The progressives were adjustable, but right now even on its stiffest setting its still soft. Currently riding a 883 hugger.

Don Juan, are u using progressives as well? Im as heavy as you are, so its not so bad when I ride it, but my dad's a lot heavier, so thats when the trouble starts. Right now the gap between the fender and tire is about an inch or so. Think i need to increase the distance between. Does your bike handle better with lowered shocks? Thanks for the suggestion by the way

Mine are not progressives. I lowered my bike using an after market kit. The distance between the wheel and inner fender is only about an inch or so.... hmm.... doesn't sound too right to me. I think 2.5 - 3 inches would be better.... when you're purchasing the new shocks, let the sales person know the gap that you desire. Same goes if your adjusting your progressives....

Bike feels lower and more stable for me. But i have a slight problem putting the side stand down now.... have to tilt the bike a bit more to the right to fully release the side stand on the left. As the bike is lower now, have to go easy on the cornering.... you win some, you lose some.

But its alright for me as i'm a slow rider. Slow and steady :thumb:

Thanks don. I enjoy a slow leisurely ride as well, only problem is when the road gets bad or a lot of construction going on, then the suspension is a problem. Ill be going 1 inch up from the current set up, at least there's more travel.

Was along west coast road just now, saw a ducati 848, and further up, a road king. :thumb: If the rider is here, saying hello!

I have this problem too when the road gets rough. Very springy effect coming from the front and back. I may consider changing my folk oils to thicker and higher density ones to counter the rough roads and to get a smoother and more comfotable ride. Cheers & Regards.

from your description of your ride, go for the 13" will do the trick...I am running on 12" progressive but it doesnt hit the fenders, It has about 1.5" gap between the tyres and fenders...the only thing is i got to really go slow over humps or the bottom frame of my bike will touch the hump.

if money is no issue for you, you may like to consider having air suspension..view clip below

germs, i used to ride a hugger 883 wif 11inch progressive on 16inch rear rim. i only bottomed it out when i have a pillion riding fast over humps. i am sure u stick wif ur stock 13inch u should have no prob wif the 18inch rims.

on another note, my fren's 07 883 low is running on 18inch front n rear rims but his ride is ok. correct me if i am wrong, but 883 low is running on 11inch shocks? but going wif 13inch i am sure it wont go wrong.

thanks all for the suggestions.

PBS, My dad's about 100 kilos (hope he doesnt read this), so this happens as long as he's sitting on the bike and on the move. Went to sunburst, Mr Yee said the shocks arent working properly anymore. Bikelab mentioned the nitro gas in the progressives has depleted, something along those lines.

Maxmadness,Thanks for the clip. suspension is adjustable from the handlebar itself? wow. its quite pricey, but no doubt you get what you pay for.

kepbin, the standard shocks for hugger is 11.75", so I think for the 883 low its the same length as well. If he's running 11.75" on 18" rear tired then Im quite sure the suspesion needs a change.

Fengdrew, the stock rear wheel size for a rdking is 16 or 18?

Ive ordered the 12.5" progressives off ebay. Hope its in by early next week! Right now I practically roll the bike slowly over humps, painfully slow.

hmm...i dun think hugger standard is 11.75. coz i measured my 2000 hugger's shock fr eye to eye is 13inch. if i not wrong, all sportster comes wif 13inch shocks other than the 883 low. at least thats true for sportster up to 03 models.

germs, if dun mind my stock shocks, u can collect fr me for free. i dun use it anymore n its sitting in the store room.

ah.. such a waste. If I knew you had a pair I definetely would have gotten it from you.. Ive already ordered the progressives. Thanks a lot though for the offer! And my bad, i think you're right on the stock shocks length.

Better to have more than less. If the stocks ones are 13 inches and you ordered 12.5 inches, should be alright. Just in case you dad decides to take a pillion, it should still hold and not scrape.... i hope.

Anybody got problem with cats sleeping on their bikes? :(

Actually I am quite keen to talk about suspension height but this cat things got my attention. Bought a LePera barebone solo and got 3 tiny paw holes next day. FED UP!!! Some friends ask me to put chili powder on the seat, I rather kill the cat! kidding.

Ok now back to suspension... I've done it the dodgy way, got those lowering blocks. I think the advert says that it lowers 1.75". Anyway, I've encounter 2 problems.

1. Rear plastic fender occassionally rubs on the upper belt guard and scratches it. Not happy.

2. With pillion, if not careful over hump, it scrapes the main frame more often than not.

If you'd asked has the comfort or agility of the bike has changed ever since I got the block. I couldn't tell the difference.

Damn it!!! My seats also have 2 small holes and a scratch. Hope the leather holds and the holes doesn't get bigger. Damn, those street cats!!!! One of them lookl like a miniture tiger. I went to my neighbourhood tailor to get a unwanted cloth and put it on my seat before i cover it out with the bike cover. The next day, i still see cat fur on the cloth.

Anybody knows any way to make the cats stay away other than putting a guard dog there? :faint: Sorry a bit off topic.... but still a bike problem. Thanks.

I also bought the 1.75 inches lowering kit from Tamarack. Bike feels very low and comfortable now. Didn't face any of the problems that you mentioned.... yet. I still have about 2.5 inches clearance from the wheel base to the inside of the rear fender.

Don't buy expensive seats?

Use duct tape to cover the holes?

Put you helmet on the seat? Usually, not always, if there's something on the seat they won't go on it.

I don't mind cat's that much even though they peed all over my seat and bike and boxes etc and my cats at home are so bloody noisy. But I just don't mind animals in general :p

they pee on your bike?? I dont mind animals as well, but I think ill be pretty annoyed if that ever happened. hahah. I notice cats sleeping mostly on cars though, not many on bikes. If im not wrong there is a spray to deter cats from going to a particular area. You may want to check with a pet shop. Thats what some people are currently doing on my school campus as cats often stray into hostel rooms when the doors are open.
