So many different point of views. I think the most important thing is just to stay away from them if possible. That's about it, really.

Last Monday, my mrs was travelling along Still Road South and waiting to turn into Marine Parade Road. This taxi which was in the wrong lane, without signalling or anything, just went into her lane cos the taxi driver positioned his taxi in the wrong lane when the traffic lights were red. What the hell! Didn't even wave his hand as a sign of apology or thanks when my mrs gave way to him. The taxi driver must be deaf cos the other cars in his lane horned at him for blocking but he was oblivious to the horning. How I wish that when such incidents happen, there is a TP nearby to book them. They don't know how to take care of their own rice bowl so they deserve to be booked...

Read thru a few interesting postings in here and thought of giving my views. I have nothing against a cabby, but if someone were to tell me the cabby are probably tired after working many hours, need the money to support family etc. I personally felt that this should not be the kind of excuse and reason we should hear and support, let alone forgive and forget. No matter what commitments a cabbie could have, s/he is just another road user on the road and amble resting and alertness should be demonstrate as a service provider.

I don’t see a reason why other road users have to suffer in silence for a crazy cabbie and be understanding at the same time for the cabby’s commitments which required the cabby to drive for as long as 20hrs a day as some had mentioned. I believe majority of the people same as me would have seen their fair share of cabs breaking traffic rules more than they have experience with any other private road users.

And to be rational, most cabby are probably just plain lazy with traffic rules due to bad habits. I have seen one to many times of cabby just switch onto my lane meters away from me without signaling or looking back just to pick up a passenger by a major road side. The moment he notice a half uniformed police from rear mirror, immediately drove off leaving the passenger stunts on the spot. Ha…talk about alertness!

Finalizing my impression, a cabby should at all time be alert and exercise caution on the road. Amble rest of minimum 7hrs daily is necessary (8hrs would be better), practice right ethics in picking up passenger and obeying traffic rules is a priority not to be ignore. If all this fails, what we would have on our road is just another road menace not to be disregards.

was accompanying my girlie waiting for cab the other night. it was red light. 2 comfort taxis, one on the left most n the other on the 1st lane (note 3 lane road), both with green light on. 3.. 2.. 1.. *ding* i start flagging my hand. the one on the first lane floored his pedal (i guess) and cut the rav4 on the 2nd lane! the rav4 horned him. and then he cut his own fellow cabbie mate on the 3rd lane, jammed his brake and stopped in front of us. the other cab behind was forced to jam his brake as well. i pulled my girlie to the cab behind and boarded his instead.

had an accident w taxi almost 3 yrs ago. was a pillion on hubby's new bike (2nd day on e road only). taxi picked passenger signal and just shoot out while we were coming. end up being sent to hospital in ambulance and my hubby dislocated his collar bone and i had a hairline fracture and we took abt 6 mths to recover. damn heart pain cos it's so new a bike

encounters i experienced while riding (am sure others has similiar stories as well)

- as above picking up passenger then just signal and eat into your lane

- changing lanes w/o care when when u r carrying a rather high speed and cutting into causing u to take

- pushing u out of ur lane when u r not lane straddling

- tailgating

- picking up passengers by e side of e road regardless of situation - blind corner when u r coming out, stopping on double yellow zig zag lines, stopping rite at the carpark entrance or exit, stopping at pedestrian crossing at a filter lane, etc

some taxis even carry an attitude of 'oh another accident' and pulling out their mechanics numbers and card in a flash - implying tat it happens all e time and w/o care of other road users.

i hv taken cabs and some of them would grumble if the destination you go either runs into a traffic jam or plc that doesn't hv high flag down rate of passenger. they r out there to make a living but damn they shd not be doing this at the expense of safety.

some insisted on their own route though u hv given specific instructions (taking a longer route to avoid some jam which would hv taken e same amt of time but cost u more for the fare)

i hv been in cabs that speeds and tailgate and freaking impatient and jamming on their brakes.

sheesh...but wat to do? complaint 1 there r heaps to go. the cab company will just tell u that they hv been warned, tat's it.

One of my accidents where I had to scrapped my GSX R400N was with a taxi. However, I guess it was my fault for not being alert. The taxi stopped to alight a passengers and it was on a one lane street. At the moment he stopped, I was checking my blind spot and by the time I looked in front, it was too late...

I ride and drive and I had MANY close calls with them taxi drivers..

There was once i was driving around Woodlands on the extreme left lane when a taxi ZOOMED passed me, cut into my lane and just slammed on the brakes to pick up a family making me slam on my brakes. I tapped the horn and overtook him. I thought that was it but while waiting for the green light, he pulled up on my left, looked at me and smiled!! He also gestured to me like saying " Whats wrong? " as if NOTHING happened! Really really too much!

..if u slam on ur brakes and hear a loud horn frm behind, look around and im sure anyone also can guess what happened

no offense but..after u hit/ kill someone u think being polite got use mah....

that said, within 4 mths of riding i've encountered my share of close calls with road demons and encounters with really sweet taxi drivers..

unfortunately the bad eggs seem to outnumber the nice ones :(

when im guai guai riding in the middle of the lane they also not happy  must force me give way then feel shuang~ haha

even as a passenger..i've watched them pull all sorts of stunts..

one taxi had already stopped on the other side of the road (red light) in front of many cars.

when he saw us waiting on the opposite pavement (we didnt even flag his cab), he did a 3 point turn in the middle of the cross-junction :faint:

got red light cam he also not scared..power! really didnt wanna board his cab, but no choice the rest alr got on >.>

boarded a taxi which kept weaving in and out of traffic without ever signalling.

drove really close to other vehicles, jammed brakes, keep accelerating and decelerating like mad

..felt abit carsick after that trip :giddy:

baby, u're my love..

To me, most of the taxi drivers in Singapore are Son-Of-A-B1tch. They think they are the kings of the road just because they spend more time on the roads. I never respect them since day 1. That is why I never have sympathy for any taxi drivers got killed, either through accidents or robberies. Serve them right indeed.

bro, i had the same experience too, but this time after the taxi pulled over infront of me, I immidiately swerve to the right lane and guess what? The taxi driver was then seen opening his doors to help his passengers load some stuffs into his bonnet. lucky me, I managed to siam his doors on time. Then at the traffic light, i had asked him "Sorry uncle, did you not see me coming? Didnt you check your mirrors first before opening your door?" and he replied " So what? If you "langgar" (hit) my door, its your fault what!" I was speechless and we continued our journey.

Haiz. well, IMO I think every taxi driver should go on a revision course/test on a yearly or 2 yearly basis. They are really getting out of hand..
