hi, just saw the iphone on sale today at sim lim. Surprised that it can be use in sg, the sales staff says its already unlock and can be used. The screen is amazing! going for 1380 for a 8gig. any reviews in sg context, a lot on usa but i like to know how it works in sg. anyone got one already?

Yes, iPhone can be "unlocked".

 

Why "unlock" it?

It's because Apple wants this phone to be used in the US (AT&T mobile carrier) only and not any other carrier/overseas carrier such as Singtel (not yet).

 

That shop better do its deals fast and siam.

If any Apple representative or lawyer happens to know about this shop...

Actually, iPhone came out first in the US.

 

The iPod touch came out later and was some sort of a "little brother" of the iPhone...

It's everything but without the phone functionality. iPod Touch now selling worldwide.

 

(If you want to buy the iPhone, sorry -- only USA [and soon France] carries the iPhone. Other countries = next year)

iphone can call n sms

ipod touch can onli watch video n listen mp3, can not call coz is nt a phone

 

lock meaning can not be used in sg

unlock meaning can used in sg with local sim card

 

price ar.. should be around 800-1000..

iPhone was meant to be released in the United States first (on a mobile carrier); the rest of the countries 1~2 years later...

 

Somehow, people around the world wanted to lay their hands on the iPhone so smart hackers/crackers finally found a way to "unlock" this restriction, allowing the iPhone to be used in countries outside the US.

 

This carries a warning though: Apple says the warranty will be void if you ever attempt to "unlock" an iPhone
