What is mp5 player? I am a newbie about computer and electronic.

The term "MP4 player" (and thus, MP5) was coined by some Asian or "made in China" technology manufacturer that decided to infiltrate the already branded market with their play-music-n-videos players. Not having a name for these kinds of players, they eventually called it MP4 player.

It's also can come in the form of an imitation iPod as well...

On the other hand,

An MP4, as defined by the technological dictionary and in general, is a versatile file format that can store a video, an audio, or both in it, with extra goodies such as subtitles or still images.

In comparison, how MP4 can encapsulate so many things inside a file is the same concept as a Microsoft Word documents (.doc) in that inside it, it can contain text, images, graphs, inside a file, MP4 works the same way.

P.S.: "MP5" is actually a German sub-machine gun

What is mp5 player? I am a newbie about computer and electronic.

Here's a example of a mp5 player. There are many brands such as Ainol, Meizu & Aigol selling in SLS. It has the latest microprocessor built-in which can plays mp1,2,3,4,5 directly without need to convert the files to a standard type, frame size or frame rate.

Mp5 is actually rmvb format (video) , mp4 has many type (video - divx, mp4 etc), mp3 is audio, mp2 is dvd files, mp1 is mpeg or vcd format.

You can download FOC hundreds of free movies from website such as http://www.funshion.com

You may ask why mp5 is so popular in china? because mp5 compression ratio is higher than mp4 - double. Means a dvd quality 2 hr movie is only 400mb in rmvb format, 800mb for mp4 format, 4GB in dvd vob format. This means when you watch a rmvb movie streaming thru a slow internet line, you will not see so much starts/stops & buffering, compare to a format which is bigger file size.

The price of mp5 has dropped like a stone for last few months, the features & functions has increased. So the PC show should hv something that can plays radio, voice recording, plays mp5,4,3,2,1 & also can plug into your tv to playback the rmvb videos.

So if you are shopping for a mp3 player, you may want to re-consider pay a bit more for a mp5 player.

Great insight there!

But err...you can call me a freak for goods that are produced and/or backed by popular and renowned companies...Apple, Sony, Philips, etc...

Whilst the MP4/MP5 family is a cheap alternative for media on-the-go, its features, interface, reliability, and support leaves much to be desired for tech aficionados like me.

Two SGD cents here :)
