hi, anyone fitted halogen fog lights on phantom? i'm interested to fit a pair of 12V 55W H3 halogen (with relay) on my TA200 but worried it may drain out the bike's smallish battery.

btw, where's a god place to buy something like these in sinkapor

Joseph, im using just that. Got a H4 bullet headlight from Madman also a pair of H3 White foglights from A* K**n. So far my bike is okie. As long as the engine is on, it should be fine coz it'll charge the battery constantly. Btw the foglights are just for "in case" right....Im sure ur not gonna use them in tandem with the headlights. Anyways if it affects the battery longevity, i'll post here alright.

Remember to factor in the cost of the new tank + the possibility that you need to modify your handlebars so it wont hit the bigger tank.

Hie Joseph.....actually im not sure bout which headlights colour are better but i heard that yellow projects better than white or blue which i think makes sense. That's coz all vehicle and also our lamp posts uses yellow......no? Well i bought mine from Valarie at a discounted price....2nd hand lah of course. Its the white light, same as u saw from K**n. I asked K**n's help to fix it including brackets which i put beside my headlights.....i think cost me ard 30++. When my headlights failed me, the spotlights made a good temporary replacement. All in all, i think i recommend u. Btw the tape is to prevent water seeping in. I guess thats normal. 16th mebbe u can see the lights on my bike.

I want to see the world and i'm pretty sure the world wants to show a little something to me.

if u happen to go through fog, mist or snow, white and blue light are useless.

explanation in layman's term:

only yellow head light can shine through, white light on white fog/snow, how to see ?

if u want Ph.D's tech talk:

http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/phy99/phy99xx4.htm

light with short wavelengths scatters more than light with long

wavelengths (short to long: violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange,

red). So, a long wavelength light will be best.

our eyes are not equally sensitive to all colors. It turns

out that we are most sensitive to yellow and green light. So, our best

compromise between sensitivity for our eyes and a long wavelength for least

scattering is yellow light.

but in same article, another professor say it's mistake :help:

There are two possible explanations for yellow fog lights. One is that the

first designers of such lights were mislead because they did not understand

the limitations of Rayleigh's scattering law and did not know the size

distribution of fog droplets. The other explanation is that someone deemed

it desirable to make fog lights yellow as a way of signalling to other

drivers that visibility is poor and thus caution is in order.

http://www.gi.alaska.edu/ScienceForum/ASF5/593.html

For expert advice, I contacted the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) on Fort Wainwright. Captain John Craig of that group then arranged to have a computer search made on the subject of light penetration in fog and mist from CRREL's headquarters in Hanover, New Hampshire. As a result, I obtained a list of over 200 references and abstracts of articles published by researchers all over the world.

Not a single one asserted that yellow light has superior penetrating qualities, but several specifically stated that it did not. To quote from one Russian article, for example:

"Investigations and practices of automobile traffic do not confirm any substantial advantages of yellow light over white light. The advantages ascribed to it may take place only in very thin fog or may be subjectively received by some drivers owing to their individual peculiarities of vision. Therefore, it does not make any sense to switch over headlights to yellow light, although the use of yellow light in special fog lights does not raise any objections." End of quote. The phrasing is quaint, but the meaning is clear.

I had long thought that the yellow sodium-vapor street lamps that are becoming common were used specifically because they cut through fog better. I found out that there actually is a specific reason for their use, but that it is because they operate on only about half the power of conventional lamps.

So, unless you just happen to like yellow, save your money and forget about so-called "fog-lights." They don't exist.

Any idea if it is legal to change our Phantom fuel tank to a bigger one like that of a CB400?

madman has 17L tanks, wider size. Coz higher tank might obstruct handle turning path.

may be shadow tank might fit, but hard to spot a scrapped shadow.

super4 tank wont look good on phantom, IMO. will try photoshop again if i got free time. :)

heh heh... i didn't agree with dr k**n's explanation of yellow being able to shine thru while white/blue can't, so i asked. your view is similar to his :p

thanks for posting the additional links, they are useful and confirmed my suspicion that yellow is not scientifically superior that it can shine thu'. but i do prefer yellow coz it should stand out better, not so blinding and easier for other parties to spot me bike.

phantom's stock headlight is miserable. my main aim is to light up the roads ahead and make others see me in the dark of malaysia, fog is secondary... but of course gotta look nice also lah :cheeky:

alternative is to change the head lights to something using halogen
