guys,i got a problem.. my bike cant idle w/o throttling when started. idling when warmed around 1.4k. when starting after bike has been parked, cannot idle on its own. gotta hold throttle for a while before it can idle on its own. wad could be the cause?

1) as far as i can rembr.. it has been like dat since i serviced my carb. i serviced and re-tune carb a week aft i took over. cant rembr if the problem existed before carb was serviced.

 

i thot it was weak batt.. had batt and rectifier changed. but same problem.

 

2) it simply dies off. and i gotta press starter button again. and the cycle repeats. with choke pulled. same thing.

most common areas to check is ur carb settings. (Usually its the tuning). when warmed, is the idling stable? apart from that, the only prob u face is just idling? How abt throttle response, acceleration etc?

hey des, so after u hold the throttle for awhile den the bike never dies off?? if it is den most prob, is that the bike is still cold.

 

if even after the bike is already warmed up and it still dies, then its prob, like wat asan and nelson mentioned, is the tuning or theres a fault in the carb.

 

check ur choke and choke cable. maybe after u pull the choke, u forgot to push it back.

 

thats all the things i can think of for u...

I think he needs to be more specific with the "bike parked" part. As in, parked for how long? overnight or just 2-3 hrs kinda issue. Coz i had this prob b4 when i bought mine.

Regarding what beast said of the 4 rubber that covers the carb to the pistons, that will only affect the tuning of the air intake but for our friend here his case, seems i guess might need to take a look at his spark plugs as he needs to maintain throttle.

 

Gryffindor bro, what about when your on the move? do you feel your rpm meter not responsive and laggin or hanging at certain points?

Idling when warm at 1.4K is normal. As long its doesn't reach 1.6-2k when idling. Normally will not go up unless carb got big probs.

 

Back to your case, cold start without choke response. Simply two prob u may either have.

1) Spark plug or

2) Injection needle aka needle valve

 

U can push back to shop and ask them to check Spark plug 1st then injection. An experienced mechanic will tell u immediately what the prob lies. All 4 spark plugs must be of good quality (Some uses different batch of plug which causes your prob, different batch will have different in electrode gap) of the same batch. Take note of the center electrode and side electrode gap. All 4 plugs must be the same. All 4 plugs must also have the same amount charred black carbon. If any variations, means there is electrode unrespond. Just change a good set of plugs with all 4 having the same distance in the GAP.

Next, if the plug wasn't the problem. Injection needle valve actually regulate precise the flow of fuel. Any wear and tear of the tip or plunger of the needle valve will actually cause irregular throttle control, idling rpm and unresponsive to choke. The needle are locate at the Jet.

Personally, I have encounter such problems in my previous bike also from Super4, SYM Scooter and Fireblade. I help this help.

The rubber cover aka rubber seal purpose is to seal up the creat air vaccum for dispersion of fuel and air. Lost in the vaccum pressure aka negative air pressure will result in in proper fuel and air mixture, this cause inproper combustion and irregular RPM. Rubber seals for us V4 or 400cc come in the set of 4.

 

Usually, when needle valve is changed, the rubber seals is also will be change. Rubber tend to get harden and crack more easily.

Actually i think is kinda standard if you parked ur bike overnite and have difficulty start due to its engine is cold. i also need to press start quite couples of times ( mostly with choke pulled at times ). But initally u got my bike, 2 times and it will not dies off. now i gonna press like 4-5 times
