purpose of bus lane is to facilitate smooth travelling of buses, but in crowded situation, bikes r able to squeeze thru n not cause obstructions.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

Hmmm... So.. What are you trying to point out? Bike not to travel on bus lane and continue weaving in and out?

My opinion is, if any other vehicle is not allowed on the bus lane, then bike shud not be allowed either.. Else there will be double standard..

it's the purpose of the rule: facilitate the smooth flow of bus.

in a crowded situation, won't u agree weaving between traffic is dangerous? thus if bus lane is open to us, we use that lane, travel slow, c bus, just filter out.

we should only be fined

1) cause obstruction

2) not giving way to buses while in the lane

so if bikes can't cause inconviences to buses, y arnt we allowed? besides the new rule of stopping for bus exiting is even more contradicting. how do u judge bus is exiting? i've seen buses stopping very front at bus bays picking up passengers and signalling right. so u just blur stop there n wait 2-3 min while the bus happily pick up passengers?

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

i think it's just the LTA way of saying get out of the bus lane to the other motorists.. but anyway.. i rather ride at the other lanes.. the bus lanes are so damn rough and bumpy like riding on dirt track.. and i don't fancy riding near the buses as a rider we are small and i'm afraid the bus drivers can't see me risking my safety..

i guess u rather squeeze with cars n risk them hitting or u hitting them than riding slow on a clear rough bumpy dirt track.

if cars do that, they will cause obstruction to buses eventually n they can't easily switch lanes, while bikes can squeeze btw lane.

Once bus lanes are an island-wide feature, LTA may want to increase their utilization rate -- by allowing other vehicles to use them on a limited basis.

Bus lanes are quite underutilized, IMO.

My answer is definitely a NO.

Like romeo69 mentioned, bikes are small and less conspicuous. It is definitely more dangerous than lane-splitting along normal lanes. If you've driven a bus before, you will find out that the field of vision for bus drivers is limited.

Plus, the chances of ending up under a bus is higher than ending up under a car.....*CHEH!!* (This thought just sent chills down my spine....)

that's when u avoid the lane when u spotted a bus from far, or slow down to let the bus exit 1st. i never squeeze any vehicle when they're moving.

btw, i'm just getting opinions if bus lane can be utilize, it's not for breaking the rules.

i m not for riding in bus lane but LTA must relook at their a55hole design of turning, damn short and hazardous.

i felt that bus lane are mainly for cyclist and buses. if include bikes, it won't serve it purpose...

if u were to notice, along east coast road. there are signs put up "cyclist ahead" ..

definately a NO for cyclist, they're always on the left side n very slow.

my point of view to allow for bikes is that bikes usually cut thru traffic n might be slower than cars. rather than cutting in btw cars, where they can anytime cut lane n slam into u, wont it be safer to travel in empty bus lane? besides bikes r not a hazzard to bus as we can squeeze out n not block them. that's beside the point of squeezing when they're moving, that's dangerous. usually when they stop at a bus stop, assuming there's no bay, they'll still keep left, leaving a lobang 4 u to go thru.

But then they'll have to make squeezing/filtering legal...

squeezing/filtering is not illegel in the 1st place. tp also squeeze/filter... :dot:

I was sure that squeezing was illegal... though it's not written out. Haven't riders been booked for 'inconsiderate driving' or whatever while squeezing and/or filtering? I would think if it was legal, RTA would explicitly say it (ala California), and then accidents wouldn't be rider's fault. Isn't it more like the PSB thing, just because they don't enforce, doesn't mean it's legal?

And if the TP does it, doesn't mean it is legal for us to do. I've seen TP sitting around 5-10min easy at the side of the road, double yellow line, just chatting. Obviously waiting for something, but look like an emergency where they were. Who is going to challenge them? Other than people crazy enough to get on the govt's bad side, of course...

And once you take away squeezing/filtering, bikes act in the same way as cars, according to the law... and the drivers will B&moan on that. ;)

If I'm wrong with this, though, please correct me. Always willng to learn. :)
