Woohoo!! This thread is still alive! Yay!

I promised pictures of my Project C70 abt a year ago.. so here they are finally! Lol, better late than never rite? Actually I procastinated on the last phase of constructing a wooden crate as a box till I gave it up eventually.. coz of my FYP no time.. oh well~

Anyway here are the pics! Hope that it will be of use to pple who is attemptin to DIY spray their bikes. Pictures speak a thousand words after all XD

Apologies that I'm nt gonna b as thorough wif my explanations as my Project SP last time though. In case anyone's interested in a white SP, look up my ancient but comprehensive threads on DIY-in a Honda SP

The shiny new exhaust was juz changed before this photo was taken coz it's really fallin apart and posed as a riding hazard. The wind shield, headlight, mirrors and back signal lights were later replaced as part of the project

Masking and Spraying Stages

Masking the original bike to spray a layer of white first. If the surface you are spraying on is not lacquered, you could save some time and juz mask and spray. Otherwise, SAND away the lacquer first! I could show you quite a few pics of the paint peel disaster with my windshield coz I tot I could get away with not sanding..

After that its the other colors layer after layer. By a 'layer', I mean abt 3 thin coats of the same color. Minimum 3 coats is recommended by the masters, but I feel its juz a guideline. If you're broke, go for 2

There is abit of planning involved if you're doin 3 colors like me. I sprayed the darker colors first, mask them, den sprayed the lighter colors, so that any spraying errors can be more easily corrected

http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/ad29/yanxln/sbf/maskstages4.jpg

For the black border, I juz made it the same thickness of the one-inch width masking tape at hand, so I dun need to tink so much, haha

Lacquer

http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/ad29/yanxln/sbf/fpart2.jpg

I can't be sure coz it's been a year.. but I think I put abt 4 coats of lacquer in the pics above, den use hairdryer blow. I was doin it at night coz I'm actually rushing for time.

What I did is NOT advisable. At least, you should lacquer and dry it in the DAY. There are alot of advice from the masters about this, some say 4 coats at 15 min intervals, some say muz wait 45 mins after every coat, and some say muz spray den leave it in the sun.

Some basic truths remain - Hot is good when drying lacquer, and spraying too thick a coat of lacquer will produce tiny bubbles that ruin your paintwork. And NEVER spray more than 2 coats of PYLOX lacquer if you're aiming for a white bike, coz PYLOX laquer is faintly yellow in color. Go through the horror stories of my white sp for more details.

Touch-Up

I dunno about others but in all my projects, I make mistakes. It's especially true in this one, since I was in a rush n tend take shortcuts leadin to disasters. Luckily, the golden safety net to fall back on in DIY spray is that in the bigger picture, some wayward spray isn't gonna have a big impact on the overall bike outlook. Mistakes that matter, on the other hand, can be easily covered up to the point that they don't XD

Here you can see some touch ups of yellow and red resulting in the destruction of the black border

Here you can see that the line is now clean and nice

Another example of a chui black border

http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/ad29/yanxln/sbf/touched4.jpg

Another example of magic

The magic wand in this case is none other than the Black Marker, lol. I could've tot of other more quality ways to do damage control, but I was too lazy. Nevertheless, it works well enough in the big picture, dun you tink? Now I can spray my damage control of the red, yellow and blue wif ease and juz color the excesses with a black marker. Of coz, your design also determines the type of methods you can use to salvage your artwork, but I tink DIY always requires a streak of improvisation.

Bros, I am in the midst of overhauling my C90. I am replacing a cracked bloc and managed to find a preowned piece in good condition. May I know where I can buy the piston and get the block right sized? Thanks in advance for any good advise.
