BTW, XJRers...

I met another chinese XJR owner at Ah Chong last week.

Apparently he been reading the reviews on the shop & decided to drop by to have his yellow XJR serviced.

Before i told him anything else, he mentioned about reading us here & also have seen our club webby.

So keep doing it right here, guys! They could be others like him, who reads the threads for info on the XJR & its shops!

I asked him to join us @ our meet-up in Tampines last week, but he politely declined, citing working night duties.

Hopefully he will join us soon!

Keep giving fair reviews, XJRs!

I was on the way to pick up my ma'am from work last Tuesday night, and a maroon 'FN' Fighting Spirits pulled up beside me at a traffic light junction at Yishun. The rider looked at me, I smiled to acknowledge him and then he sped off... Then I caught up with him at the next junction and we had a quick chat. He is an 'abang', someone in his early 40's, maybe, and he lives in Seng Kang... It was a quick chat before the light turned green, and this time, I sped off 1st along Lentor Ave.... I slowed down waiting for him to catch up before parting ways along the CTE towards TPE... It was awesome to watch a Fighting Spirits in full acceleration as my guess is, we both wanted to watch another Fighting Spirits at top speed. Personally, after seeing another stock Fighting Spirits accelerating away, it simply took my breath away... A muscle bike with raw power - a Fighting Spirits Unleashed!!!!

This morning, on the way to work, I saw ANOTHER, yes, ANOTHER Fighting Spirits... AT THE SAME JUNCTION in Yishun!!! This time around, it is a WHITE 'FT' plate Fighting Spirits. The rider is also another 'abang', my guess is, someone in his late 40s. He is dressed in an expensive-looking black Yamaha jacket, think it's the one sold at Hong Leong... Anyway, maybe he did, or maybe he did not notice me pulling up to his right, one lane away... So, as usual of the Fighting Spirits owners I have noticed, they LOVE speeding off at junctions (due to the powerful acceleration)... After speeding off about 30metres away, he slowed down, maybe because he noticed my white Fighting Spirits, so I horned at him, gave a friendly wave and overtook him... I was in a big rush, so I could not spare any time to chat... Hope I get to bump into him another day....

Fellow XJRians..

I just bought a 2nd hand XJR400 from a bike shop at UBI. FX plate with stock paintjob(blue racing spirit). I love this bike so far.. handles well, rides well.

But there's a growing concern over my bike's abnormally loud idling sound during startup and after bike's warmed up.. Is it normal for XJR? Or it's a funny feeling that something's wrong. A quick check with bike shop that i got the bike from but of not much help.. "Err, that's normal.. Usually noisy". But it seems like a PGMish loud rattling sound.

Care to help guys? If i wanna go for a diagnostic check, which shop would you guys recommend? Trusted true XJR mechanics of course..

@ BoyBulance/ Nash 1126.. thanks for giving me a bigger picture in choosing an XJR over an S4.

Congratulations bro!!! First off, is your bike the XJR Fighting Spirits? Or is it the newer 2002 XJR? If it is the Fighting Spirits, the noisy idling sound is normal... However, to ascertain your anxieties, you might wana head down to our trusted mechanic, Ah Chong 525 of Upper Serangoon... The first thing I did after getting my bike was to send to Ah Chong to 'assess' my bike... For my bike, he said something about 'clutch bush' but it does not warrant an immediate change... He tuned my carburettors and changed my spark plugs, and use 300V ($30) engine oil... It'll do wonders to the Fighting Spirits... Tell u wat, why don't you pm me your number, maybe we can meet up soon, I can have a look at your Fighting Spirits, and i can bring you to the mechanic? I am working shift in the ward now, so I'll be free this Thursday and Saturday after 4pm if you wana meet-up...

However, if yours is the newer (coz it's FX plate) XJR400R, it'll be advisable that you speak to xjrredbull as he will be in a better position to advice you.

PS: I have been noticing a blue FX XJR400R parked at SGH bike parking area ever since last week, but I haven't got the chance to meet the rider.... I was also hoping that he might have noticed my noticeably white XJR parked near his. By any chance, is that yours?

Correct me if im wrong but a blue XJR with a FX plate should not be the FIghting Spirits one. I think its the same as mine.

nash_1126, I had a look at the pic of ur blue XJR.... Reali nice!!! Furthermore, it is in mint and stock condition.... You don't have to do anything to make it stand out from a crowd of S4s, hehehe.....

PS: The XJR that I keep seeing at SGH is EXACTLY like yours!!! It's not yours, is it?

@BoyBulance: Thanks for your kind assistance.. Appreciate as always. I'll take note of your offer and will definitely keep you notified. Anyway, i'm pretty new in 2A category and it's wonderful to ride an XJR as a 1st bike of that cat so far.

Oh, my bike's outlook almost the same like Nash1126's bike except that i got a long handlebar to ride with. BTW guys, how do you differentiate between the two? As in older and newer model.. My console's non digital.. Ol school needle fuel gauge. Does that count as an older model? Knowing it's an FX plate...

Err... haha.. funny thought.. How do you guys open up the seat ehh?? Can't locate any keyhole or such. Sorry mates!! First timer ahh.. Belum season.

Thanks guys!! I know i could count on you guys..

halo bro.. congrats to u for choosing XJR as your chosen bike.. as quoted by boybulance, there's ekceli more XJR riders out there in SG road.. its just b'coz of its rareness make it quite difficult for us to notice it.. about the seat. its on the left side of the bike, at the rear tail, when u can see the helmet holder. insert ur key, turn it either to the left or right, if im not wrong bro... :cheeky:

Ops!! Guess I was wrong about it being 'FX'... It's actuali 'FZ'.... There!! Beautiful ain't it? Two generations of XJRs side-by-side.... (Quite lucky to get the lot beside his, after I helped a nurse friend back her bike out that lot..)

So boneyprominence, as u can see from the pic that I took, that is 2 generations of XJRs side-by-side...

yes yes.. all xjrs have analog speedometer and fuel gauge. If you want digital, can always add those on. For me personally, i added a GPS Navigator on my bike (see below)

http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/rr39/nash_1126/DSC03194-1.jpg

BoyBulance. I prefer my stuff to be originally stock coz I like the originality of it. Even my seat is covered in the stock upholstery. If I didnt need to have an extra helmet all the time, I would not have put the box. THe only sticker that is on my bike is the XJR Grp sticker and some "ayat". (of coz, all these is probably gonna change soon). anyway, i dun have much cash to upgrade my bike in the first place. Light fixtures are the only one i can add manually since i study electronics.

anyway, the bike's pic u took is actually a newer model as compared to mine. (i tink ah!)

boneyprominence, looks like we 2 have the same model. Can't wait to meet ya! Ya, the seat opener is the same as the helmet holder. I had trouble finding that out too when i first got my xjr.

all XJRs, the Fighting Spirits & XJR400R uses 'old school speedometers', with needles & all that.

U are not alone with longer handle bars & it has its advantages, if u ask me. I been using tag metals handles since 04 & it has helped me in many more ways than i can remember. of late, yamamotomaniac have just installed a fatbar on his XJR & he is loving it!!!

Though, when it come to traffic mad-rush, u may have problems squeezing thru the vehicles, cos it always gives me a 'big-shoulder with wings feel' whenever i ride.

FYI, we have monthly XJR meet-ups on every 3rd Saturday of the month, the next being on 20th June 09.

This is when the Club members congregate, meet to discuss about technical thingy & talk about XJRs.

boneyprominence, i can assist you & do a first screen bike test if u want? :shy:

I did a 'sound PGMish test' on boybulance's & BOWIE's bike before, so i know a fair bit.

Trust me, i have my share with the 'PGMish sound', before & after.

