Hi bro....why not get a cheap Vespa for a starter?Save some bucks and search around bike shops.Don't just jump into commitments just because your friends of your age are having nice big bikes and chicks!I remember my first bike was an old Vespa PX i took over from my uncle.Back in 1994 when i got my class 2b,my dream is to own a Kawasaki KDX200SR but too bad, situation doesn't allows me to own one.So Vespa is my way of my life during that time.

Take your time, learn the road, study road users behaviour cos some of their driving skill is so unexplanably outrageous that they could kill you!Especially if you just had your license, you're bound to be vulnerable on the road.

Need to factor in petrol, maintenance and maybe parking too every month, on top of the monthly installments for the bike. Better to save up and not get yourself into a sticky situation.

$300 can get yourself a very good Mountain Bike!

19 years old & still P-Plate... Don't talk about downpayment... ... I think $300 may not even be enough for insurance...

No $$$, dont buy a motorcycle.

Simple as that.

We have seen countless posts about people who simply dont have $$$ to buy a bike, yet whine and complain when the bike was towed away and such.

A waste of time for everyone involved.

i can understand how you feel.

when all others persuade you to stop, you'll feel uncomfortable. i went through the same.

just do your sums and try. but you need to do enough research. your road tax is a least $750 already. :)

i'm 22. i paid 660 for insurance, 32 for road tax, 30+ for ownership transfer, 800 for a problem bike, spent another $400 on servicing already, going to spend amother $250 to do overhaul. i like it, and i don't regret. but if i'm able to travel back the time, i'll probably go get a 1.3-1.4 problem free bike. LOL~!

but still, no regrets. its my first bike, even i see many flaws now, it's my wife and i love it. :)

so even if you ride 1 month, 2nd month kena tow back, you feel its worth, then go ahead. once you try, then you know how it is. :)

but honestly, i don't know how far $300 can get you though. and yeap, most bike shops will at least want you to pay up the insurance amount coz that's paid to the 3rd party upfront, unlike the bike itself its their own capital. so many try saving up to your insurance amount, then try again.

Regards,

Maestro

hmm... all i can say is get an RXK with the COE almost ending for $200-$300. get your dad to use his credit card to buy NTUC insurance and pay by installments. and you're ready to go. at least with a bike, you can use it to earn good money.

for me, i bought a bike with no money. borrowed from my mum to settle downpayment. 1st month already, engine got problem must overhaul. borrow again. got money but just enough for normal maintenance and pay installment. then i thought can start saving money but again! need to change tyres, chain and sprockets and etc. but the good thing is with this bike, i can get a part time job that's quite flexible and give decent pay. so, initially, i owe my mum a lot. but over time, the debt has been paid, my installment is finishing soon and i have some savings from the same delivery job i've been doing. so now, can change to a better ride! :D so it all boils down to why u want a bike so eagerly. if you're just a student with no job, forget it! if you're working right with not much cash to spare, also forget it! you need to pay more to maintain a bike!

hi. i'm a 19 yr old p plate looking for any type of 2B bike. but isit possible that 300 settles insurance road tax n coe all?

My advise is try not to.

$300 is just too low.

I think you can comfortably own a bike if you can:

1. able to pay 20% of the cost price as the downpayment

2. able to set aside $60 amonth for your yearly insurance and road tax. road tax is $80 a year. but insurance for age 19, last heard was $600 a year.

3. if your installment is is closing to $200 amonth for 3 years. make sure u can set aside $500 aside monthly comfortabily. $200 installment, $100+ petrol. $70 for season parking, cash card and daily parking coupon. $30 plus for maintenance and $100 spare incase of anything. Any unused amount of this $500 is to put into a "bike account"ready for any unforseen circumstances senario"

Don't be a lousy biker whereby you got $ to buy bike,

no $ to buy parking coupons,

no $ to buy petrol and end stealing petrol.

no $ to buy helmet and steal people helmet

no $ to change broken parts and end up stealing parts from other bike

no $ to service bike, end up the bike died and need a expensive overhaul.

no $ to pay installment and end up kanna kanna tow away

hi. i'm a 19 yr old p plate looking for any type of 2B bike. but isit possible that 300 settles insurance road tax n coe all?

dear venomikko.

are you really desperate for a bike when you pass a license?

with 300sgd you cannot buy a bike with everything in.

you need to set a sums of $ for

repair

replacement of wear and tear

maintance

petrol

erp

season parking

outside parking

summon

unwanted accident

really very cheap bike will cost you lots and lots of $ to repair.

engine is the most important, out look okok can already.

your age and new license are a killer to you.

bikes with coe ending around 2009-2011 are the following

3rd party insurance

honda nsr sp 150-insurance for ntuc is 2500k from ntuc(heard it when my friend renew his car insurance)

rxz-can get the coe ending around 2010-2011(abt 800-1500)insurance also quite ex for new rider

rxk-800 can find at shop.cheaper find in forum.insurance abt 600+

honda cg-800-1000.good condition .forum got ppl selling.insurance abt 600+

a lot of budget riders out there i seen a lot already

here are the common problems they face

tire totally no thread!

no $ change still can tahan

if lucky kanna fine by TP(70sgd if i not wrong)

if unlucky self skidded, met accident, insurance company see your bike tire no thread.cannot claim.AWARDED demerit points.$$$

this does not apply to class 2B riders only, seen many class 2 rider also like that and try to smoke me by tell me race tire.almost fainted.

servicing of EO/plug

how can a bike work well with EO used for 2yrs.

a bottle of cheap EO cost less than 8sgd only

brakes

brake pad use until totally wear out until the disc brake become a keropok

what i can advise you is

save up for a year, with more $ you can choose a better bike condition rather than headache for next mth installment and start playing hide and seek with finance company.

you are 19 this year and i think soon you will be enlisted into NS.

so maybe you can use the NS allowance to pay for a bike you can afford.

i also pass my license on 19yrs old and i manage to buy a yamaha LC using all my saving(700sgd exclude insurance 100++)

lucky for me i was working part time and i barely able to afford the bike.still dunno why i am able to change bike after 2 mth riding into a tzr....

until i went to ns,i use the allowance to buy myself a gsx400 paying a installment of 99/m for a yr.(with trade in)

and b4 i ord i purchase a brand new honda phamton TA200 with trade in

reason to buy a new bike is

2A bike everything is expensive

tire is almost finish, time to service, replacement of many item

for all the $ spent+trade in the bike=DP for new bike.

always ask along a experience rider to follow you to view a bike.:thumb:

good luck :angel::angel:

I won't say no money don't ride.

Riding is an economical way of having transport and fun.

Best is to save cash. Don't rush in buying a bike. I'm a new rider too. It took me 2mths to buy a bike because I was so confused of what bike to buy & to save some cash.

For the cash, if you really wanna ride then you can borrow money from relatives.

Make sure you pay them back. Just like me!

Borrowed from my dad. So I paid full cash for my bike and I pay a fixed monthly payment without any interest.

Just remember don't rush. Always go to shop and look around with someone experience.

that the way to go.

but for me i rather loan with the shop than relatives or family members

reason if anything unlucky happens, the 1 who loan you the $ sure get a big scolding from your parents.

hmmm its ok i guess...it depend on the shop whether they can take that...usually for a downpayment that low...the remaining will be calculated inside the installment...so ya...you can actually down as low as $300...depending on shop...
