The RSV is a real understated machine. Pity it isn't so popular here in S'pore.

Just wanted to say that one of the main reasons I own a Ducati Superbike is that there simply aren't alternatives in the v-twin category. Would have gone for the RSV if I had the after-sales assurance.... and Jap v-twins simply don't measure up in terms of handling.

When I was younger I was obsessed with power and speed. And the sheer stats made me in love with the ZX-11.

Later came looks,... (thats why I cannot stand the hyabusa its the fastest out there but also win the fugly contest hands down too.

Now I come over to handling and comfort,... having a bad back I now choose for many reasons, and not just one thing like looks or speed. As most litre class sportbike are just flat up in the stupid range for acceleration.

Ironically a sport bike is more comfortable to ride (in riding position ) than a cruiser. Mainly because a cruisers riding position makes you slouch on longer rides.

And on a sportbike your body is sitting in the shape of a triangle and it takes the load off your back.

I personally prefer 90 degree v twins, like the super hawk, or the sv1000, either standard or the s model. As vtwin sport bikes have a personality, they not as fast (top end) as a inline 4,... but they are torque monsters, in the twisties (with two equal riders) a twin will walk away from a inline 4 like its not even there. The torque curve on these bikes are flat across the rpm range like a V-8. Simply translated, if you crack on too much gas pretty much anywhere in the RPM band, youll loft the front end, vtwins provide a much more forgiving ride, because the motor is so torquey. Not to mention that deep baratone rumble is intoxicating.

Inline 4s are more RPM oriented. To do things right in an inline 4 you need to be at the right speed vs RPM, to create the right amount of power for the moments condition, hence an inline 4 rider shifts alot more, where as the vtwin rider spends more time enjoying the ride and having fun, and just playing with the gas.

Inline 4s and sport vtwins are both blazingly fast, and the inline 4s are the fastest in straight line acceleration with out a doubt! Both model types are fun and I would ride just about anything on two wheels.

For me,... the Vtwin sport bikes win hands down for me. The combination of interstellar handling (which most bikes have nowadays), and that torquey motor, and last but definately not least is that monstrous window shaking rumble coming out the back end just inspires throttle play!

If you read the cycle world reviews on the 600 shootout that included the sv1000 and the sv650. Ironically all the cycle world test riders got up early, racing to work to be the ones able to ride the SV that day. They said it was just so much fun. And they ranked them both the highest out of all the bikes for being a sheer pleasure to ride.

So yes, I would be riding a SV1000,... that is unless my wife makes me get a gold wing. Then Ill have to learn how to stay awake while riding from the nearly numb ride ill be getting.

Ill start this by saying this:

Any modern sportbike (2002 and newer) 600cc or above, "YOU WILL NEVER USE ALL POTENTIAL THE BIKE OFFERS ON THE STREET PERIOD".

With torque and horsepower numbers at astonishing rates on new sportbikes, any 600cc bike made by Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Ducati, or Triumph will be more than enough for ANY rider. I personally choose 600cc bikes over liter bikes due to the handling and power balance. Most people will never ride any bike they own to its full potential unless they have a racing background or 20+ years of street riding pushing bikes to the edge.

The only reason people buy 1000cc (liter) bikes for the street is for prestige. "I have a fast bike that Ill never get to fully ride on the street". Thats all I have to say about that.

I do respect everyones opinion as "your" opinion but I have to disagree on the 600CC is enough. I ride a hayabusa, not for prestige nor the "baddest in the land." I ride it because its comfortable (lowered) great powerband in any gear/rpm and doesnt sacrifice anything with a passenger. We have to face reality, although I love gixxers and zxs, they are twisty bikes and unless you live in areas where theses conditions exist, well then you have it for the prestige thing. Lets just all agree that we love our bikes because they are OUR bikes not " I got my bike for bling.

I agree with you deardorff. I tend to get in over my head on a smaller cc (500 or less) bike than I would on a 600cc or higher. Small bikes give great confidence because you can thrash them around so much easier. I also agree that the SV1000S is a good liter bike, but its only going to offer you the speed of say a 636 Kawi or a 750 Suzuki. The V bike gives you better power management which leads to a better riding experience.

