just wondering what's the best way to improve fuel consumption on my ride.

hypothetically speaking, if everything else being constant, will the different fuel type affect fuel consumption? if yes, in what way?

examples of fuel type for Shell; V-power, 98, 95.

one logical way would be to maintain constant speed at expressway and throttle less at high speed.

Generally speaking, the octane rating of a fuel will not affect power or fuel consumption at all. They will be the same. Actually, you could expect slightly better fuel consumption with lower octane fuel (assuming your engine can use it) because the octane boosters added to petrol have less energy per unit volume than does petrol. So, the boosters provide less "oomph" and they are a larger percentage of the petrol in high octane petrol. But again, the difference is very small and probably would not be noticed in regular driving.

avoid urban riding try hitting expressway as much as possible

if u ride into an area with alots of traffic lights where u tend to start and stop too many times it will use up alot of petrol compare to expressway or long long distance travelling :thumb:

Hi,

Just wondering any good fuel to pump in sg? i mean...recommended fuel type la...quality,value-for-money etc...been trying a few;esso, shell,SPC etc. just wanna get the best fuel for my bike..thanks!

I think the only way you can know this is to test various fuels in your bike. For example I have found that Shell 98 provides the best cold start properties for my bike. When warm, all the fuels behave the same but when my bike is cold, Shell seems to run smoothest with the least amount of hesitation.

I second this. My experience with various types of fuel thru'out my few years of riding (KTM, Super4 Vtec 1 and Wave), I personally find that Shell 95/98 and Caltex 95/98 offers the smoothest ride. Its just the kind of riding experience that you'll feel good as compared to others e.g. SPC. You just feel a bit funny here and there, e.g. noisy engine, no pick-ups or slightly higher fuel consumption. That's my two cents wroth.

Ride slow & steady on roads. Don't drag your gears. Clutch in from far when you see a red light @ the junction near to you. Will cause a bit of a free wheeling. But doesnt use up your engine braking.

Kick up to higher gear faster, for eg. u're travelling @ 60km/h, but u're @ gear 6. No power here though.

Juz my 2 cents worth.

THanks for seconding me in the Petronas mileage.

Yep, V-Power is great but only if pump in M'sia ah as cheap2. S'pre v-power is kinda expensive ah even though its cleaner, less impurities. :cheeky:

hahaa.. last sat i was so suay... i mis-calculated my bike petrol, in the end my bike stalled after i rode pass the Sg Custom and have to push all the way over to msia.. lucky got one very kind msia malay guy riding sg bike, he asked me what happened and offered to help me 'engine-push' my bike over the causeway...

from msia custom i pushed to Shell, pump a V-power 19litres for my S4, cost me RM44.. keke... but then the mileage not that good compared to Formula F1..

Actually i find Caltex and Shell quite good also. When idiling the time the engine sounds smooth and then there's power when accelerating. I too also pump esso, but i still prefer to pump shell and caltex.

Occationally pump v-power to clean engine. Usually go for 98 if poor then 95 :)

i heard about dropping moth balls (white ones) into the fuel tank will improve mileage and decrease FC. How true is this? anyone have any experience?

IF THERE IS black and white SHOWING THAT IT works,wAT STOPPING U??

What is stopping people is that there is no hard evidence, and no physical theory that shows it works. User reviews are notoriously unreliable, an in spite of repeated requests you've never posted any independent test data to show that it works.
