Since there are many questions asked on rain gears, I think I wanna start this thread to answer all things related to rain gears, specifically RS TACHI rain gears.

I would like to focus on the disadvantage rather than the advantages of each model.

I let the sales people do teh sales talk.

Material:

main 3 types, PVC, Nylon and Goretex.

Advantage of each type:

PVC

Cheapest.

Light.

Nylon

Relatively cheap.

Tough.

Breathable with the correct membrane.

Goretex

Expensive.

Light.

Disadvantage.

PVC

Tears easily.

Not breathable, meaning you will get wet, from your own perspirations.

Hot.

Nylon

Expensive.

Requires proper maintenance/care.

Goretex

Expensive.

Requires proper maintenance/care.

I will be reviewing 3 RS TACHI Products.

RS TAICHI RAINBUSTER

material : PU coated Nylon

Toughness : 5/10

Compactness : 6/10

Waterproofness: 6/10

RS TAICHI RAINBUSTER is a very handy raincoats for our tropical use. Its compact, light, effective for normal rain and very durable. HIghly recommended as a starter rain coats to end all rain coats. Especially suitable for pillion who doesnt come into direct contact with rain. Very cooling and comfortable. Not suitable for cold night rains, might be a bit too cold for comfort. RRP S$80.

RS TAICHI DRYMASTER

material : PU coated Nylon - DRYMASTER

Toughness : 7/10

Compactness : 3/10

Waterproofness: 8.5/10

I love the RS TAICHI DRYMASTER best. It is the 1st raincoats I use which is very waterproof. It is very suitable for our tropical use becuase it feels like normal clothing after you wear them for a long time. DOnt worry about the outershell looks wet when in the rain, the inner shell is extremely waterproof. It is very soft yet durable as well. However, it is very bulky and thus you will need a proper storage spaces for it. Highly recommended as a final rain coat to end all rain coats. Very cooling and comfortable. Suitable for cold night rains, just nice for comfort. RRP S$125.

RS TAICHI DRYMASTER EX

material : PU coated Nylon - DRYMASTER EX

Toughness : 8.5/10

Compactness : 3/10

Waterproofness: 9.5/10

This is an improved version of RS TAICHI DRYMASTER. Why I dont like it much is because it is slightly heavier than the RS TAICHI DRYMASTER, but it is even more durable as the outer shell is ballistic nylon. I recommend this for the regular tourer who wants the best. Very cooling and comfortable. Suitable for cold night rains, just nice for comfort. RRP S$150ish special order only.

Common to all RS TACHI rain gears:

The groin area of their pants are not joined, but 1 piece of material by itself. It means more wastage of material but 100% wont tear. Meaning your pants will remain 100%, regardless of which model you buy, and it is durable as well.

Conditions of my recommendations.

1) Wear your rain gear properly. Pants 1st, then suits and then helmet.

2) Tighen all areas properly.

3) Buy the correct size. Too big, those velcro areas can never be tightened. Dont complain the water seep through. To osmall, your clothing will tear.

4) Dry yor rainsuits 1st by hanging them up before storage.

5) Maintain cleanliness of your suits.

6) Main thing in choosing your rainsuits is in trying them out. The neck area must be able to tighten very tightly. Dont buy from a shop that dont allow you to try.

7) NO bags, absolutelty nothing under the suits.

8) If buying for touring, please bring along your tour suits and wear the rain gear over your touring suits. Its the only way to buy.

For a sizing check:

I am 1.7m tall, 78kg. My neck is 15.5" and waistline is 36". I wear a RS TACHI DRYMASTER Medium size. It is the best fitting for me. However, I dont carry a bag or anything under the suits.

Please dont ask any additional questions like, "how much har?", "good or not?", "where to buy", "got my size or not?", "got mass order bo?","got discount bo?" ... etc ... all are answered here liao.

For further info, please contact MOTOWORLD, Mr. James. He is in charge of RS TACHI products.

NEW MODEL NO HOOD - I just kannar buy a new one

Cant imagine a rain coat with no hood, unbelievable.

IF u want to buy this bloody-no-hood-rs-taichi, I sell you, do pm contact

:)

Hi all,

Please do not be mislead by unproven comments. We have different models of raincoat. Please do not mix them up.

For the raincoats RSR023 it DOES come with the Head Hood, which is the old model (clerance stock only). Only the new model RS030 and RSR024 has no head hood. There are 3 DIFFERENT models.

RS Taichi has decide to improvise the design without head hood because it may not be useful for many.

Thank you.

Hello Ws, there is no unproven comments here. I have stated clearly that the new model drymaster that i bought has no head hood; I even posted a photograph of my purchase in the forum.

I find it very rude of you to put words in my mouth about me misleading the public; with your agreement, I would also like to post your private message to me in this forum.

Please be nice to your repeated customer and the many whom are reading your replies.

I would like to engage/ converse with you in this public forum for transparency.

Please do not private message me. :)

Hi NightHawk,

If you really want a model with head hood, then we recommend you to upgrade to DRYMASTER X Raincoat RSR029 with a small top up amount of $60 and we will bring in from japan for u. DRYMASTER X Raincoat is of a better quality than DryMaster.

Appreciate the effort James, Ive decided to sell it and revert back to my Army gortex.

Still, I'd prefer your kind gesture to inform prospective buyers about the lack of hood in future.

Without a hood, its going to make a lot of difference.

-I can't wear half cap helmet with out getting wet from neckline and collar;

longer rain its going to soak body as well..

-I can't wear my 3/4 and open face helmet as above

-Even Where I try on my humble zues full face,

my neck line expose to rain as well.

-When I ride thailand and it rains or drizzles, I cant walk around eating

and sightings without getting my head all soaked; its going to seep into

body as well.

-Cant imagine holding an umbrella and wearing a rain coat at the same time.

That is why Im so pissed; buying a raincoat I cannot use.

I know u may walk a fine line between selling a raincoat and taking in feedbacks.

My intention to sound off fellow bikers is/are/was/were very clear; no pun intended.

I did consider the conflict of interest too; because I am a member of this biking community, you are a paying advertiser to Singapore bike forum and it could get quite messy where such matters arise and not interpreted correctly.

frankly, I never had the urge for a hood .... because I were using a ARAI RAM II helmet then.

AS usual, pls check the stuff one is buying to avoid buyer's remorse. If in doubt, always ask ....

I disagree very very Berry much.

I regard the Hood is an expected component of a rain coat.

It completes the waterproof-ness purpose of wearing a rain coat in the first place.

This is also the very reason why i bought the previous taichi; after reading how passionately you wrote about its waterproof-ness.

But now the new model no hood, the whole theory of waterproofness and it being a full fledge raincoat is gone. Unless we all wear ramII then can cover until no water seep in perhaps?...hmm

I had wanted to ask you to review what u have writen in this sticky thread to warn buyers too. After reading ur above reply, I reckon its quite impossible.

In essence, the logic is simple to understand.

When I bought my house, I expect it to have windows. I dun need to ask the developer if its got windows because it is expected.

Similarly, when I buy a raincoat, from lim ah boy $28 ones to OGK etc, I'd expected it to be there.

My 2008 no-hood Taichi Dryaster can still be used as a raincoat if I insist.

I go and buy a ram II or put NTUC plastic bag over my head

Thats my point.

The RS Taichi Drymaster has a hood that is permanently stitched on, and to get it out of the way you might fold it into the collar.

The Drymaster EX also has a hood. But its not permanantly stiched on. Instead, the user would be able to clip it on to the collar via buttons.

I got myself an RSJ230. I really liked the fitting of the jacket, and how it wasnt hot to wear.

Hopefully there wont come a time where i would have the opportunity to test out the protectiveness of the jacket, wink wink nudge nudge.

Over here, there's not many options for us bikers to pick from, when it comes to apparel and/or bike accessories.

A simple analogy would be supermarkets. Stuff that you may see sold in another country either isn't sold here, or is sold at a higher price -- both cases anticipating low demand for it.

...which i find that as a sore excuse. :nono:
