just done washing bike, and... broke a screw...

took the aluminium casing covering the driving sprocket out to clean... when putting back, overtighten the top screw... screw me!

luckily it broke with a small piece jutting out... still able to use a plier to grip and turn the broken piece out... if not, more headache...

will be heading to Planet tmr to see if ah chong got one lying around... if my luck runs out, anyone know where to get one of these "speciality" screws?

how about asking a friend of yours to help you, ride slowly in first gear while he squat/walk beside you to trace where the sound is coming from? Let him know when you hear it. We can't help diagnose with sounds because it can come from anywhere and everybody's "JIJI" sounds different. Anyway it could just be your chain's sound.

got sound wan meh...??? :faint:

anyways, KnightDragon, it's quite hard to diagnose base on ur description... i've had what could have been classified as "jiji" sound on my bike due to:

- crash bar against frame (clutch in -> less vibration -> no sound)

- the metal base plate of the box rubbing against the bracket (all the way)

- poorly lubed chain (all the way)

couple of days ago, overtighten one bolt and broke it... had to ride without the heavy aluminium piece that covers the driving sprocket... the chain does make some sort of "jiji" sound also when turning over the sprocket with driving force applied... when clutch in, no more... haha...

hehe.. Phantom's famous for having alot of 'musical' sounds. It can't be overly bad.. I always get use to such weird 'new' sounds after a while.

Unless you're talking abt some tell tale sounds, such as 'loose chain clanging sound'. Then gotta be careful.

NO!!!!! :faint: don't use WD-40 to lube ur chain! quite a bit of argument on whether or not it damages the o-rings... BUT confirm is: it does not lube ur chain!

WD-40 is a very good de-greaser... and it will do that on ur chain, stripping away all grease, lube... WD-40 is also very light and flings off easily when u ride... so what's left? a dry chain, metal on metal! pls use proper chain lube (e.g. Maxima, PJ1, etc) or even EO... personally, if left only with WD-40 and spent EO, i'll choose the spent EO...

for the crash bar, what i do is spray a bit of chain lube on where it is screwed onto the frame of the bike...

Posted

oh my.. you use WD-40 to 'lube' your chain? pls buy a proper chain lube.. cheap cheap also better than WD-40.. if got money get maxima, if not.. i use repsol chain lube.. few $ only..

Bro you should lub after each time you wash your bike & chain.

- Use De-greaser to clean chain - get from LAB abt $6

- Then apply chain lub - PJ1 from LAB at abt $7

if it is like tak tak tak sound could be your chain too tight or just tightened... will go off in a few days time..

if not just head on down to get your chain inspected and tightened for free at planet :)

FYI for all - when you go down to planet for repairs on your phantom, you can discuss with ah chong to suit your budget.

there are 2 types of repairs - repair till showroom quality & repair just enough to ride on..

for phantom i recommend you to choose the second if you are on a tight shoestring budget as long as it doesn't compromise your safety..

and for those who don't know the prices for towing, ah chong charges $20-25 for towing to his shop to be settled together with the repair charges..

just don't go down to orange shop for repairs - it will cost you at least 30% more and 2-3 days longer to finish any medium like repairs and problems..

ha - count on it - towing service is till about 11.30pm latest. next morning 8am earliest..that is if you want normal price..

if 24 hour towing - will be at $50 minimum. dont be crazy and just leave your bike by the pavement for towing the next day.

its not legal but prepare 2 socks in your box just in case TP or LTA comes by so you can cover it...

i once put blue spotlights on my crashbar before but the circuit got damaged cos of heavy heavy rain..removed it to prevent further issues..
