Well, this time, the meetup was very eventful, it literally didn't go according to plan....

It was raining that night, and Nasir was stuck in the jam at Tuas. By the time the downpour settled, and we moved off from GP Petronas, it was about 11.30pm.

During transit, the convoy practically fell apart.... The lead bike and the first few bikes went speeding away, leaving the rest behind....

A few of us stayed back to keep the convoy together, as we were concerned that pekingman (who is following us for the first time), lose his way...

To cut the story short, the ones that stayed back and ended up lost were:

1. BoyBulance

2. Raziel

3. Edmund

4. Salim Bashar

5. Faizal STX

Ironically, we slowed down for pekingman, but we lost sight of him and everybody else, but eventually we found out he made it safe and sound to Kulai Nasi Lemak... ;)

As for us, we backtracked, kept a tight convoy, making sure we were within sight of each other,

and to cut the long story short, we ended up in Simpang Renggam, Malacca...

It was already about 1.30 am by then, so we decided to cancel Kulai and make our way back to Singapore.

However, not all is lost...

We managed to salvage the situation, we rode back towards JB and had a late supper in Pandan City. Faizal STX didn't join us as he is entering Singapore via Tuas and he is working the morning shift that morning.

We had a great chat over supper, and we left there about 3.30am.

Based on the last meetup, I thought I would like to open a feedback post-mortem session to look into what went wrong and how it could be improved the next time round:

1. When the convoy moved off, the first few bikes went speeding away, and failed to slow down for the rest of the convoy to catch up. This led to a big gap in the convoy, causing the rest to struggle to keep up. As we were travelling at night and travelling at top speed on a wet weather surface, this is a serious safety lapse.

2. When the convoy is not kept in a close staggered formation, the effectiveness of the headlights is drastically reduced, and also enabling other vehicles to squeeze into the convoy.

Anyway, this is my view, as I hope that safety becomes the first priority and travelling close together keeps a convoy tight and we can look out for each other.

To summarise my point, let's learn something from nature, safety in numbers, especially during migration, just like,

Someday, I hope that Team Diversion riders will ride this way....

Convoy.jpg

and maintain a staggered formation whenever possible.....

Staggered-Formation.jpg

We were able to achieve that after we were separated from the main convoy to Kulai all the way back to Singapore....

And to see a Diversion convoy in close formation that night, esp after we entered Singapore, we were head-turners..... We were simply - AWESOME!!!!!

Maybe we can spend some time reading the tips from the website via the link below, the education is priceless, and you may never know when one of the tips there may actually SAVE YOUR LIFE (or someone else's)!!!

Deep down, I was pretty disappointed that we got left behind just like that.... It's as though the lead never bothered to check on the riders behind... And the sweeper - the other rider who knows the route, is waaaaay in front chasing the lead and did not stay back and check on pekingman (he was the last guy and struggling to keep up).... :(

That's why after we were separated, I volunteered to lead, told everyone to keep close and watch for each other...

At least if we reach, we reach together, if we get lost, we get lost together.... :thumb:

Dear diversioneers

I agree with boybulance's comments. Anyway I was totally lost and I visited places like ulu tiram, danga bay, nusajaya, almost went to senai airport, almost went to tampoi, got lost again in skudai......and finally I saw the light somewhere that says JURONG!!!! Total milege clocked - 60kms, time spent - 1.5hours.

Experience - Quite scary!! Travelling solo in the lightless night....... worrying kenna rape(still got value lah) or something worst in the middle of nowhere and darkness.

Anyway, it's a lesson worth learning and applies to all other groups who may want to travel oversea.

For your info I had mee-pok at Paris!!!!

Cheers!!! and no hard feelings yah, hope we can do it again....right this time!!!

Sam, are u saying that u never made it to Kulai Nasi Lemak? U spent that night riding around Johor ON YOUR OWN? Does it mean that the news we received that u were already eating nasi lemak at Kulai wasn't true?? :(

When we regrouped after we were left behind, we backtracked coz we hoped to find you.. I assumed that u may have missed the exit and continued north, that's how we ended up in simpang renggam, malacca...

On behalf of Team Diversion, I apologise that you had a bad experience that night... So far, this is the first time this has happened ever since I joined the group... On most convoy rides, Bats led the way. Without a good lead rider, we literally became lost sheep that night...

Maybe at the next ride, we should consider conducting a safety briefing and appointments before we embark on any trip... There is no point in regretting only after a mishap has occurred... It was fortunate that the riders who were left behind that night returned to Singapore safely...

Yes, boybulance, I WAS ALL ALONE wondering in JB towns(alot of towns). I went into one road in total darkness....no car/motorbike to follow or bus/lorry. No nasi lemak smell...only cricket, grasshopper, trees, grass etc!!!

I was praying to all the gods along the way lah!!! It works!!!

Anyway, the news that you heard I was eating nasi lemak......must be my spirit lah!! Or someone else eeeeeeee!

From all this saga....my next toys will be GPS, hand grenade, gun, rambo knife (in case I got lost again)...just joking, actually the GPS is my next toy.

No need to apologise lah! Just make sure the next outing will be planned according to what you've suggested..

Good Day!!

I was looking forward to eating the Kulai nasi lemak that day, and since the lead rider spectacularly spoiled our trip, i am thinking of organising a proper one this time.. I am planning to recce the route with a couple of team player riders, and collectively appoint a safe and responsible rider to lead Team Diversion... Think it's about time we have a safe n disciplined riding system...
