Have anyone here considered the upcoming Kawasaki CONCOURSâ„¢ 14? Check out the link below.

Clicky

Dunno if it is marketing or what, but the hype have somehow won my heart. May seriously consider this bike when spirit gets too old to ride a sports bike. Some of my peers call it another "old man" bike. No need skill one, just open throttle and you will surely win those speeders wannabe...

hmm... not sure. I hope that it's an improvement over the predecessor, the 1300.

Personally I don't like the look of the new exhaust. Black colour one. Ugly man! But the following features found on the new Concoursâ„¢ 14 (2008) are what got my attention.

1) DOHC Engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT)

2) Gear-Driven Dual Engine Balancers

3) Ram Air Induction

4) Tetra-Lever Shaft Drive

5) Antilock Brake System (this one old tech but my braking skill are bad)

Everything about it reeks of luxury class motorcycling. I just hope I’m loaded by the time I grow too old for sport bikes. Suddenly I feel a cold shiver down my back…

Sounds like a good improvement over it's predecessor. I'm also curious 'cos the '02 or the '03 version had bad reviews. Over 130 km/h a lot of vibration and wobbling. I read that in Australia when they were test-riding it.

Honestly, I have not paid much attention to any of Kawasaki’s range of bikes. But this is one bike that might warrant a second look when shopping for a new hypersports machine.

The Kawasaki Concours™ 14 (2008) has a couple of things in common with the Yamaha Vmax, it’s been around essentially unchanged since introduced in 1986. Apparently it has a very dedicated following of owners who absolutely love it. I believe that it is because of heavy marketing pressures that pushed Kawasaki (finally) to bring the bike into the 21st century. And they are introducing the Concours 14 and Concours 14 ABS as 2008 models that will show up in dealers early in 2007.

A quick search revealed some hints of its heritage (see link below).

Clicky.

On the other hand, in view of the dropping price of cars in Singapore, one might seem foolhardy to commit so much investment for just two wheels. If I had more money in the bank, I’ll be hard pressed between acquiring a simple family car or to nurse my itch.

Forgot to add the following features. Might be of interest.

6) KIPASS (Kawasaki's Intelligent Proximity Activation Start System)

7) Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (Wonder if auto inflate function would be seen in the near future. hmmm...)

Personally, ST11 is the most comfortable, reliable, stable and value for money tourer. Bikers who used one for touring would know what I am talking about. Not much of any 'sports' characteristics though. It's a pity it is no longer in production.

It does seems like you have decided on Honda's STX 1300. Have you ever considered Yamaha's FJR? Personally I find the aesthetics of the FJR more appealing. Ever noticed that the side mirrors on the STX is rather odd, or that the rear mono shocks are at one side of the bike?

Well it's just me but it has been a full 4 years ago when Honda introduced the STX 1300 to us. And from history it does seem like a full (4 years cycle) before a flagship series gets an overhaul. I'm rather keen to see what upgrades are slated for Honda's 2008 models.

Hi C-Prompt:

Ha ha, yes, I have decided on Honda STX, or nothing.:cheeky:

FJR is a good bike. And I see more FJRs than STXs on the road. It's just personal preferences. I know my own riding style by now and I think the STX's design and quality suits me better.

By any chance do you know what is the average tank range of the STX before reserve as compared to the FJR? Hmmm...you have opened an age old itch of mine too....

STX has a full tank of 29L, 5L reserve.

FJR has the full tank of 26L, 4L reserve.

STX average 17km/h at speed of 120km/h

FJR average 18km/h at speed of 120km/h

FJR has a better handling, fuel efficiency, engine power and brake system.

STX has a better wind protection for rider and pillion, more comfortable rider position and pillion sitting position for long distance.

STX side panniers are able to fit in one FF with some free little space for rain clothes.

FJR side panniers also able to fit in one FF but no other space for rain clothes.

and also the locking device is not very good for FJR, can break open easily.

Thanks for the tip, and I have indeed contacted Domingo.

I'm going to get a STX from Loois, not because the white STX is no good, it is simply my budget constraint allows me only the Loois STX which is older and hence cheaper.

If you scour around, there are actually several used STXs on sale. In comparison to them, Domingo's white STX is a very good buy. I disagree his price is high. Please contact him on his price. It is a reasonable price for a barely year old STX with such low mileage (look, it's just clocked broken in mileage!) So yes, if you looking for STX, do check out Domingo's before it is gone.

I test rode the STX at Loois, mine...the engine is really sporty and growls like the VFR's V-4. It gives a sporty throaty bubble-bubble-bubble note, maybe it's firing order is close to those of twins.

Bro,

Fine and good that you tested the bike. At what speed you tested. Cause if the speed / engine rev is not sufficient, the bike will not show any problem. Also, as for the fuel mileage, at 120 km/h the fuel consumption is around 19km : 1 litre.
