That's a very interesting idea.....any modifications needed to throw in that battery??? I wanted a smaller dry cell when my battery screwed up last yr (I pushed from the industrial near Kallang Bahru swimming pool to Minerva Workshop and almost dropped my bike inside the shop....lucikily Eugene helped me support the bike. I'm too tired already), but need to mod the battery bracket, so I opt for the OEM YUASA wet cell :sian: Boring, once in a month have to check battery water.... :cheeky:

Gold Wing uses a wet or dry cell??? Why is it better than the stock Yuasa??

You and I same same bike.....I'm very interested, kekeke.

Yo brothers,

Anybody interested in getting a red, lightened 48T STM clutch basket.

Very new. Bought from Sporting. Sale includes new STM clutch plates too. Last much longer than original Ducati OEM

Fits all dry clutches dukes.

Pros & Description:

STM's unique 48 tooth basket can be used on all Ducati clutches.

The classic red anodized basket is made of tough 7075 aerospace alloy, its weight being less than 14 ounces.

With four times the contact surface of the traditional 12 tooth basket and with the contact surface machined at a precise pressure angle, wear of the basket is substantially reduced - making this the best lightweight solution for street use.

Furthermore it contributes to the improvement of the alignment of the disk pack.

Going at Half-price only. I am thinking of getting a slipper clutch. Interested? Kindly leave your name/contacts in my inbox. Thanks

Bro, you getting the slipper clutch after you get rid of this STM or die die will get the slipper clutch???

I'm interested, but $1K gone due to slave cylinder and sprocket/chain replacement....no money already. My dry clutch also quite worn....not only the plate, but also the basket too... :nono:

My Duc I repairing until wanna die already.....

It's a mechanical noise inside your fuel tank, should be able to hear.

If it doesn't prime, forget abt it.

If it primes, does the starter motor cranks when you press the E-start?

You can try push-starting. (Hopefully it's a dead/flat battery.)

How old is the battery anyway?

I managed to push-start my ST4 with side box though I almost fainted from

exhaustion.

Yeah had a hard time pushing start my 998 once. Had to to it in 4th gear!!! wheel locking up 3rd!!! had to sit by the road for 5 minutes or so till my breath returns...that's why since then 1 change the batt after every 2-2.5 year without fail.:faint:

Hi tRUST! I did had a problem with the starting part too!

I had installed a voltmeter. The reading can goes up to

14 or 15v. I monitor the charging cycle n realise that

"on the move" charging is slightly above 13v~14v. On

normal day, it takes 2 push on the start button, understand

from the previous owner the first attempt is to pump the

fuel to the cab, second attempt, the engine will start kickin!

Remember he mention the bike is not able to push start

incase of electric failure, cos the fuel pump require electric

to function. Had learn my lesson the hard way, had a failure

at a basement carpark B3, 3 of us push all the way upz to

level #1. Sweat :faint:

the time has finally come when i think im ready to be able to afford a 2nd hand 996.. thus i'm seriously considering to get one in a couple of months time. thus I really need some cool advice from you guys..

1) anyone just bought a 996 recently? need to know roughly the market rate now..

2) recommend mileage for valve adjustment? at wat cost for the service including the shims and labour charge.. how about timing belt and tensioner?

3) servicing of injectors.. how frequent and at wat cost?

4) 996 version is from the year 2000 to 2001?

5) any other form of servicing that is a killer besides the valve valve adjustment?

>>1) anyone just bought a 996 recently? need to know roughly the market rate >>now..

996 advertised for 17.9k, a 996 SPS for abt 19.8km, a 916 for abt 14k.

>>2) recommend mileage for valve adjustment? at wat cost for the service >>including the shims and labour charge.. how about timing belt and tensioner?

Getting my valve adjustment done at 40,000km soon.

Michael Chong from Kallang quoted $250 but most probably I'll get mine done at

Minerva which should cost more.

Pair of timing belts costs abt $140, change intervals varies, manual says 20,000km change or 2 year whichever first. Some change at 10,000km.

>>3) servicing of injectors.. how frequent and at wat cost?

Have got no idea but I use fuel injector cleaner. (STP, FP60) which I hope it helps.

Injectors are pretty easy to take out, but dunno whether can be dismantled or not.

Read somewhere in this forum use ultrasonic cleaning.

>> 4) 996 version is from the year 2000 to 2001?

Can't really recall from which year but I think 996 was introduced in 1999.

>>5) any other form of servicing that is a killer besides the valve valve adjustment?

I think once the valve system is bedded in, you do not need that much of any adjustment. Was told that normally, for valve adjustment, just open and check whether need to adjust and very often, not adjusted.

I think the "killer" is the timing belt change at every 20,000km intervals or sooner

depending on the condition of the belts.

And also the clutch system, being dry clutch and that is if you can bear with the

noise(it will grow louder and louder as the wear and tear grows)

Stock steel basket costs abt $250. Clutch plates pack abt $250 as well I think.

Other than the timing belts and clutch system, everything is relatively as per normal bike maintainance. (engine oil, brake systems, coolant etc etc)

Hope the above info helps.

Perhaps more 916/996/998/999 owners can feedback as well. :cheer:

Any luck getting the bike to start?

Will try to see whether sparks from the plug too.

And grounding is proper.

Use the choke lever or throttle a bit when starting from cold.

Maybe also could be a split fuel line hose from the fuel pump which is inside

the fuel tank.

Er... Send to bike shop?

Hi,

Yes, thats my monster.

Yes, it has been @ Kallang Cycle for a while... like 3 & 1/2 years.

Yes, I believe we are talking about the same one.

How did you get your underneath seat exhaust fitted?

Any mods to the headers required?

Any mods required to fit the single arm swingarm onto the monster?

A lot of work, time & $$$ involved. The mods cost more than the bike itself. Not to sound cynical but you will have to be committed to (mental institution?) take on this kind of a project. More details are available at the this website:

http://www.ducatimonster.org/smf/index.php...ic,38303.0.html

Fabrication and welding involved. Need to cut off header (4 valves) and weld on the stock header (2 valves). Will need a single-sided swingarm; can't fit on stock swingarm. To fit single-sided swingarm, need to shave the engine casing.

Really cool. Don't think possible to go with a underneath seat exhaust look for my ST4 without going single-sided swing-arm and minimal work/fuss.

I think you must be pleased with the outcome.

Whom you got in touch with to do all the welding/fabricating?

Was thinking of making my exhaust 2 into 1.....
