Hahaha.

There are large sections of roads covered with nothing but metal plates.

I just try to ride a straight line without having to lean my bike when on these plates.

So I align my bike properly at the start of the plate towards the end of the plate, then go straight. Then while on the plate, I just pray that my aim is correct and I don't have to lean the bike or brake the bike in between. :cheeky:

tats wat i try to do too... straight from 1pt to the other...... avoid any leaning of bike while on metal plates.... and always go slow cos will always eats into other vehical lane.....

All information is provided here with good intentions and to the best of my knowledge and is not liable for any negative effects that might occur due to this information. Thank You.

do you find that these days the roads are getting from bad to worse? there are more sands on the road, some roads are very uneven, man holes are protruding on the road surface? sometimes i can almost lose control of my bike because of either slippery roads or protruding man holes. what does lta got to say about this?

I think the red tiles to mark out school zones are not suitable for wet weather.

Most roads which are next to schools now have a section of it paved with the red tiles instead of regular tarmac. They become very slippery when wet, and I was nearly involved in an accident recently.

I was riding past a neighbourhood primary school and it was just after a heavy downpour. I was riding pretty slowly, about 40+km/h just going over the red tiles when I noticed some pri sch kids playing by the curbside, I tapped my brakes to slow down in case they decide to dash out, and my tyres skidded over the red tiles. Thankfully I was already travelling very slowly so I did not lose control.

If the children really did dash onto the road, I'd have skidded into them.

I know the red tiles are to mark out 'hazard zones' but they become a hazard to motorcyclists instead. What is the point of warning me that there might be kids crossing the road when it kills me to even try to slow down?

I think tiles with more grip should be used. Am I the only one with this problem?

FYI: I am using Dunlop GPR-70s, and have no problems on wet tarmac and few problems on white lines/yellow box markings.

Believe nothing you hear; and only half of what you see.

Do or do not; there is no 'try'.

haha....

i also find that driving and riding in sg roads are really two diff things...

when driving, u dont feel most of the bumps and wont even lookout for sand etc on the roads. a car's suspension evens out most of it. dun even need to worry abt the white and yellow paint markings...

but riding, must really be alert for foreign objects. wonder y, with today's technology, they cant use non-slip paint for the markings... maybe we ought to start a petition and bring up the case to LTA.

tats y i salute and pray for those riders who just dive into a corner or turn without slowing down... bravehearts!

I believe I have seen this thread before but I couldn't quite find it around anymore. It was a thread about removing the signs which says "Slower Vehicles and Motorcycles Keep Left".

Being a rider for a couple of years, I've had my fair share of bad experiences with drivers trying to force me out of the 1st/right lane despite me maintaing legal limits, or even at times over the limits. Though I constantly give way to faster oncoming vehicles, via which I display common courtesy to fellow road users. I think I'm a friendly road user.

However, over the years, I've realised that drivers have the tendency to pull up close to us or brushing past us, intimidating our equal rights to use the facility of public roads. It began to struck me what really happened till one fine day a SUV driver pulled up beside me and said, "Do you know you f-king riders are not allowed to ride on the right lane?" I was both antagonised and surprised by that comment. Till then I really wonder what gave that the idea to say that.

Until the day when I came across this sign which I didn't usually take notice of, "Slower Vehicles and Motorcycles Keep Left", then revelation came to me and realised what really went wrong. After going through some of our local car forums commenting about their often misjudged counterparts, we're perceived as slow, road hogging, never adhere to signs and instructions. Due to that fateful sign.

Most of the drivers who flash at us but never at their own slow kind, for cooping up the overtaking/1st/right lane never spared similar thoughts for the likes of 2-wheelers. They come as close as about 5 centimetres when overtaking just to tell us to get out of the way while endangering a fellow human. Are we really lacking proper driver education, or it's time the authorities should do something about those signs again.

actually i think most bikes r faster than cars leh...

:cheeky:

at least mine is fasters than every car on the road leh....

i do see those same signs you r talking about. everytime i see those signs, there's only one question on my mind.... "Who says motorcycles are slower??"

i think a R1 can beat every almost every bloody car there is on the road?

