In the beginning my X8 can get arnd 300+ but now only abt 250+ before the light on. It depends on wat petrol u pumped and how is ur riding style. If u ride with pillion also adds up.

Hi, I am intending to get a scooter for transportation. I went to Ubi yesterday afternoon, went to many shops to ask for X8. Reason being that X8 is big enough for my size. Got a few questions to ask the laojiaos

1 one shop say $8500 on road. good buy?

2 max speed really cannot go more than 120kmh?

3 is it feasible and comfortable for just transport purposes?

4 one shop keep telling me the cons of X8 and intro me to SYM gts200. saying SYM is better. Any opinions?

5 maintainance of X8 expensive? I am not a cheongster btw.

Thank you

Hi beachboyzsg,

With regards to your queries :

1) $8,500 is average price, if you do not need the bike in hurry, you can go to other shops. You can go to X9 page to look where Kenny bought his bike, it seems that place is the cheapest.

2) I have not tried the max speed, but I think it is around there

3) It is a good bike for transportation, but 1 thing to note, the fuel consumption is quite high, and Piaggio parts are quite expensive

4) Why don't you list down the cons of X8 that the shop told you and we being riders of X8 can verify if it is true.

5) Maintenace and servicing of auto scooter is also more expensive than manual bikes. If you compare Piaggio scooters to other brands of scooters, then it is about the same.

Generally, based on my own opinion, there is no perfect bike in this world. You may like certain features in 1 bike but you may like certain features in another bike. Buy according to your budget and your personal likeness for the bike. For X8 you can test ride at Piaggio Service Centre, for GTS I am not sure. You can see in the X9 forum, some of the X9ers encounter problems with their bikes, but they still love their bikes and try all ways to solve the problem.

Hi X8ers,

I was thinking maybe we can organise a bike-wash cum meet-up outing. So we kill 2 birds with one stone. Based on namelist, seems most of us staying North-East. Anyone know anywhere got free water for washing? :cheeky:

Hi busytiger,

I am thinking of buying X8 as I think I trust italian bike better than taiwan bike. Please advise otherwise, as I am open to any suggestions.

About the shop, he told me

1 SYM is built for the asian market. Parts are cheaper.

2 The buttons are all on the handlebar not on the body. Made easy to access.

3 Got compartment in the storage space not like X8.

4 Brake light are LED lights. Cheaper to change than X8.

5 Box provided my SYM is bigger than X8

6 Able to fix FOG lights on SYM

7 SYM only $7300.

8 the back rest for the rider can be adjusted.

9 SYM timing belt can last longer than X8.

Plus much more...actually I wanted to buy X8 then...until the shop keep telling me otherwise. Now I am quite lost.

Hi beachboyzsg, welcome to the X8 cafe. Hope u join us soon. All i can advise to u is to follow your gut instinct. Salesman will only tell u the pros of the item they want u to buy but never the cons of it. So see for yourself and judge for yourself ..... cheers :cheer:

hi, the problem now is not the money. But this is the first time I am buying a 1st hand bike. Last time, which was 5-6 years ago, I used to ride a KTM 125 and then in army bought a FXR for $200. Which 2 bikes gives me so much problems.

As last time no license at home to ride la. Buy with own money and park far away. Now different story liao, mother loan me money to buy, got license from government and home liao. So thinking of a comfort bike so that can ride mother jalan jalan too.

One more question, I am 27 yo, 6 year class 2b license. Insurance for X8 about how much ar? One shop tell me 600+, and another shop say 300+ all comprehensive insurance.

BTW can I say the name of the shop out? Think not advisable to just say the name of the shop ar.

You can only compare if they are giving you the same insurances company. Different company different rates.

Hi beachboyzsg, I've been riding X8 for 10 mths now and i can say its very comfortable with lots of storage space. The X8 is used for both work and leisure.

For the insurance, its difficult to compare unless u noe which policy is it from and wat is the coverage.

Hi beachboyzsg,

Since u mention u already trust Italian bikes, I think your heart has already decided for X8, but the salesman has put some doubts in you right? :cheeky:

I suggest u go to Piaggio Service Centre to test drive the X8 to convince yourself again. hee hee .....with regards to your queries :

1) For SYM parts, I am not sure if it is cheaper than X8, you can go to bike shops recommended in this forum to compare the prices.

2) For X8, all the buttons are also on the handlebar.

3) Yes, X8 got no compartment....but did u ever think if u got bigger items how do put inside the SYM if there are comparments? subject to individual

4) How often will your brake light blow? Unless every month once then :giddy:

5) I don't think the box on SYM is much bigger than X8, maybe slighty bigger only lah. Since u ride KTM before, I am sure you are used to riding without box right?

6) Is fog light an important item for you? unless you travel to Malaysia at night often.

7) Yes this is the only important difference between SYM and X8

8) The back rest for X8 is strategically placed for the pillion, it is placed near the shoulder portion, very comfortable for pillion.

9) Timing belt depends on rider style, there are people who can go 20,000km, there are people whose belt break at 9,000KM.

I must say although X8 is not a perfect bike, but based on my opinion, only point 7 is the real deciding factor for you to choose between SYM & X8. Maybe u can ask if the SYM bike shop allow you for test drive? so you can compare the difference.

Thank you so much for you advice busy tiger. I actually went down to piaggion service centre today afternoon. Got the test ride the blue colour X8. Seriously speaking, I am very very impressed with the smoothness of X8. Quiet, stable....i cannot find more words to say how good i felt on the bike.

One last question, so paiseh ar, too many questions liao. Ar I find the X8 pillion seat smaller than the X9....with all your experience...a bit bigger size pillion seat on will be comfy or not ar?

I must really thank you for your advice. I think i will settle for the bike on Monday straight.

Thank you very very much.

Hope to join your X8 club to know more about the bike next time when I get the bike.
