Mine is TA200. The starter motor like can't crank the engine at all. But after i rode around for abt 10 mins. Either because the Engine warmed or the batt charged it was all back to normal... then the rest of today the issue nv resurfaced.

 

Spark plug change and a carb cleaning will solve this problem?

 

Bro, from what you describe, your batery may be going to 'kong off'. Do a load test, if not sure get the shop to check it for you. :)

Bro, from what you describe, your batery may be going to 'kong off'. Do a load test, if not sure get the shop to check it for you. :)

 

Yup wanna go do a servicing liao... Most likely going this Wednesday morning to Planet. Although the previous owner say 1600 then need to change E.O. now @ 1000+ i see like the E.O. quite dirty liao so wanna change.. (but not really sure how den considered dirty... lol) will get the battery checked, brake fluid topped up and change the spark plug.

 

What are Planet's and Ah Khoon's opening hrs ar

planet opens at about 9am , and koon slightly later at about 9.30am.

 

there's an alternative also, try bikeworks , can anyone provide the address cos i haven't been there before.

 

and those of you who are looking for cheaper and more reasonable repairs i personally think planet is not bad, even though koon is 3 mins ride away from my office(i've had a bad experience).

 

i think its the alternator that konks off, it happened to mine too and i got it changed at planet.

hi guys,

 

Got e same prob of starting my 2nd hand TA200 every morning be it if it is a wet/dry day-suspect cold engine. But prob is that i gonna pull e choke always for every start-which i understand can b unhealthy, rite? Prev owner address this prob to me in advance. So i did my svc at planet, change my EO to full sync, NGK plug and batt replacement. Nil carb wash cos Dr. Chong dun recomend.

 

Also to add on, once i nv ride on that day i will start my bike in e morning but same prob surface on e same evening. Nil 2nd start prob if i ride it to work.

Usually, I will need to do this 1) pull choke 2) electric crack->engine start 3)push in choke 4) start to throttle a few time to keep engine idle. If engine rev maintain i idle it for 2-5 mins before i ride on it.. so guidance?:giddy:

heard recently or sth there was a harley rider from abroad who came over and dunno died in an accident here or sth is it? recently in the news or sth.

sounds like the problem i had in the past. a few possibilities for u to try

 

1. bump up your idle, use the idle knob. use search if u have no idea what i'm talking about.

 

2. check the air filter if its dirty, u didn't say u changed air filter.

 

3. When your bike can finally idle, does it die off easily at junctions, or does the idle sound disturbingly unstable and inconsistent even after warmed up. Tighten all the links to the carburator, check air filter.

 

if you don't know what i'm talking about in all 3 suggestions, dun try anything funny, take it to motordiam.

Quoting the grandmaster:

Phantom EO very fast turn brown. if you changed semi, service before 2k, if u change fully, change before 4k (max), But seriously, Semi is decent enough for everyday relaxed riding(note: not racing, riding)

 

Phantom's longevity depends on EO. U screw up such a simple thing, dun be shocked if u need to overhaul this and that within a year or less.

 

Fully utilised EO looks like Kopi O with no sign of goldness. Go by mileage best, or else u can go by the heat at your right side ankle. If u can feel the heat thru your jeans, its almost time. The oil has become too "thin".

 

If u can always feel hot air thru your jeans, change brand of EO.

 

my personal experience:

when u fill make sure u put in 1.2L Buy another bottle to do that, or if the shop got extra they would accomodate. Its better to have mixed brands (if u have to) at 1.2L, rather than 1L of the best EO. Dunno how to explain, but i've had 3 EO change already, really got difference.

My post was not meant to scare you, in fact, if i made u frantic, i apologise and hope u calm your nerves. As long you have EO in there, and u dun go and race your phantom, it will not give up.

 

Keep your EO level at min 1 litre (dipstick= cross cross pattern must be covered) top up as and when necessary, Dun go and drag the mileage thinking u saved money. U can buy cheap sparkie, u can avoid washing bike, u can dun wax, u can pump 92 ron, u can use all the non authetic parts, but EO mileage cannot save. (take note, mileage, not brand or price)

 

hope my 2 cts worth of advice quoted from grandmaster will save u 2 grand in the long run :)

 

for shops that open till late, search for racewerks or unique. both are advertisers. different part of the island.

 

note: according to grandmaster, valid for cars too, esp those made in Thailand. he was cussing the car salesman for telling him to change EO at 10k, say dunno where he learn from one.. haha

Prob always e starting part esp after e engine is cold. Neither does it die off at junctions or does its idling sounds unstable.

Anyway, jus to update u guys that i hv e same prob again after i knock off fm work earlier. Its like pulling of choke on my baby cold engine is mandatory for now.. Even ah pek FU plate started faster than my FY baby.. vroom~ he goes n i m still warming up my baby.. haha...o_O

tuning and idling knob is not very closely related.One is air-fuel mixture and the other is your idling.You can do your own tuning(left side of bike) or let your mech do it..the idling knob is the black star(right side)

but actually tuning is necessary only for performance bike,not recommended if my bikes running fine right?

tuning will affect your fuel efficiency and throttle response...so no it is not just for performance bikes, unless you believe that non-performance bikes can run on crappy FC and lousy throttle response.

ok, this is my suggestion based on your info.

 

1. Check s/plug and air filter, replace if necessary.

2. Service your carb. and change the neccessary seal and gasket.( There's posibility that your carb. jet and C.O. adjuster (air mixture screw) is dirty with green sludge. So it need to be properly cleaned

3. Tune it up, ride for couple of days and get it re-tuned.

ok, this is my suggestion based on your info.

If the problem is the idle is horrible, maybe the slow jet is clogged. he didn't mention poor performance when trying to accl, so i presume the main jet is fine.

 

Air filter, unless K & N or whatever aftermarket filter, cannot wash, must replace.

 

i think he did mention plugs were changed.

 

 

If you are not in a hurry, or the bike performs ok for now, try Pumping 3-4 full tanks of Caltex. For phantom 1 full tank takes u abt 300km. Maybe its just placebo, but my bike felt smoother after 4 full tanks of Caltex, then went back to Shell. i read somewhere that you need at least 1000km of techron to get the benefits of the cleaning. Same price, free cleaning, try lor?

 

 

ps: with the info provided, my gut feeling is, change air filter, ask the mechanic to tune, and pump caltex for a while. always start w e cheapest.
