Problems? Aluminum basket high wear lor. Performance gain (which ALL of us do not need) or basket longevity... you choose

You already pointed out the answer. Longevity of course. Understand you have tried couple of brand clutch.

Possible to share where you normally get them from? It seem barnett is the cheapest among all but also the most bad comment among all too.

If u use alum basket and alum plates (eg barnett and surflex) they last longer then stock and not as noisy...

Hi dodobird, the newer duc comes with alum basket le, so maybe i could use that and get a set of new plate to complete it. What is your view on barnett plates?

Well done bro. Very nice. With a cover as open as this, u need to complete the picture with a nice pressure plate. If u like silver, gray look, consider this :)

Thanks Conjurer for showing me your clutch plate stabilizer, here's what i came up with.

Not too flashy...

Oh i didnt realised they came with alum baskets. U dun wanna hear steel hitting steel. Its louder wif a higher pitch then any exhaust.

I personally will go wif the surflex sintered plates. Last as long as stock , quite, and bites.

Barnett has the same life as the dp plates. Hearsay is that they are 1 of the same.

Ok, will google on the surflex sintered plates.

Frankly i am lost as got so many option and choices. Single brand alone comes with sintered, organics plates. Alu and steel. Headache......

Thanks bro! Yes, it gotta be silver plate to blend in, and the challenge is finding a design that is not too modern and garang as this is afterall a 1990s bike, so that's y i am quite pleased to use back the stock plate for now.

bro, not for argument purposes, I agree with you that Dr Ray has installed 2 bikes with barnett and surprisingly they both have mentioned slipping. but i also know of more then 5 bikes including my previous ride that run the barnett without that problem. I felt the reaction was better then faster then OEM. just didnt last la.

But if u are running slipper clutch, the barnetts are not compatible to them. OEM will work better for you in that case I suppose.

FYI OEM are steel plates. If the new baskets are alum, then the wear of the basket will be faster compared to the plates.

anyway just my 2cents...

I'm running a set of plates by this German brand called Newfren. So far so good, but I cannot comment on how long they last since I just got them. I read quite a lot of negative comments on Barnett clutches on multiple forums (which is the cheapest), so I decided to go with Newfren instead.

Posted

there's a lot to read about clutches on the internet... go google it.

This is my point of view...

Having ridden a 996r_engine (136bhp stock)

My mate riding a 748 (95bhp)

both without slipper clutch

Sintered clutch plate works best (#19020042A, Stock item for the 998s!!!) expensive & is steel.

The standard 916/748 plates are a whole lot cheaper, works with the 748 but on the 998 it slips and the wear rate is very high. (approx 30~45% compared to the sintered) and it's made of steel.

So after running 3 sets of sintered and 1 sets of stock(916/748) it had left by basket with 2mm clearance.

i'd reckon...

use sintered plates for bikes more than 123bhp any thing less you'd get away with the standard 916 ones

After I have the slipper clutch on I ran with aluminium plates (barnett i think) so far the basket looks fine although there's slippage. about 5000km now and I'm due for a change soon.

We're not running a race team so $$$ also counts other than performance. Factor the cost of friction plates (they do sell seperate), baskets, springs, backing plates (these comes with fiction plates AFAIK). Running a slipper and standard (stock or after-market) your considerations are different when $$$ comes into the picture.

That's why I had advice folks NOT to use slipper clutches if they have no need for it. You're looking at double the running cost!

There's more to this after the $$$$ has been considered and its hard to type it all down here. Be at the marina on saturday and I'll tell you more.

I think I may be about 10-15 mins late for this ride since going with my family to do voting together in the morning. Hope there's no inconvenience caused to anyone.

HELLO BRADER

U THE VIDEO MAN,U CANNOT B LATE ????

OK OK ,GIVE CHANCE !

ANYWAY,VOTE WISELY.

O-Y-H

Yes bro... I guess fesa was just too excited and got carried away when posting about the ride. I must say its not easy to organise a ride after going for the recce ride that day. He always try to make things swee swee such that there will be no hiccups (i.e. ample parking space, water points, etc). He even archives all rides by printing out all the group photographs.

But of course, if you feel uncomfortable with riding on that day then I truly understand your point of view as well. Let's not have any hard feelings within this small riding community that we took time to build. Cheers and ride safe guys.

Hi Guys,

I get lost with the meet up if it happens or not and where, could someone send me a PM with an update on the ones to come?

I just finished fitting my Rizoma parts on the bike, fitting the handlebars aint easy its not really plug ang play as rizoma pretented it was.

But Minerva was extremely helpfull in fitting all the parts not to say extremely reasonable as well on the price, Thumbs up for them.

A few bad quality pics to show off.

By the way i might want to sell this bike if anyone is interested.

I has quite a bit of accessories and parts and more are coming, to those who've already seen it , they can attest of the quality others can view it at the next outing.

Price not really decided but will not sell at a discount, it only has 8000km.

PM me if you're interested.

Hi Guys anyone interested in a Clutch cover: Ducati Performance Billet Aluminum / Carbon.

http://www.ducatiperformance.com/images/969943AAA.jpg

Slightly scratched.

Make me an offer: price on ducati performance website 320 USD.

Some might have seen it on my bike last friday.

Now that you are ready to clean each others bikes in bikinis, a little smile shouldn't shock anyone....

This is the least i would expect.....

meng47,

Nice new clutch set up!! The gold pressure plates doesnt over kill the redness for sbk models.. in my opinion..

Thks bro!

I find the gold color stands out in the sea of red. My previous plate is red n i personally tink itz too much.

It all started with my gold STM clutch slave... Haha!!!