Actually it's true that motorcycles are no longer slow tortoise of the motor industry these days. But most of the times that sign wasn't interpreted as Slow(Vehicles & Motorcycles) keep left, but rather they're being read as (Slow Vehicles) & Motorcycles. Which didn't imply slow motorcycles should keep left, drivers take it as ALL motorcycles should keep left, including fast ones.

Also, judging from comments made by drivers, they feel motorcycles shouldn't keep right is because they have poor braking distances. Which is most of the time true, but if not because of inconsiderate drivers cutting into our lanes and them tailgating us, we could have been keeping a safe following distance at ease. The signboard is really doing motorcyclists more harm than good.

No point.

How many people in the so-called "authorities" ride a bike themselves?

How many minister in Parliament ever rode a bike before?

We bikers have to fend for ourselves.

I have twice met up with drivers who insisted on u-turning at a junction though I was coming through. Confronted them and their reason was "green light, so I can u turn".

Excuses excuses excuses. There was eye contact, loud horns, they knew I was comin through but their hands just refused to listen to the brain. Coordination problem.

No danger though, I saw it coming and averted early. I am just wondering what the F are these drivers doing on the road?

A Mazda Protege (note, 1.6 and very very slow) wanted to squeeze me outta lane 1 once. Of course, I zipped away. Asked him why he wanted to murder me later on when we exit and stopeed at the same red light. Same answer: bikes not allowed on lane 1, go and die, go police, go to hell etc.

Sometimes when I drive I give way to bikers, esp unlces on lao K and vespas. And sometimes I do try to shield these riders along filter lanes when there is a big truck behind. Most of the time they get squeezed into the shoulder by cars.

All riders start from 2B, so there's no reason for discrimination.

I'm not so sure for driver though. If you're affluent enough you drive an RX350 on a P plate and tag your name to your dad's insurance.

But there are good drivers. Very few but they do exist. I wave to them when I zip past, that should brighten anyone's day.

Looking it from a peculiar point of view, it allows us to define good/courteous drivers better. :p

I totally agree with GiantValk, the authority doesn't care. How much are you paying for road tax on your 1000cc sportsbike? $320. How much are drivers paying for their Kelisa? Around $400. And their COE? At least 10 times more than us.

The crucial lies in the fact that they do not ride motorcycles.

but

they need to know that

every1 is some1's son/daughter

every1 is some1's father/mother

what's the point of being courteous and apologetic, when after u have caused some1's death

PROBLEM is not serious, if it can be solved with MONEY ... the PROBLEM comes when you have NO MONEY

Amazingly, they know how to point to the sign when you are on the right lane, but how often do you see bloody morons driving cars at night going at 80 on extreme right lane?

Even cars on the left lane was overtaking it.

We singaporeans have the least road manners, esp those car drivers. Seems theat they think they own or drive a car in SG they are kings of the roads. (even taxi drivers do that soo often)

the fact is many singaporean drivers.... especially the high end ones... never drive in malaysian or thai roads before... and since they pay a lot on insurance... anything happen to them is just claim insurance..

they don't feel the pain like we do...

most sg driver only have class 3... no 2b 2a 2 or 4.... therefore they are very inexperienced....

my cousin passed away just before hari raya... he was knocked down by a car from behind on the 2nd lane in tpe at around 6 am.... wondering till now how can that happen

he left behind 3 young kids 2, 4 , 5 yrs old and he was the sole breadwinner of the family

i think we're drifting a bit off topic because the original idea was about improving the road conditions..

true, some cars are by themselves road hazards in their own way, but imho, i think that's unlikely to change for the better in the near future. respect for fellow road users just can't be built without people having a paradigm shift..

what can be changed though, (in a perfect world of course) is the use of better paint for road markings, clearer road signs etc.. maybe there's no works in progress towards improving the quality of roads because even though people are aware of the issue, not enough dare/bother/care to voice it up to relevant authorities?

mods done:

powerplant device, fuel injector venturis,

underseat cylindrical air filter, bassy stock cans,

super-sensitive in-built gyroscope, inertia-based accelerometer,

streamlined panniers (zero drag),

taped up wires, exposed grounding wires,

TBC mounted, custom tire pressures.

litre bikes watch out! :gun:
