The Suzuki DR-Z400 is a dual purpose motorcycle. It is powered by a single-cylinder, 398 cc four-stroke engine. Its reliability, low price and decent performance have made it a popular dual-sport choice around the world.

Mix in street-legal capabilities and unmatched handling. For exceptional performance on the street, the DR-Z400SM offers remarkably smooth performance, along with a rush of torque across the powerband. For crisp handling, it features a lightweight, compact design, complemented by advanced suspension front and rear, including an RM250-derived inverted fork

The Suzuki DR-Z400SM is an excellent bike for beginners / commuters - cheap to run and maintain, easy to drive in town

What I have done on my Suzuki DRZ400SM:(DO THESE AT YOUR OWN RISK)

- Leo Vince Endcan

- EBC Brake Pads

- CE Moto Handguards

- DRC Edge-2 LED Tail Light

- DRC Signal Light

- Clutch safety switch removed

- Side-stand safety switch removed

- Pair System removed

- Helmet Lock removed

- MCCT

- CFC Case Shields

- Radiator Mesh

- Exhaust Slider

- Acerbis Front Fender

- JD Jetting for Mikuni BSR36 (Haven't fix yet, still in package)

- NGK Iridium Spark Plug CR8-EIX

- Radiator & Coolant Reserve using Engine ICE

- Michelin Pilot Power Tires (120/150)

- DID X-ring chain

- Vortex Sprocket

- FP Plus & STP Fuel Additives Used

- Latest Fuel Consumption: 25.5 km/L

My Recommendations

Tires:

Bridgestone BT090 120/60-17 150/60-17 or 160/60-17

Pirelli Diablo 120/70-17 150/60-17 or 160/60-17

Dunlop Alpha 10 120/70-17 150/60-17 or 160/60-17

Michelin Pilot Power 120/70-17 150/60-17 or 160/60-17

Still can use other tires for rear like BT16, BT21, BT45, Sportec M1 or M3, Pirelli Diablo Rosso also can, depending on individual.

Bike Servicing

Basic servicing like service carburetor every 6 months and yearly servicing can keep the bike in good running condition.

Engine Oil: Semi-syn change every 2000km

Fully-syn change every 4000km

(Can + up to 1000km)

Oil Filter: Change every 2-3 EO change

Air Filter: Service once a year or every 40,000km

Coolant: Flush at least once a year

Brake Hose: Bleed every 14-18 months

Fork Oil: Change every 2 years or 20000km

Change spark plug when faulty, spark plug can last at least 10000km.

Change chain and sprocket at least once a year, can last more than a year if u clean and lube your chain periodically.

Other basic maintenance can be done periodically.

Please do not quote me or argue about my servicing intervals.

You might have different servicing intervals due to different riding conditions, different riding techiques or track racing.

This is a just rough guide for newbies to DRZ.

Many swear upon Arrow header but it's illegal on paper.

for KTM headlights, you can try Auntie and Ideal.. not cheap, in the $200++ region.

for husky ones, you can try asking Sporting Motors..

Acerbis does have oversize tanks.. other brands like IMS, Clarke also had them in bigger capacity..

The biggest is Safari 28L, costs abt $1k..

cost for 15/18L litres ranges abt $300++

Hi guys good day.. I am pretty new to drz, did my homewerk n research abt the bike... But nothing beats a 1st hand opinion fr current owners..... Although i am oso driving nothing beats a 2 wheeeler..

I started ard 15years ago with Yamaha tzr, Px150, KTM 620 Duke, Suzuki SRAd 750, Suzuki TL1000R, Honda Africa TWin 750, Honda Blackbird 1100, Suzuki SRad K1, Honda Goldwing (forgot which year, ride it for a month only, can't get use to it), Honda XR 250, KAwasaki 900, Honda CBR 954rr, KTM 250 Motard setup and lastly Gileria Sp Runner....

I bought a DRZ K8 ($10k machine price after paperwerk @$11k) last fri, it is 8mths old, FBC 8**7 external wise looking good, tested the bike seems ok to me..

Items on bike,

1. KTM fender

2. KTM Headlight

3. Acrebis handguard

4. GPR exhaust

5. Headers not oem, need to find out wat brand lar bike shop dunno.

6. Full Decals

7. DRC tail lights with signals

8. Venhill brake line hose

9. Full sliders

Dats all i can tink of, and see, internals not sure anything was done... If there is a meet up of fellow DRZ owners maybe i cld join u guys and u guys can tell me more. Advice me on accessories and where to get it. Servicing which shop n etc....

Things i wanna change/upgrade, maybe a full system Yoshi, FCr, 3x3, maybe change my brake line hose to a coloured HEL/Goodridge now its a black venhill and modify my iu unit...

Thank u for reading dis long thread, can sms me at 98243635...

venhill not good enuff meh?

maybe u can get HEL at unique motorsports. got it cheap at 130 inclusive of installation.

Full system yoshi motoworld (yoshi got 2 designs, both legal)

FCR can get from slacksrider

3x3 most scrams shop will do

if u wanna track ya bike, advise to get 2nd hand, in case ya bike may sleep on the track.

Yoshi FS is good!!

FCR = i also tempted to buy, but decided to slowly upgrade..

3X3 = can DIY.. i got the tools and materials, if you are into DIY.

mod IU unit = to detachable type?? DIY, no problem..

I've saved your number, will let you know if we had any outings.. usually quite frequently..

venhill: front brake line a bit short to my preference.

Yoshi: the Tri-cone is out of production, unless 2nd hand. now only oval cone, loudest street legal.. even inspector from inspection centre got shocked..!!

FCR: i reserved my views from getting at slack, but best FCR is from TT, which had everything included for conversion. for me, stock BSR36 first.. slowly upgrade..

3X3: very simple to DIY, dun need waste money..

as for track, i had yet offically done any session..

my Zee is for bling!! haha..
