(x² - 81x - 186) cos [(π/2) - 90°] = 0

(x² - 81x - 186) cos [(180°/2) - 90°] = 0

(x² - 81x - 186) cos (90° - 90°) = 0

(x² - 81x - 186) cos 0° = 0

(x² - 81x - 186) (1) = 0

x² - 81x - 186 = 0

(x - 83) (x + 2) = 0

therefore x = 83 or x = -2

since it is given that x is > 0, x = 83

:cheers:

Your Sec 3 Maths fail.

83 x 2 = 166.

x should be 83.235.

Haha this is the way I would have done it. The cos part is a constant so there's no need to reduce it down.

but still... you didn't do it...

Not sure if anyone is interested in some maths,

this is hearsay this year's PSLE question.

Jim bought some chocolates and gave half of it to Ken. Ken bought some sweets and gave half of it to Jim. Jim ate 12 sweets and Ken ate 18 chocolates. The ratio of Jim’s sweets to chocolates became 1:7 and the ratio of Ken’s sweets to chocolates became 1:4. How many sweets did Ken buy?

let S be sweets and C be chocolates

Jim's current balance is

7(S/2 - 12) = C/2 >>>(1)

Ken's current balance is

(C/2-18) = 2S

C/2 = 2S + 18

C = 4S + 36 >>>(2)

putting (2) into (1):

7S/2 - 84 = 2S +18

7S - 168 = 4S + 36

3S = 204

S = 68

Ken bought 68 sweets :cheer:

Haha vidak. You're using simultaneous equations to solve a PSLE question...try to use what they know at that time to solve haha.

to rephrase it for primary school level, instead of using " = ", I could use " : " ratio... ratio is taught in primary 3, so is algebra :smile:

We (me and a few friends) have thought about it.

It has to be simultaneous. Simple ratio doesn't provide solutions, simply because you have ratio, but you also have sums.

Trial and error will not work well here.

neither did I... but as time passes it is normal for higher learning to transcend to younger minds... maths today is far harder than that 20 years ago... if there is no maths "inflation", our technological frontier would remain stagnant...

old man,

I'll take over your previous title of "road hogger" for now.

Man, I just cannot stand those taxi and vans middle finger me for moving too slow along left most lane. How do you swallow that? Care to gimme some tips.

Cheers!

This one my title..I dont mind riding slow.

Dont bother about those behind. But keep a note of their distance behind you. You ride at your own pace and comfort. Then only will you enjoy the ride.

Warren, no matter how fast I go, I still lose to a Ducati Monster, a Boldor and a Fino with sports rim.

Btw, I not coming into this thread until those bugger finished with their Maths or Theory or whatever. I dont understand what they trying to proof... I find it very irritating. Suppose to be Chit Chat becomes like war. A simple term of "I travelling at 83km/h in KPE is ok and I dont know what happened to the female rider who was faster than me?" Fyi, 83 on a TA is about 73 on other bikes unless you done the modification.

okok... no more maths... dun want to be a bugger... :weep:

my meter would read 92km/h before I recalculate the actual speed...
