Dear Phantom Singaporean Bikers,

I'm a Phantom TA200 biker in Vietnam. I really would like to receive your valuable advise about my case. Thank you so much in advanced.

I have just replaced my current spark plug (original one, part number NGK-DPR8EA_9) by the new one. Unfortunately, I have not found the correct origin part number one. One seller here in Vietnam suggested that I can use the similar one, namely NGK-D6EA.

Thus I really want to receive your advice whether I can use NGK-D6EA for my bike, and whether it is harmful to the operation of the engine or decreasing the speed.

Your swift advice will be high appreciated.

Thanks.

personally, i would not use a spark plug of a different heat rating than the manufacturer specified one... D6EA is two ratings "hotter" than DPR8EA, better not take the risk? anyway, not sure of the situation in Vietnam, but if you can, try to get from another motorshop or seller...

Like harley sound right?

Go planet change your air valve/intake. Cost $65. If never change ah chong say will spoil engine. I still miss the sound though =(

Thank you very much for your prompt advice. I think I will re-install the old spark plug and try to find the another seller.

Btw, do you know if we can use the iridium racing spark plug for Phantom TA200. I searched in NGK and found that the Iridium racing-IXU01 is able to be plugged into Phantom TA200. I don't know there is anyone in Singapore to use the a.m iridium racing one. If possible , pls tell me the major difference with the original one.

Thanks,

I used iridium plugs for phantom before. but not sure if it is the racing type... anyways, to be frank, i cannot feel too much difference leh... and i have also heard that there isnt a need to install such a good plug. In fact, a normal plug should do just fine. hope this helps. :)

My experience with iridium on my ta200 wasn't good... Gave me a whole host of problems and I couldn't put my finger on why. Switch back to stock and they all went away...

I was also told that no point using iridium plugs as it is costlier over platinum but not much benefit over it in our TA200 engines... however, I do believe that the sharper tip used in platinum/iridium plugs compared to conventional plugs will have better firing properties (easier to fire) due to the surface charge density...

alamak...but why???

the iridium plugs claims..this and that and it cant work in a simple bike...

well thats all hype....??? for a little improvement????

so the moral o the story dont just believe what is written or claimed...the best is still dont be a guinea pig... incidentally we all are..at one time or another..

aiya bro, why so many question marks... not happy also no need like that ma...

i'm not saying iridium plug does not work ok... most if not all improvements to a particular product will have diminishing rate of return... as you go up the scale, the cost will be much higher for lesser improvements.

why does a "sharp" tip fire better? it is due to the higher surface charge density and a resulting higher E-field strength near the tip. put it in practical terms, you need less potential difference to cause a dielectric breakdown (which creates the spark) at the tip. i don't need the manufacturer's claim or marketing material to teach me this.

if sharp tip is so good, why does "conventional" plugs have flat tip? each time a spark occurs, it will take out a miniscule amount of material out of the tip. with rare metal electrodes, the rate of corrosion is much lesser (which is why those plugs can last longer milage). a conventional plug with a sharp tip will not be able to take the torture to be practically viable. so, you have a flat tipped, low cost and work-as-it-should "conventional" spark plug.

in the TA200 context, i just don't think the bike can harvest the improvements provided by the iridium plugs over platinum plugs. in the end, it's ur money. you want to get whatever plugs you like, go ahead. i'll be fine with my existing.

maybe my understanding is wrong all the while. correct me where i'm wrong. thanks.

hahha...i am not using the Irridium plugs..but wondering why it could not work on the phantom....

???? this means i am no genius ma..dont mistaken it for unhappiness..always looking out for your posts bro....it has been verry inormative.

wow...your electronics fantastic man...thank you for the lesson..

hope for more free lessons in fututre..thank you

kill switch....

long long ago...somebody ask ..does this hurt the engine if used too often???

well i search the internet and couldnt find the answer...

just the other day i was looking at the electrical wiring (wiring diagram) of a bike

and the answer is stariing at my face....

when you press the switch....the high tension voltage(the spark voltage) is grounded..

that simple.....

happy new year and a prosperous one too.......drink and ride...yeah only fruit juices if u want to ride....

Yeah interested to know too! to me it sounds like it doesn't make a difference haha

the killswitch diverted the spark voltage to ground..ie nothinghappens..the high tension voltage (about 12000v i think) doesnot reach the sparkplug...thus the engine is"killed"...will it hurt??? i dont think so...

but forgetting to reset the switch...u will drain yourbattery in trying to start the engine...

Interesting. I always shut off my engine by flipping the switch. Have been doing this for years. I leave it off until the next time I need to start the engine, sometimes for 3~4days. Never had problems starting subsequently.

Sweeet... lol i also have been doing that since i got my bike. As a very minor deterance against theft or joy riders also... If nv check, those kukus will be wondering why cannot start... But i also kanna a couple of times. Crank and crank how come dun start.. bloody hell kill switch. :D

Hi All,

my speedometer's light no longer lights up, anyone know how much will it cost to replace the bulb and/or check the wiring?
