Those who like to race or ride fast on public roads while pillioning someone... should take this is as a wake up call.

not just the p plates, the older bikers also forget that with a pillion, braking distance is longer :nono:

it would be good to be 1st aid trained.. as if a accident happens u can still help while the ambulance arrives.. precious time could be saved..

Today while riding I almost banged into a taxi's rear. My first ever near accident but luckily I swerved fast enough the my left lane and I was lucky enough there isn't any cars there. Phew.

i definitely agree with u...

perhaps they should incorporate a practical lesson on all classes so as drivers/riders do not have a reason not to help in accidents whenever they see any.

its just like a certified first-aider who doesn't render help, might get into court trouble..

I'm not sure about first aiders, but I know doctors are bounded by the Hippocratic Oath to help victims in need. Its a moral issue that those capable and are medically trained should render help, and hence the oath.

The law requires them to do so to uphold this moral good. Just like how punishment is meted out for injustice.

I'm aware first aiders are accountable for the help they render. This means they have to explain the procedures they applied. If the victim receives incorrect first aid help, the first aider is liable. If there are laws prosecuting those who are not first-aid trained but render incorrect help, then this must serve as a warning to us not to move victims. You can't know for sure you didn't aggravate the injuries.

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

yesterday just meet another 1 , this round is a bus. I was traveling on the 2nd lane and on my left signal( 1st lane bus lane). i saw the bus are slowly coming out from the bus stop and i high beam to the driver and suddenly the stupid bus driver just accelerates cut across 3 lanes in order to make a right turn at the next traffic where i need to turn left at the next junction.

its happen along at AMK ave 3 and the next cross junction is ave 10. The bus service nos is 261. During that time, the road is wet and its a downslope :giddy: . cause me to fish tail but luckily still able to control the bike :faint:

can they do a simple blind spot check before move off? and what the hurry? hurry to get other killed?? :sian:

A second of precaution is an hour of safety. It never hurts to ask.

its kind of stupid i agree, but if today ur relative is the one in difficulty, and some first aider certified out there doesn't help, u wish to bring them to court too.

Today's stories

1) At 9.55 am, I was driving along Farrer Road from Serene Centre towards Holland Road when the lights adjacent to Empress Road turned red. The Toyota RAV4 L in front of me stopped immediately. I managed to slow down and changed to the next lane. Next thing I knew, she started to eat her sandwich while waiting for the lights to change. I never knew that was her motive!

2)About 9-something this evening, I was riding along Dunearn Road with my wife as pillion from the opp King Albert Park towards Eng Neo Ave when a car came out of one of the bridges! The car almost didn't stop and I had to swerve to the next lane and I horn at that **** driver! My wife had a fright 'cos the bike wobbled a bit.

Ask a cop: Arizona doesn't allow riding motorcycles between cars

Special for The Republic

Nov. 30, 2007 07:47 AM

Question: Although dangerous, is it illegal to "white line," or ride between lanes of traffic on a motorcycle?

Answer: Some people also refer to this as "splitting traffic." It is both dangerous and illegal. Arizona Revised Statutes 28-903 states: "A person shall not operate a motorcycle between lanes of traffic or between adjacent rows of vehicles." Notice how they worded that. Regardless of the lane markings, if you are riding between other cars, you are breaking the law.

The same law also states that the driver of a motorcycle shall not overtake and pass a vehicle in the same lane as that vehicle. This would apply more in moving traffic when, say, a car is turning right and a motorcyclist zips around the car but never leaves the same lane.

The basis for all of this is that, in the opening statement of this particular law, it says that motorcyclists are entitled to the use of a full traffic lane, and that people driving cars around them have to respect their right to have the full lane. So, if motorcyclists are entitled to a full lane they, in return, have to behave like a vehicle using an entire lane.

Incidentally, it is allowable for two motorcyclists to ride next to each other in one lane, but no more than two, and they still aren't allowed to "split traffic."

Sgt. Jim Toomey is a public information officer for the Glendale Police Department.

Imagine what would happen if this was applied to Singapore bikers. :giddy:

i believe it's illegal too in singapore. but they dont really empathise on it. i've read about people getting tickets for that offense before but it's still uncommon here.

anyway, spotted a dead dog at the center median of TPE this afternoon. the dog looks quite big and i think it has been there for awhile as the foul stench was unbearable.

i'd rather have another bag of epok-epok on the road though

First aiders are awarded a 3 year license upon passing the First Aid Course. A first aider has to renew his license by going for short refreher courses, so I suppose those who were first aid trained during secondary school days need not be bounded to help for life by law. This also means the first aider who renders help is more likely to be proficient?

That lane splitting is not illegal in Singapore but u could be penalised for dangerous riding IF you do not do it safely has been argued to the death in this forum. I leave it at that.

Btw EJ, I'm surprised how you managed to smell a bag of crushed Epok Epok. I thought curry-puffs can only be smelled when u hold them close to the nose while savouring them before the bite, or when walking by a Macik at the bus interchange selling big baskets of Epok Epok?

Dun remember when was my last epok epok.. Army days? :offtopic:
