The battery charging current is limited not by voltage, but by a fuse, usually 30amps. Its located right at the bottom of the bike, below the battery area (For 749/999s)

A rectifier's job is to convert the AC voltage from the alternator to DC Voltage. It will smooth the DC waveform and limit voltage to 14volts.

When the electrical system is overloaded, the voltage will drop, so having a good voltmeter can detect potential problems with the electrical system. Note that the voltmeter must be wired properly, I've seen as much as 3volts difference between a cheap Voltmeter and measuring using my Fluke Digital multimeter.

To save battery, I usually turn off all lights before entering the carpark. WHen starting the bike, i'll make sure the headlight is not on, only turning them on when I reach the mainroad. The Euro type right hand switches is a fantastic upgrade and should be on all bikes.

awwww... sorry for the mix up from me... juz checked out the dictionary, the word "rectify" means to correct a ac current to a dc current in electrical terms:cheeky:

and so using the voltmeter to check the condition of the rectifier is to see whether it's doing the job of converting ac to dc sufficiently to charge the batt. no or little charging means its life is up?

so how did the batt gets overcharged? which electrical component's faulty? how does the fuse as neo mentioned limit the charging? wun it blew should the bike rev up high? all along i thought there's some kind of gadget to restrict the amount of charge going into the batt...

Hi bro, u can also explore the terms half-bridged retifier and full-bridged retifier in the net. There will be a "filter" which smoothen the charging cycles. Good luck

So you going in to ride on the CBR600RR? Why not the Duc??? We could have a fun time together, since it's gonna be the exact platform. I could learn something from ya.... :thumb: I gave up trying to chase Damien.....cannot make it on the straights compared to his, with his little mods here and there.... :sian:

Hi, I'm new to this. Finally had the courage to register after looking at all the good info on Ducatis. BTW anyone know of 996 Bostrum replica ?

Posted

I've seen one before, but not sure if its a 996 or 998. It could have been a 998S Bostrom...

I really hope to share some experience with u too. But the problem is, u are the old bird, i am the new bird. How can a new bird teach a old bird anything! :cheeky: haha! No lar just joking.

Even though i never manage to get a taste of the track today, but i would say, the trip there has not gone wasted. Cos i learnt so much abt the bike today from u guys, especially from Damien. Kaoz, he is a walking Ducati Manual so far i have met, man! Very resourceful. Lets hope the next session will be more fun. But in the mean time we can arrange for coffee session also!
