Hi people, just pass my TP a few weeks ago and new to the forum.

I got a second hand phantom(TA200) a few days ago from a bike shop.

The bike technician told me not to ride too fast (>80km/hr) first as the engine had just been fix. But i also heard from people that i should ride faster instead to see if there is any problem with the bike at at higher speed and clarify with bike shop before my warranty end. What are your opinion on this?

Next i got a problem, i was riding at about 90+km/hr (5th gear iirc) and when i close the throttle, my bike had some problem. It jerk and i think skid. Something like when you drop to low gear with high speed. But i am sure i did not kick down my gear nor did i clutch in. Immediately after this i throttle a bit more and slowly close back my throttle. Then the same thing happen again (but with lesser force) the bike jerk and skid. Anyone know what causes it to happen?

After the whole incident, i ride to the carpark and park my bike.(Neutral gear, off engine) When i try to start my bike about 10 min later, i cannot start. All i can hear when i pressed the starter switch was "tiak tiak tiak". What happen?

Hope there is someone that can help me. Thanks.

Edit

After checking out the forums for a while, i think one the the possible reason that i cannot start my bike is because of faulty battery?

i can push start my bike, signal light not working when i on my headlight. If the reason is really due to a faulty battery, how come it died so fast? I only ride it for like 2-3 days. What could be the possibility that i had spoil my battery in a few day? Is it due to any of my bad riding habit?

How do i maintain my battery and how much will it cost to replace one? Any bike shop to recommend?

I still have not figure out the reason behind the jerking when i close throttle at high speed.... :(

when u close throttle..did the engine died?? if it did your bike is slowing down very fast..engine brake..very fast. and of course u feel jerking for an instant, skidding too,if the engine brake is super fast..

and then engine will roar to live again,.i would suggest u take a look and clean or replace your air filter/spark plug if neccesary.. tune the carb (best is to go back to shop ask for a service on the carb....)

you may have a faulty battery...some lousy/dying battery after charging immediately u can start engine for a day or 2..jialat one kept overnight it drains off..u cant do it the next day..yeah bad battery is the likely fault.

Tycoon, welcome! :cheer:

well... there is a good chance that battery is simply flat... since you just bought it off a shop...

as for the engine... it would be difficult for us to understand what is its condition... I would suggest that you take your phantom to planet motor, at block 3007 ubi road 1 #01-430 and let the boss ah chong to test ride your bike... he should be able to diagnose the problems that you bike has...

hopefully your phantom would be getting better soon!

Thanks for the input, erm... what is the carbon starter for anyway?

Not sure if is jerking. Is like when you kick to low gear while traveling at high speed that kind of feeling. Then got a skid a bit after that.

The engine did not died but got funny sound. I think you might be right. It is due to the engine brake. I flip through my motorcycle handbook and found out the way i change gear is wrong. i was doing close throttle then clutch in instead of close throttle and clutch in at the same time. I think that explain why i experience the strong engine brake and skid and i would not have notice it if i am riding at low speed because the engine brake will be weaker.

Carb = carbon starter? How do i tune it?

You mean the shop gave me a flat battery or faulty/lousy battery? How do i check the condition of the battery and maintain it?

I definitely will check out planet motor sometime, a lot of people in the forum had been talking about this shop. Thanks!

carb is short for carburetta..the device for mixing air and petrol..need pro to tune..

carbon thingy is a piece of carbon found in the starter motor..need to replace if worn..

if you press the electric starter, it have some sound but the engine can't start... it might be flat... to charge the battery, simply riding around... best is to ride for an hour...

I am still puzzled why i will have such great engine brake(big enough for me to skid) when i close throttle at 90+km/hr. Isn't it the right way to gear down? Close throttle, gently brake then gear down?

wht i do is, gradual closing of throttle balanced with gradual disengaging th gear, t get free wheeling.. thn apply break..

this is not very advisable thou..

one thing i wld advice is, never close your throttle too fast.

wht you might want t try, close gradually, slowly..

thn apply break till 2nd arrow on th ground (lets say you'r stopping at a regular traffic light) thn clutch in nd drop gear.

kick, down down down (gear 3) speed reduced to 30 nd below thn drop 3 more times, down down down, you'r in gear 1, good t stop.

tht's wht i do usually. (:

no harm trying dude.

clean the entire area, then ride for a while. observe if any eo is leaking out... if yes, note where it is coming from

I think I know why... is your idling speed very very low...? if it is, tune it a little higher and try riding again...?