Thereafter, we go have a cup or two coffees & we can talk all about Yamaha XJR bikes, the club & the members!

And we could take you to see our chief mechanics together (or vice versa.)

Afterall, we are a small small club with a big heart.

Anyway, have fun with the rare beauty, Yamaha XJR.

Ubi ATAN may help you(but they get their XJR stocks from Hong Leong Ubi).

They mentioned a few months ago that a new XJR machine price is at about$12,500.

Call Atan Motoring at 67431351 & speak to Lim. He may be of a help.

Hi Bull & Sham and all XJR club members!

This is the plastic repair website I am talking about, http://www.urethanesupply.com/howtorepair.php.

I am using the "Two-Part epoxy adhesive" (Method E) althrough the best method, I believe is by using "Insta-Weld adhesive" (Method D). Pls see Youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stO4pDw4L94

The problem with Method D is that the "Insta-weld adhesive" is not easily available in Singapore (Do tell me if you know a source), thereas 2-parts epoxy adhesive is readily available in any DIY shop. Pls also note the part on the plastic primer. A shop at Eunos Ind Park has an identical product together with the auto-paint.

This repair method is different from "fiberglass repair" which we have talk about. Beside the usual plastic material used on our bikes are ABS, http://www.urethanesupply.com/street.php and "low density polyethylene (PE)" for dirt bike, http://www.urethanesupply.com/dirtbikes.php.

Cheers!

Monday thru Wednesday? How sad!! On Thursday, 4 June 09, Mr Foo and I are planning for the Ulu Bendol, Seremban trip... We postponed it last month due to bad weather, so we are aiming to ride up north this Thursday instead...

Anyway, yesterday, Saturday 30 May, I invited Mr Foo to meet up with the Diversion Club members... And I have a surprise to post here... TADA!!!!! The new Fuel Injected XJR 1300!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I have finally seen the XJR400R (mine), XJR1300 (Spannry's), XJR1300 (Mr Haron's new Fuel Injection model - think he's the one riding the 1st one brought into Singapore), and the sexy DIVERSIONS all parked together!!!!!!!!

First of all, my greatest respect to my mentor, Mr Haron... I have seen him a couple of times along Thomson Road in the morning, but we never had a chance to chat coz he was just too fast... Anyway, he had seen me before, and so when we met during the Diversion meetup, we were already familiar with each other....

Let me explain why he is now my reveared mentor:

1. First, he RODE a Fighting Spirits before (FP plate) - the moment he saw mine, he assessed my bike and gave me a few tips. Further in the night, a convoy of XJR400, XJR1300 (FI) and the Diversion 900 rode up to JB to have nasi lemak...(Finally got to see the XJR and Divvy ride together as a convoy). During the JB ride, he adjusted my revs and guided me on a maximum speed test run to clear carbon.... I hit 160km/h (with pillion)... YEEEEEHAWW!!!!! We will be planning another maximum speed run again, this time, without pillion...

2. After riding the XJR400, he bought a first-hand Diversion... and joined the Divvy club (JENG JENG JENG!!!!!) He is one of the most popular figures in the Club... His presence, jokes and comments made the Club members crack in laughter again and again.... Before he arrived, they were already singing praises of him, telling me to await the arrival of the rider of the new XJR1300...

3. He sold off his Diversion to buy the new XJR1300 recently coz he said the Diversion was 'under-powered'... He wanted something with more raw power... When he arrived, the Diversion guys were swooning over the XJR1300... Comments like 'I love the engine block' and 'I wanna have the XJR engine on the Divvy' were heard...

4. Now, he's planning to sell off the XJR1300 and buy the FJR1300 which is of course, the ultimate Yamaha bike.... I overheard Spanrry having a chat with him about selling XJR and buying FJR, etc, etc.... hehe....

5. With all the similarities and passion for similar bikes, he is now my mentor when it comes to Yamaha bikes....
