Hi guys, was thinking of going down to planet to get these things done. May i know how much are these things gonna cost me per item?

1. Change EO Semi Syn

2. Check and top up brake fluid

3. Check and lub chain (tigthen if loose)

4. Check and change spark plug

5. Check and change brake pads

6. Check and change battery

7. Check and do any tuning if necessary

These things can do yourself one la...maybe brake pad and tuning u dunno how to do or have no tools can get mech to do...the rest...u take around an hour during a bike wash session can do liao...

EO can go buy and change urself...cheap and fast and all you need is a monkey wrench.

Brake fluid can easily check visually wat...why need mech to do? If the fluid needs to be bled or needs topping up, you spend $3-4 on a bottle of brake fluid can change n top up dunno how many times urself...also save $

Chain also can check visually if it's loose or not.

Spark plug can be removed, inspected and replaced with a spark plug tool very easily. Buy for $3-6.

Battery if everyday can start can liao no need to change. If you leave it there for say, 2 days and the bike die then just go buy a battery, remove your seat and replace it yourself.

You say u broke, i give u budget solution. You scared waiting time long, I give you the fastest, no need to wait solution. Don't waste money if you don't have enough asking other people to help you bathe when you have your own hands to do it la. Tio tok only. Phantom supposed to be economical bike that saves us $$ vs public transport. Don't go and make maintaining it so expensive for nothing.

finally changed my both tyres for $140. metzelder. 4 digit code is 3407. so i assume it's quite new...

wow, having a new set of tyres really feel different. feel safer when turning, even on wet roads. but like have that kind of 'floating' feeling in normal riding and lane-changing

i agree. read and learn. i'm from total noob (didn't even know what a spark plug looks like) read here read there, now most of the things i can do myself, excl brake fluid that i have yet to attempt. Heard that the problem is that u must watch out for air bubbles. true?

1. Change EO Semi Syn

$12-15 depending on shop and brand of EO.

2. Check and top up brake fluid

front brakes so obvious o_O rear brakes also obvious.... just remove the right hand side rear chrome cover. Price no idea.

3. Check and lub chain (tigthen if loose)

usually free, else $2 to learn. Its really easy to self tighten, search is your best friend

4. Check and change spark plug

$4 onwards. So many plugs out there, but for Phantom usually $8 max. Unless u insist on iridium.

5. Check and change brake pads

$12+ for "stock", front and back $24+

6. Check and change battery

no idea

7. Check and do any tuning if necessary

usually complimentary with any general servicing of bike

If other than change EO the rest just check only no need to replace, how much will i be charged just for the check.

usually if never change, just look, no charges. If they insist to charge u, $2-4 dollars tuition fees standard.

If i reach there at abt 3pm is the waiting time very long?

Usually if its chicken feed things like change EO, the mechanic will take few mins off to help u. If u need a full checkup, wait lor. Lunch, saturday and after 5pm is known to be super peak timings.

Will it be better to get it done at ah koon? cause i actually west side heh..

Try, and see who u trust, then keep going back lor

lol normanlai thx very much for the details

Yup at the end lf the day will learn how to maintain the bike by myself. But since its my 1st servicing i feel its better to pay to get a pro to do it while i be monkey and watch. better than i screw myself over by making stupid mistakes.

There's this really helpful step-by-step thread on bleeding the brakes. Go search for it. It's not hard, really. All you need is a cloth (or two if you're really messy), the small clear rubber hose you use in fish tanks, and a container for the fluids to drain out. You'll be able to see if there are any air bubbles through the clear tube as you bleed the brakes. As long as you keep the fluid in the reservoir above the minimum level as you bleed the brakes, air shouldn't enter the system.

Welcome.

Most of the maintainence for the phantom is pretty simple. I can't imagine how one can go wrong performing tasks like an oil change or a plug change. Ultimately, it's your bike. You won't want a complacent mech to screw it up doing a job you can easily do by rounding your nuts or scratching something, right? Have some pride in your bike and belief in yourself. A lot of people always say 'dunno how to do la...pay money let professional do suah'. I know coz I was once like that. After kana many chop on my carrot head then I learn, and learning this hard way is something I'd like everyone in this forum to avoid...which is why I take time off to share what little technical expertise I can in the hopes I save you folk money and heartache. Be confident and just try. You never try, you'll never ever learn how to do it. Even if you make a mistake, all those things you folk asked 'how to do' won't make your bike die and require an expensive overhaul. At most, you get spilled engine oil or brake fluid etc.

It's not cheaper to do your bikes in JB hor. They get their parts from SG. Go figure.

Again, phantom maintainence is pretty straightforward. No TPS to clean, no need to calibrate 4 friggin cylinders, no electronics to mother....etc. It's a simple, relatively bulletproof bike.

It's not cheaper to do your bikes in JB hor. They get their parts from SG. Even malaysian big bikers come here for parts all the way from places like Malacca and KL...instead of back home or JB. Go figure.

Ps: I realise that this thread title seems weird to me, "PK Official- Questions for Newbie "

so its questions to newbies and not from newbies?

hehe sorry just wondering :cheeky: maybe thats what made those newbies flood phantom thread with NEW "help me!" posts because of this title.

oh, that can be really hard with all the taxis on the road... and p-plate class 3s are equally scary too.

erm, ya me too. racewerks motors currently having offer for EO? but i need to know where to get a 'monkey wrench' and how it looks like.

+ need to know where to dispose the Used EO.

Tink if i keep changing EO myself, i can save quite alot. =)
