ah chong offered to weld the sprocket to the shaft for now, so i can ride for bout 4 - 6 months while i make money for the overhaul..

hi Replay & Osfar

i happen to post some info about petrol engines and engine overhauls which may interest you... thought it'll be good if you can take a look since both your bikes are going for it soon. click on the "original post" to read the details

Didnt ride for 3 months due to broken ankle, battery was fine, but suggest to disconnect the terminals and cover the bike with a reliable canvas. Battery recharging can be done at motorshops or Petrol stations with Automotive repair workshops (though can take quite long).

3 months ?. thats quite some time ..

btw, is there a need to top up battery water?. any indications?.

For every 7 pounds you lose, you gain one horsepower.

hey PK.

I recently bought a FU Phantom.

Just check about regular maintenaince. EO change(Semi or Fully)? SP change? FORK oil? Service carb? Air Filter?

The Mech from Bike production said that the bike got new piston. So must change EO at 1000km. How to check if really got new piston?

sorry for such qns, i read the thread but really hard to find stuffs.

Thanks!!!

1)Fork oil i think no need to change unless your fork turn soft.

2)carb and air filter u can do it every 10000km

3)Sp for me i change every 2 oil change but i heard frm ppl saying that it can last longer

4) as for new piston... actually its hard to tell. :dozed:

EO is up to individual, i use semi-syn coz i think it is good enough for a phantom's single cylinder 4-stroke air cooled engine. EO change mileage is dependent on "how jockey whack his horse" & "what grass is fed to horse". my riding pattern could get me 2-2.5k km between each change but my fren change at 2k km coz he whacks his horse harder. if use mineral oil, change even earlier. remember that phantom's gearbox also depends on EO. insufficient or bad condition EO may cause gearbox to fall sick... then spend more $$$ liow

i change my spark plug during every EO change, some pp in every 2.

air filter depends.... i open up, see then decide. dirty i change, if not just put back and continue use.

carburettor no need to service (take out, strip and clean) so often, some pp service once in every 10k km (very good liow), some even longer. not as critical as EO for phantom.

normal maintenance no need to change fork oil unless damping effect not effective liow, then change fork seal & fork oil. if only fork seal leaking, change seal and top up oil. no need to waste $$$ otherwise

remember to check your breaking system!!! front & rear brake reservoirs for oil level and also brake pads' & plates & calipers' condition, can also check for air bubbles. bleeding & changing brake fluid is not part of normal maintenance.

other normal maintenance things to check for includes tyre thread & air pressure, chain & sprockets, main/brake/signal lights, horn, etc.

if new piston means your bike recently overhauled... most likely a top overhaul coz don't think motortiams will do full one unless engine darn jia-lat liow. see below thread on what is an overhaul and running-in:

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=164184

remember to do a proper run-in (also called break-in) or you can standby to go back for repairs really soon, even if your piston didn't get jammed.

if more kia-su, change EO (mineral), run-in 500k km, change EO (mineral) again, run-in 500k km, change EO (semi-syn), then ride with peace of mind :thumb:

How to check if really got new piston? sorry this one i buay-hiow. maybe open up and see bah... wahahaha. kidding only

suggest you download the TA200 manual, read it and know your new horse better.

there's also lots of information in other sections such as

. Why pay more?

I want your front fork damper, those which you didnt know were spray-painted :)

By the way, what are you getting?

hmm ehh that depends man, if I'm pushing into shop then those are yours + a lil top up fee..mech labour you cover ;)

aprilla RS ?

cagiva mito ?

sachs madass ??

or vespa ??

:p

never a vespa, Cagiva mito :nono:, madass if I got lots of spare cash to play with, rs 125 I got a friend whom I can be his subrider but I don't wanna be owner..because his bike is close to track bike..any servicing is close to 2a bike and above servicing :giddy: you gotta see and ride to believe..BUT bike is top grade thats what I gotta say..maybe ride to school one day :cheeky:

that bike can fit in hdb flat lifts right?. and can be parked right in your own bedroom.

hah, anyways, why don't you wait for 2a bikes instead jb?.

yes something like my foldable bicycle :p but it can't be folded for this madass.. erm I am waiting for it.. if i were to change to a 2b, few choices, Krr/cbr/wave

since when did jB say he was changing to a 2B bike?

you know me best ;)

I bought mine from there too, the guys above my post has advised you, good luck..for me EO change once a month semi syn, I can't afford fully though it does feel better, they said its about 2k to 3k change and remember you gotta check your eo say weekly and topup.Fork oil unless leaking..Carb once in a blue moon you can wash, Air filter? for me every few months I change once..its performance over distance I'd rather remember..

piston running in? well ride slow..since you just got the bike better get used to it at slow speeds too.. for what I've written above is my own preference..up to you to judge..some cheap things I can change frequently I do, some may think I'm just spending unneccesary

yeah, how to know if it has got new piston?.

mileage?. (will the odometer be reset if new piston is set in?. or only engine overhaul?)

v.dirty EO? (serious black EO in a short time)

loads of vibrations? (compared to other phantom)

For every 7 pounds you lose, you gain one horsepower.

wow.

thanks for that coverage of my questions. Really appreciate.
