the cost is high now due to the fact that its hand built ...if it goes mass production im sure prices will plunge .

with regards to ur argument saying that 5 speed manual = class 3

aren't current bikes 4-6 speed manual too ?

i guess this "toy" will be for people who have both class 2 and 3 as suggested by bikers inc ...but than again that will also reduce the pool of people who are eligible for this machine[/QUOte]

when i say 5 speed manual = for cars.

which means it have a gear shift hand lever and a foot operated clutch system.

it also have a steering wheel, not a motorcycle's handle bar.

mass production? i seriously doubt there is the demand for it.

serious bikers will want real bikes which they can achieve crazy lean angles at insane speeds.

a bike which they can wheelie and do stoppie with it.

and most cars drivers will want a comfortable ride, not a vehicle which will lean left/right throughout the journey.

i don't think the pillion will feel very comfortable too.

i believe this will remain a "vehicle" for the exclusive fews.

Dear All.

We at Bikers Inc sincerely hope that everyone has enjoyed this article as much as we have benefitted from preparing it for all bikers. However, at this moment we are not certain if the Carver One can be approved as a car (Class 3) or bike (Class 2), so let's keep our fingers crossed...

For your information, the article on the Carver One mentioned in this post was published in Bikers Inc's inaugural issue in December 2007, and it is heartening to note that our humble publication has been able to facilitate active discussion that might contribute to policy changes in the local scene.

The Carver One is a unique hybrid vehicle that employs the dynamics of 'banking' and incorporates the cocoon of a car body. The exhilarating driving experience as attested to by fans the world over is surprisingly a byproduct of the design work - ie. it was largely unintentional.

As for the issue at hand, Bikers Inc has come forward to suggest the following:

(a) the classification remain as a motorcycle for taxation purposes, as this will contribute to keeping costs low.

(b) the licence regulation be in the form of 'Class 3 + Class 2 or 2A or 2B'. The justifications for this are that for Class 2, helmets would be compulsory but with the confined space, a helmet would be counter-productive and cause more impairment. Furthermore, the vehicle still operates on the dynamics of 'banking' and therefore anyone with a motorcycle licence would be au fait with such dynamics.

We sincerely hope that the Carver One can make its grand entry to our shores soon as an affordably-priced vehicle that can be enjoyed by many of us. With STOMP running a story as well (viewed 11,000+ times) that originates from our article, there is no doubt that awareness will rapidly increase amongst the community.

Please feel free to share your comments with us at [email protected] so that the motorcycling community can actively participate in an issue that affects it directly, thank you.

Depends on pricing.

If it costs, like what the article or site says, that much, then not much point. 'Cos you could buy a car, or exotic superbike with that much dosh.

But if it costs as much as the average CL2 bike, then it is a worthwhile consideration. Fun of a bike, shelter of a car.

Guess its one tough cookie..... if it had more bike-like features, it might just be classified as a bike but with all the steering wheel etc, pretty hard i would say.

The discussion is still going strong and, with a possible new player on the world stage (called Venture One), things might get even more interesting. Let us hope for good things to come.

In the meanwhile, for a comprehensive recap of the Carver One dilemma, please hop over to the Bikers Inc Blog...

The follow-up article will not be the cover story, not to worry. It will be a separate feature article within the 2nd issue. Thanks for the heads up!

i find the fuel consumption of 16.67km/L quite high leh... a perodua kelisa or honda jazz can achieve this figure quite easily i guess. then what's the point? classified as car so ERP parking tax everything as expensive as normal car. even fuel consumption also not say superb. and for the 22000 pounds it's about 66000 SGD before GST registration etc. wow, might as well get subaru R1 R2 or Mitsubishi I, even better fuel consumption. and this thing in accident sure die. and i dun understand how it helps congestion. the length is about the same as normal car or the best it's the length of a normal hatch back. i dun think two of it can cruise in the same lane. so how can it help congestion???
