :cheeky:

Phew, so i'm not the only one.... Seems like alot of new Spec 3 riders have this problem. But no worries bros, i'll get to the bottom of it.

episode2 & jamesgoh13 - Yup i agree with you guys, have to be the carburator and the fuel/firing chamber problem. I guess there is a build up of fuel unburnt somewhere and it builds up after a long period of time, for my case it's over 12hrs. Then when i start the bike, "POW!!!" If i start my bike estimate before 12hrs, won't have the pop sound.... funny right? haha. Anyway where is the caburator tuning knob for super 4 ah? Can't seem to find it, hidden somewhere inside. Won't touch it, just wanna know where it is.

As duckit says, check the plugs. Could be it also. Anyway i'm planning to change to NGK Iridiums soon. Which is better? Denso or NGK?

No worries Spec 3 riders, i'll check with the Boon Siew mechanics and see what they have to say.

hi to all... my comments here... might be right or wrong but its just my 2 cents...

a few reasons to who your bike will back fire...

-wrong types of plugs used...

-spark plug cables o/c or loose

-carbs tuning out

-carbon stucked up in engine or carbs area

the above seems to be impossible to all as your guys are using new bikes. but maybe all new spec 3 s4 bikes have this problem due to its too new? i cant confirm on this as i'm riding a Hyper VTEC but i had this similar problem some 1 year plus ago which was then a 6 years old bike. mileage was about 80k and it did backfire when i was riding like 20km/hr moving off from a junction... had my plugs changed and it as ok...

anyone, comments pls... the above is my 2 cent only... no offence to anyone.

that is something very interesting...

this never happened to my spec III before... maybe cos mine is the 05 version of spec III.

even had left my bike unriden for weeks and nothing happen (except a bit difficult to start)

just a check, did you guys blow the throttle just immediately before you off the engine... know alot of people actually like to do that... as that might be the cause of backfire...

maybe during those 12 hrs someone fiddled with ur throttle and twisted a few times.. so when ignite, ... "POP!" Congrats and welcome to the backfire club. :D

juhzac,,

Have u ask ur boonsiew mechanic, what did they say ? cos i also got this pop sound morning when start . this happen only after 1mth time for my new spec3 bike..

i wonder is it because we all still run in never go fast alway remain 80kmph , then fuel never burn properly still left inside chamber so next morning then gana this sound ??

Hi anric79,

Ok i just did my 2nd servicing afew days ago. Asked the mechanic and he ruled out spark plugs. he said new bikes won't have problem with plugs as spark plugs can last at least 10000km, aside from the problem, he says that while riding if there is backfire or pop-pop sound, then it might be the plug faulty. he also ruled out the tuning for carburator for he says if i didn't touch the tuning, then it's not it cuz new bikes are all factory settings and very unlikely for new bike's carburator to 'run'. He says it's likely to be the build up of fuel in the exhaust. But he says it is harmless, it's just like a release due to buildup and pressure. He says if the problem still exist until my 3rd servicing, he'll take a closer look. Hope this helps, if your bike still under warranty and have 3 free servicing, go ask the mechanic in detail lor, hope they might be able to give a solid solution to solve this problem.

Hi all,

Just wondering is it possible to spray design our exhaust pipes, unless you using yoshi or micron ..etc etc...

I'm using stock end can wrapped with chrome plate. Tot of air brushing the plate to suit my bike design. Is it possible and where cud I do it?.

Thanks.
