This morning when i start bike, the engine sound is different from usual. It sounds as though something in the engine is knocking on the metals.

However when i ride it, everything else seems alright. No loss in power etc. Can any bikers tell me what might be wrong so that i won't get chopped when i go mech tml?

Thanks in advance.

PS: My bike is a RXZ. The sound is like when you pull choke, but i've checked my choke it's normal.

i at first thought this might be a common issue in bikes.

running in??? it will be like that..

not running in.

no problem la. after u ride awhile ok alrd right?

now ok liao, without doing anything. but the sound for that day is very scary. really very different. can it be something to do with the EO? i've not change for about almost 4000km.

anyway thanks for the response!!! :thumb: :cheeky:

We discussed this in the 'Machine Clinic' section of our inaugural issue (currently on the stands). Did you recently top up your engine oil and/or the engine oil level is above the 'Max' mark?

"The rationale on this theory is that when the engine oil content is at its maximum volume (or slightly over) the crankshaft and the connecting rods beat or whip air into the oil creating foam in the oil. When this foam enters the lifters, the air content in the foam then allows the lifter to tap or click."

- Bikers Inc, Issue 1, Pg 54

This phenomenon affects different bikes in different ways so it has to be tested at the individual machine level. So as long as the engine oil level does not dip below the lower, 'Min' mark, there is no adverse effect for the engine itself. Perhaps, due to the age of your ride, this phenomenon is manifesting only now, so lowering the level of the engine oil may counter the problem.

All the best and do get it checked out by a qualified mechanic should the problem persist.

i encounter this same issue on my 4stroke bike as well. the slight rattling only comes in when i cold start the engine.

actually i always thot it is due to the piston and piston rings havent warm up and expand, creating the rattling which disappears after some short distance riding.

could this be possible as well in addition to what biker inc has put up?
