Henry signs for Barcelona

Thierry Henry tonight appeared to be on the brink of leaving Arsenal for Barcelona.

Sources close to the Spanish club have declared a four-year deal has been signed for the France World Cup winner.

Henry, the most influential player in Arsenal's history, admitted the shock departure of vice-chairman David Dein last season had been unsettling for everyone at the club.

It now looks as if the brilliant forward is set to call time on his eight-year stay in north London.

Manager Arsene Wenger will have no doubt tried to convince his talisman to remain at the club, confident they could again compete for honours both at home and abroad.

LONDON -

ARSENE Wenger said Saturday he would speak about his future as Arsenal manager at the 'right time'.

The Frenchman has a year to run on his contract and, having seen striker Thierry Henry leave for Barcelona before the start of this season, the Gunners would be loathe to lose the man who has guided them to so much silverware since he joined the north London club in 1996.

Wenger, speaking after Arsenal's 2-0 friendly win against Barnet, refused to commit himself to staying with the club beyond his existing contract.

'I have shown my commitment in the past,' he told Sky Sports. Pressed on whether he would be staying, he added: 'I will come out at the right moment... maybe when you don't ask me the question.'

Meanwhile Cesc Fabregas, linked with a move to Real Madrid, has said he intends to honour his Arsenal contract.

'I think Cesc has shown many times that he is committed to the club and Cesc in my mind will never leave,' said Wenger.

'He has six or seven years of contract left and we have lost Thierry Henry. We want to keep things as stable as possible.'

Arsenal finished fourth in the Premiership last season but were still 21 points behind champions Manchester United and there are fears they could fall further adrift now Henry has left.

However, Wenger was optimistic about Arsenal's chances without the France forward.

'I think we will focus more on sharing the responsibility that Thierry had up front. There will be more focus on team play and not relying so much on one individual.

'I also think there are some players will take on more responsibility - like (Robin) van Persie, like (Emmanuel) Adebayor, like (Theo) Walcott, like Eduardo, who has just joined us. There are certain players who raise their game when you have a departure like that.'

Someone else Wenger believes will be leaving Arsenal soon is Spanish striker Jose Antonio Reyes, on loan to Real Madrid last season but now set to make his move there permanent.

'I think he will go,' said Wenger. 'I think it will help him to go to Spain because there is no way you can have an unhappy player.'

Arsenal's win over Barnet, who play in the fourth tier of English football, came as a result of goals from Adebayor and Nacer Bazarite.

Steps to do a proper KNNBCCB with middle finger.

1. Bow down slightly, looking intensely at objective

2. Like a raging bull, hop and jog slowly towards objective

3. Take your left palm and slap it hard on the right mid-arm with a SLAP!

4. With charisma, raise right arm, whilst showing middle finger (with left palm trapped in bend right arm)

5. Shout! KNNBCCB

Its time to move on get more solid defender & boost up the midfield and I'm sure they be a contender with their new stadium

Bro kingpet, these ppl choose to omit the fact that Arsenal were merely inconsistent last season, dropping points against teams in the lower half of the table. Fact remains that if you compile a top-4 table ONLY, Arsenal would be 1st, thus proving that they have genuine championship credentials.

Alas, last season inconsistency and severe injury problems plagued us. Nevermind, this year we will be back stronger than ever!