Inline 4 sportbikes offer hairy torque curves no matter what CC you choose. The powerbands are usually like Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde. They are managable down low but get into the 8K and higher range and they are downright extreme.

Hands down the best fun to be had on a sport type bike would be an SV650S. Great handling, torquey feel, and light enough to flick around. I love riding SVs and would take a SV1000S anyday over my GSXR600. But even the SV1000S seems like overkill for regular street riding.

I've had a slight change of heart. The litre Italian sportsbikes are still on my list, but i'm gonna put that on hold for a year or two and get a 600cc jap sportsbike in the meantime. Something i can flog around the track and polish up my skills with first.

Yes, i've been bitten by the track bug.

If i ever get a 1000cc bike, it'd be an Aprilia RSV hands down.. Not because i think it handles well, it's very fast, lots of power etc.

Simply because i like it.. I'm not a racer.. I like how the bike looks.. If i ever buy it, it'll be cause i can afford it and secondly, enjoy riding it knowing i afforded it..

They don't exist. All of them went to heaven after 1-2 years. :D

i certainly go for best handling..which means comfort when riding sportsbike.

my opinion is, generally all sportbikes are built to have power, speed and appealing outlook.

So no matter what sportsbike model u are riding. for sure u have this quality.

of course they will have a difference in torque and power by a certain margin.

But does it really matter for us average riders.Commuting in s,pore..once a while riding the north east highway. and some riders like thrills and move to racing tracks.

Does it matter if u have the fastest bike??we are not racers like those proffesionals.

What we want is a bike that suits us very well and its beauty as well..

Don forget sportsbike is also yr 2nd wife.its the same of how u choose your human wife too..coz Beauty Lies from The Beholder.

Haha, originally intended to break in my cls 2 riding life wif an SV650. Sadly, its a relatively rare and unappreciated bike in SGP, hence the lack of supply here. I wasnt able to get any ideal offers ard for the SV650 that fits into my budget ($ was the priority then, as it is still now), so when i met a seller (now a gd fren) trying to liquidate his well kept GSX750F katana cheaply for tuition fees, i immediately grabbed it. No regrets til now, but i still do wonder how it would be like if i had gotten the V-twin instead...

oh well, i'm still dying to get my hands on a V-twin (preferably the SV) but for now i am loving every minute with the katana.

So i guess for me, the choice of my sportsbike (sports tourer actually) is actually more of a lucky opportunity that fits my pocket. Its the 'feel' of not only the bike, but also of the way u chance upon the bike and how u take to the seller.

I guess it's obvious from the polls: thrill, looks, handling.

These are definitely the mark of a sportsbike.

And agree that suzuki sucks when making their sportbikes look nice...what a pity though.

For suzuki, its either u love the looks or hate it. At 1st me also disgusted by the looks but somehow it grows on me. Ended up i bought a K6 for myself. Have ridden a Yamaha and Honda litre sprotsbike before but still love the Suzuki raw power.

maintaince for all is the same ma.....

big bike all the maintaince is abt the same.... onli honda parts are more durable.. n yamaha is the worst.....

my list of sports is either honda or suzuki

I think continental bike servicing should be of different ba. Imagine Ducati Aprilia go workshop.

To be in SG i think practical is most important. As in performance and reliability. Thats why i need assurance and got CBR1994

to me imo

i would say it's confortability during long rides

i always up down from jurong to tampines n vise versa

i used to own a cbr600 now i own a hayabusa

the sportbike cbr600 it rather stressing my back area so i decided to go for a bit more confort ride but not a tour bike as usually tour bike are just too bulky .... my choices are either a blackbird or hayabusa ..... in the end hayabusa was my choice coz i can't find a carb blackbird at the time. fyi till now the fi prob still not reslove in blackbird if i'm not wrong ....

there goes ... my choice ... confort riding

Past to present rides

Honda nsr sp 150 pro arm

Honda super4 ver s - yamaha rxz 135

Honda cbr 600 rr

Suzuki hayabusa 1300 - yamaha cygnus 125 - yamaha lc135 spark

Aprilia sr max 300 I.e
