Your user manual would give you a good guide. However, there are some who are more fastidious and may service at closer intervals.

My regime goes like this. Disclaimer - This is my regime and you do it at your own discretion.

1. Oil and filter change: Evry 6 months or 10,000kms. using Mobil 1 and Mazda (323 model) oil filter ($7.00 only!). Whichever is sooner.

2. Chain lube: Every week or 300km.

3. Brake fluid change: Yearly or 20,000km.

4. Fork fluid change: Yearly or 20,000km.

5. Air filter: I use K&N: Clean and re-oil once a year or 15,000km.

6. Coolant: Annually regardless of mileage.

Others:

1. Tyres: About 18,000km replacement. BT020.

2. Brakes: About 15,000km (front), 8,000 (rear) whenever worn. Mileage varies with brands used.

3. Spark plugs: 40,000 km - NGK Iridium.

4. Chain, sprocket set changed 3 years and 53,000km ago - still running like new.

Other than that, nothing else.

cheers.

1. Battery: Mazda stockist at Veerasamy Rd (off Serangoon Road). Get model B6Y1-14-302A. Can get from any car parts dealers tho'.

2. Battery: I get mine from LAB. FURUKAWA brand (Made in Japan) for $67 (last Nov 2006 - still in the bike).

I suggest not to use NGK brand recommend for Denso Iridium.

Used these 2 brand and prefer Denso in overall .

Tyres i also dun recommend BT020 - Go for Michelle Pilot road .

I have use it before and the grip is sux after 8-10k .

I will not want to regret in my life when i look back when i am old man.

Feedback from other viffer fellow that it last min 50k km . I already reach 40k

km and it working fine . no ned to change unless u feel like .

VFR is build to last a long long time that the power of it.

With well taken care it will be nice to u back :)

I give my VFR nothing but the best i can afford within my pocket .

It boil down to individual .

I change my black oil with full systn by sikolene at 22-25 per bottle and change filter when i change with black oil . Change within 5k or when i feel changing gear is not smooth feel..

Change plug every 15-20km k or 3 time black oil change . only denso Iridium is allow but it yr choice . ALl plug work in actual fact . it matter of favourite choice and the respond u wan . U pay wat u get in return as my theory.

Tyres there alot choice out there but overall choice it will be Michelle brand.

With PC3 it will improve yr bike fuel consumtion and feel of the overall .

With spare money .. go for a gd rear shock and change spring on the fork as well with end can to go for increase of hp in overall.

End can recommend by me will be lazer. There other brand like leo vince to go with and many more which i dun recommend in my point of view .

Just my share of point of view.

I will not want to regret in my life when i look back when i am old man.

Just did my 20K servicing.

1. Change brake pads front and back.

2. Change engine oil.

3. Change oil filter.

Total cost - $250

Is this too ex?

Anyways will be changing tyres at 25K, what do the bros recommend? I want something good for wet and dry condition all rounder.

Bro, depends of what brake pads you changed.

Fully syn EO - Approx $75 (3 bottles)

Filter - $15

Meaning your brake pads are $160???? Quite expensive leh... SBS Brake Pads front & back usually less than $100....

That is, imho, FARKING expensive!! Unless it's some EBC HHHHHH super duper MotoGP brake pads...

Are you sure he didn't do anything else?

surprise number 1:

$250 sounds just about right.

1. Change brake pads front and back.

- original nissin pads cost around $195 per set (2 front 1 back)

2. Change engine oil.

3. Change oil filter.

- a package of those 2 items at motoworld using maxima extra engine oil and hiflo filter = $75

total = $270

so, you have probably gotten it cheap.

surprise number 2:

original brake pads IS that expensive.

the original brake pads is also of a better quality that people actually give it credit for (at least for the vfr nissin brake pads). sorry, but the sbs ones simply cannot make it (ebc hh is another matter :p ). here's a quick price guide for those complaining of expensive brake pads (remember: you need 3 pairs):

- EBC HH - Motoworld - $66 per pair

- Galfer HH - Motoworld - $70 per pair

- Goldfren S3 Racing - FJT - $20 per pair

- Honda OEM (Nissin) - FJT - $65 per pair

- Braking USA - Uberstore - $58 per pair

surprise number 3:

try searching for vfr brake pads in singapore. you will be surprised how hard it is to get a set of decent brake pads, especially for 2006+ models. you will probably need to pre-order and depending on who you believe, it will take between 1 week, 1 month, 3 months or 6 months. btw 2006+ models has different part numbers for the front brakes as compared to the 2002-2005 models (front and back same part number). go check the microfiche if you wished to confirm.

btw, replacing brake pads at 20k sounds a little extreme. i did mine at 30k and it seems like there's still room to go.

ok, I know I will get flamed because...I don't use expensive brake pads. Just bought Goldfren, $45 for all 3 sets. Sure it's not going to help me do a stoppie but...

Just check the part no., seems like the VTEC (esp the ones with ABS) uses different pads for the left and right calipers.... then I guess I'm in no position to comment, cos the 5th gen uses a more common design of same pads for both calipers.

Btw, just bought EBC pads for my RS250. $53 per caliper during SBF anniversary. Hence I said it was expensive...

relax, there's no reason to flame.

what anyone prefers or likes to use is none of my concern :p i merely wanted to point out that for the items that Echelon uses, it wasn't expensive.

the price i quoted is just rrp, so bound to have some differences between shops/individuals. also, the price for ebc during the mo is fantastic but that shouldn't be the basis for reference unless another mo is going on. but still $53 x 3pairs = $159, so, Echelon's price is still a fair amount.

for 2002~05, the front (left and right) and back is the same. using ebc as a reference (since it was mentioned), both front and back is using fa261hh.

for 2006+, the front (left and right) is using fa388hh. back is using fa261hh.

I think if using original brake pads and oil filter,$250 is a good price...

James,

PR2 = Pilot Road 2??? I intend to get rid of the stock tyres ASAP cos the wet weather traction sucks.... Unlike the BT14s & 15s on my old bike.

I heard the PR2 mileage is quite good also. Any reviews??

I'm still on the stock Dunlops. It's fine for normal weather conditions but scary for wet weather... Thank god for ABS dude... Or I might have been fodder on the Taman Perling highway...

I used to swear by my Bridgestone BT14s/15s but would like to venture into 2CT territory. And so far, the Pilot Road 2 has been receiving rave reviews for superb lean angle, mileage & wet weather traction...

I am using BT 014...but one thing I dun like Bridgestone is that the front tire always go out of shape in a short while...no matter which model....
