Dear knights,

I wonder if it is normal that my engine can only be started when it is in neutral gear?

Coz what I remember is that as long as clutuched in, any bike can be started no matter what gear it is in.... Or did I remeber wrongly?

you can start bike as long as you clutch in.

Yar when my bike in gear and clutched in, cant start at all. The electric start button has absolutely no effect at all as if it is a dead button. I must return to neutral then can start.

Has anyone encountered this problem before?

is it a safety feature or wad? I do know auto cars are like tat...only neutral gear and some need to step on brake then can start one.

if your bike in gear and clutched in ,but still cant start . it could be the micro switch in the clutch lever up the lorry liao .

I feel it is pretty disadvantage that the bike can only be started in nuetral gear. If the bike stalled on the road or even worse slop, it would be such a hassle to shift to nuetral gear especially when the bike is still moving.:sian:

Anyway thanks chinu, Metalfyre & madman for your replies:bow:

I will go try what metalfyre mentioned.

PKs,

When riding down slope, one way is to clutch in and apply brakes to slow down. But this wears out the clutch plate right?

So if I engage neutral and brake on the down slope.. should be no probs right? Now not clutched in and no clutch plate wear!

Posted

as for me i dont clutch in and use only the brakes only . i will use both the engine brake and the brakes on board :D

clutch in when you going down slope will not wear you clutch plates :D

For those very steep and short down slopes like those in the multi-storey carpark, I will cluch in and apply brakes. The engine sounds like it is under a lot of stress when using engine brake in down slope. I saw from some where in the forum that phantom should not use too much engine brake.

But I think that during rain, LL must use engine brake or else quite dangerous.

Downslope, the balance of clutching in or Engine braking while you apply your brakes is up to your preference, so long as you can control your bike well. Just make sure there are no rushing vehicles behind, and if possible, stay on left lane if you decide to freewheel.

During rainy days, i'd say engine braking is a must, used together with both front and rear (intermittent) braking.

I have the best signature.

Regardless of weather, I use engine brake liberally, on both my ex-phantom & with my current bike.

haha..dude when your bike is stationary, off yr ignition then you clutch in and kick down all the way to gear 1, then up till you find out 5 or 6 gears in total ;)

Posted

i can kick up 4 times only.. when i at highest gear. i try close trottle den i can feel the engine brake pulling the speed to 80 or 70. i am confused also haha.. gear 6 can hit wad speed?

to infinite, and beyond!!! lol jk la, see what you wanna, and also important is how much yr bike can handle ;) some say theirs with some add-ons can go above 140 but i say i let my top be 135km/h would be good enough for my slow angel :cheeky:
