Apparel : RS TAICHI Riding Gears

Recommended Posts

Since there are many questions asked on rain gears, I think I wanna start this thread to answer all things related to rain gears, specifically RS TACHI rain gears.

I would like to focus on the disadvantage rather than the advantages of each model.

I let the sales people do teh sales talk.

Material:

main 3 types, PVC, Nylon and Goretex.

Advantage of each type:

PVC

Cheapest.

Light.

Nylon

Relatively cheap.

Tough.

Breathable with the correct membrane.

Goretex

Expensive.

Light.

Disadvantage.

PVC

Tears easily.

Not breathable, meaning you will get wet, from your own perspirations.

Hot.

Nylon

Expensive.

Requires proper maintenance/care.

Goretex

Expensive.

Requires proper maintenance/care.

I will be reviewing 3 RS TACHI Products.

RS TAICHI RAINBUSTER

material : PU coated Nylon

Toughness : 5/10

Compactness : 6/10

Waterproofness: 6/10

RS TAICHI RAINBUSTER is a very handy raincoats for our tropical use. Its compact, light, effective for normal rain and very durable. HIghly recommended as a starter rain coats to end all rain coats. Especially suitable for pillion who doesnt come into direct contact with rain. Very cooling and comfortable. Not suitable for cold night rains, might be a bit too cold for comfort. RRP S$80.

RS TAICHI DRYMASTER

material : PU coated Nylon - DRYMASTER

Toughness : 7/10

Compactness : 3/10

Waterproofness: 8.5/10

I love the RS TAICHI DRYMASTER best. It is the 1st raincoats I use which is very waterproof. It is very suitable for our tropical use becuase it feels like normal clothing after you wear them for a long time. DOnt worry about the outershell looks wet when in the rain, the inner shell is extremely waterproof. It is very soft yet durable as well. However, it is very bulky and thus you will need a proper storage spaces for it. Highly recommended as a final rain coat to end all rain coats. Very cooling and comfortable. Suitable for cold night rains, just nice for comfort. RRP S$125.

RS TAICHI DRYMASTER EX

material : PU coated Nylon - DRYMASTER EX

Toughness : 8.5/10

Compactness : 3/10

Waterproofness: 9.5/10

This is an improved version of RS TAICHI DRYMASTER. Why I dont like it much is because it is slightly heavier than the RS TAICHI DRYMASTER, but it is even more durable as the outer shell is ballistic nylon. I recommend this for the regular tourer who wants the best. Very cooling and comfortable. Suitable for cold night rains, just nice for comfort. RRP S$150ish special order only.

Common to all RS TACHI rain gears:

The groin area of their pants are not joined, but 1 piece of material by itself. It means more wastage of material but 100% wont tear. Meaning your pants will remain 100%, regardless of which model you buy, and it is durable as well.

Conditions of my recommendations.

1) Wear your rain gear properly. Pants 1st, then suits and then helmet.

2) Tighen all areas properly.

3) Buy the correct size. Too big, those velcro areas can never be tightened. Dont complain the water seep through. To osmall, your clothing will tear.

4) Dry yor rainsuits 1st by hanging them up before storage.

5) Maintain cleanliness of your suits.

6) Main thing in choosing your rainsuits is in trying them out. The neck area must be able to tighten very tightly. Dont buy from a shop that dont allow you to try.

7) NO bags, absolutelty nothing under the suits.

8) If buying for touring, please bring along your tour suits and wear the rain gear over your touring suits. Its the only way to buy.

For a sizing check:

I am 1.7m tall, 78kg. My neck is 15.5" and waistline is 36". I wear a RS TACHI DRYMASTER Medium size. It is the best fitting for me. However, I dont carry a bag or anything under the suits.

Please dont ask any additional questions like, "how much har?", "good or not?", "where to buy", "got my size or not?", "got mass order bo?","got discount bo?" ... etc ... all are answered here liao.

For further info, please contact MOTOWORLD, Mr. James. He is in charge of RS TACHI products.

Taichi makes great stuff, their raingear is among the best. Using the rainbuster myself, I am surprised you gave it such a low score on water resistance. It has not let in any moisture through the seams or fabric in whatever heavy rain that I have encountered. Perhaps it is only so in comparison to the even more superior Drymaster. I do agree the rainbuster material looks really thin and possibly fragile, but it has not develop any tears and is actually really cooling. I'll say the Rainbuster itself is hard to beat when compared to what the other brands offer.

I'll like to add that the baggy fit of the Taichi suit made alot of sense despite looking weird at first. It slips over leather suits and protective paddings with ease, even those with the hump at the back. For daily use, this gives an advantage of not creasing your office wear and even accomodates a regular sized backpack easily by adjusting the waist straps :thumb:

YES, I wish James of MOTOWORLD pays me to do tyhis, but no, he is a stubborn pig and he refuses to pay me even if I blackmail him I write all bad things about his products.

So, well, here is one unbiased review that took me 3 years to finalise.

Yes, I agreed, Rainbuster itself is hard to beat when compared to what the other brands offer. For waterproofness, wait till you try DRYMASTER. Simply out-of-this-world.

Rainbuster wont survive i n a stormfor a prolong period (> 1 hr), rider side, DRYMASTER will.

I know becos i stay bedok and my ex-gf (now wife) stay Woodland. Through and fro is about 1 hr. During 1 CNY, I went there under a storm and came back in the same freaking storm in my ex-Burgman AN400K2, no leaks what-so-ever. So many nites, we ride in some freak terrestial storm, no problems whatsoever. I was using the DRYMASTER, she is using the Rainbuster.

Thanks for your feedback ANR IMPEX.

Lets have a general feel of things, I rate all those PVC stuffs I had wore (and suffered in) : -1/10. Its purely a watse of $$. Not true to the spirits of riding. We want to be able to enjoy riding , even in the rain.

Yes, my standards are rather high.

Thanks for your concerns.

this 2 rain coats are great stuff

it keep me high and dry in some of the worst condition ever....

but too bad both of my rain coat was destroy when i meet a accident recently....

but the oni cons i have to say about the rainbuster is that

super heavy rain the rider sure to have blueblack

cos the materail is too thin

even at slow speed it is still painful

but all in all i would give tboth raincoats 4.5 /5 point...

dun mind the price cos the product you get is excellent

1 or 2 months ago, I've seen the RS Taichi Drymaster raincoat-cum-riding jacket on sale @ Motoworld, but now, it has been taken off the shelves and the saleslady said that they were not ordering any more into their shop.

What model is it and where else can I find it?

P.S.: It comes with arm and shoulder protectors and a space for an optional back protector. I believe bigwhizzkid bought 2 from there but has since been stolen.

yar, many people ride a bike cannot "afford" to pay for good quality stuffs.

I hope they will pay for their crimes in the end.

Anyway, I was requested not to review MotoWorld;s pricing.

Look for James there, he is in-charge of riding apparels.

If you want a protective jacket that doesn't rip off when you have a accident sliding along the tar road - get something with Cordura material because it got high abrasion resistance. Some of the jackets have Gore-tex material for breathability & water proof. But no abrasion resistance. Some jackets have Gore-tex material mostly , but Cordura patches at the elbows, shoulders and back where abrasions might happens. Some have Kevlar & Cordura interwoven for highest protection against abrasion.

The way & place where stitching of the different material & joints also matters alot during a accident.

And to protect your spine or arms from snapping into half, the jackets also have hard CE certified armour plates insertions in the back, elbow & shoulder. The purpose is for achieving impact resistance when you get flung from the bike and land on something hard.

Having decided what specifications you want, then start searching for the brand that meets all these criterias & your budget . It is not necessary to buy from expensive brands to meet your specs. There are also cheaper brands which can meet these specs and still give you the life saving protections.

Hey, that's cool info bro! I'll consider that for my next jacket purchase.

By the way, there's another MotoWorld right at Rochor Road, they sell the RS Taichi RSJ204 raincoat+protective riding jacket at $150.

Nice design, but too bad they don't have size S for males...
